We've got all kinds of environments, so how about some weather to go with them? Yeah, tundra is great to fight in because of all that great cold air, but what if there's a really heavy snow screwing with your LoS distance? Everyone loves the tropics, but what about when there's a monsoon with heavy winds affecting your stability?

I don't want weather affects on every single mission, but it would be cool to see it from time to time. Assuming Darius can take 30 seconds to check the weather before I deploy.

You could tend to have positive / negatives pairs.
Rain increases heat dissipation, but lowers visual range.
Wind increases stability damage, but lowers accuracy.
A storm is both of the above together.
I quite like the idea of having the state possible to change each turn as well.

Rain could be nice. Reduces heat generation on mechs and increases cooling but also reduces accuracy on all weapons and reduces laser damage by 5%

EDIT COMPLEX IDEAS

Rain
biomes: anything not martian or moon.
pros
-10 heat per turn
-10% heat generation per weapon
cons
-25% visible range
-10% weapon accuracy

heavy rain
biomes: same as rain
pros
-20 heat per turn
-50% heat generation
cons
-50% visible range
-25% weapon accuracy

Thunder storm
biomes: same as rain
pros
+15 PPC damage
-10 heat per turn
cons
lightning: the heavier the mech the more likely it is to be hit by a 15 damage lightning bolt each turn
-25% visible range

Heavy winds
biomes: tundra, jungle, moon
pros
+jump jets get double efficiency
+stability damage doubled
cons
-stability damage doubled
-autocannon and missile accuracy reduced

Flooding
biome: Jungle only
pros
+water twice as effecitve
+more water on the map (unique maps.)
cons
-reduces movement speed of all mechs in water
-mechs that end turn in water will take 1 bar stability damage if not braced.

Rain and heavy rain should impact laser weapon effective ranges too. A double edged sword of having better cooling, but needing to get closer to make use of it.

YEah but I didn't want to give them to many pros and cons.

I was thinking more towards complementary positives and negatives. Better cooling, but shorter laser range, winds effect ballistics, but also stability so any hits are harder.

Perhaps lightenting strikes should affect sensors as a PPC does? Mechs would be grounded pretty well by their big metal feet.

It's a fine suggestion. Heavy storms; blizzards or torrential rain may have modifiers to movement, detection , targeting and heat dispersal.

Also, fog or smoke. I think the main fhing is can the game engine render this efficiently, knowing that game is already memory pig.

The game already has a bunch of atmospheric effects rendered by the graphics (night, rain, sandstorm all come to mind immediately as in there), the only thing they are missing is an actual effect on gameplay mechanics.

Weather, but not truly detrimental weather, where mech and vehicle combat is concerned. It snows but no white-outs. It rains but doesn't pour.
