Anyway I'm playing as Australia keeping myself out of the fighting until I'm well and truly built up, having a grand old time.

My Machiavellian scheme works and in mid 1942 the Italian peninsula is open to invasion and 33 Australian infantry divisions pour ashore whilst my naval bombers do what they do best, Naples is taken, then Rome then Milan, down south my armies slaughter whats left of the Italian defenders in Syracuse.

Great you would say!, and it was, I puppeted Italy patting myself on the back all the while for being such a smart fellow, only to have my celebrations and kudos interrupted by the announcement that Italy MY puppet damnit!, has just joined the Axis again.

How can this be!, I ask myself, I OWN their pasta eating arses, they can't do this!

Woe is me:(

Oh, on another point totally unrelated to the above but possibly buglike whilst not deserving of its own thread....

Is Nationalist China supposed to have a General Falkenhausen a German guy as one of their Generals?, I had great fun using him to kick Japanese arse, but there was a nagging sense that I was taking advantage of a game fault?

No bug ... von Falkenhausen was German liasion to Chiang Kai-Chek. His job was to train and advise the Chinese army but, as with all advisors everywhere it seems, he ended up doing just a little more commanding than was necessarily included in his instructions. :)

btw.... 33 Australian Divisions???????? Where the hell did you find that many Australians, draft the flippin' Roo's? (sorry, pet peeve of mine is nations raising more troops than the total military age male population of the country, and 33 is more than triple the number of divisions Australia raised during the war.)

In early 1942 when MacArthur arrived here Australia had 600,000 militia in training not including forces already in the regular armed forces, in WWI even earlier and with a smaller population to draw from we sent 400,000 or so volunteer troops overseas I believe.

HOI is about altering history and Australia raising over 40 divisions is entirely appropriate:D

But what about the Italy joining the Axis thing whilst being my puppet?, has this happened to anyone else here, its a pretty serious problem. I looked once again for the first few pages here and couldn't find a thread on it. So sorry if its already been mentioned but if it hasn't its something that would certainly have to be fixed for any new patch. Just thought I'd pass on the info.

And thanks for the heads up on Falkenhausen.:)

Damn sorry mate I'll try to find out but I kind of quit the game in digust and with much swearing at that point, and didn't take note of the actual date, I just assumed it was a generalised problem. I'll take more notice next time, and I'll try to find out for you.

Perhaps you might want to check the AI events for the Axis minors - the ones that put them in the axis (if they aren't already there and if Germany is AI controlled). It seems they fire even if ITA, BUL, ROM or HUN are members of another alliance.

Perhaps adding additional triggers will solve this problem. Check event #s 10020, 10028, 2130, and 2131.
