Under EVA, the Transition to the Peace Act passes (and will shortly be added to the OP.)

I'll leave the poll for DOPEA open for another a day or two, but with only one "no" vote, it'll get passed too, I'm sure.

DOPEA
Aye: 7
Nay: 1

Dadarian, it is never too late to join! Actually, it'd be awesome if we got 100 separate players and filled the entire Senate! (Well, technically 96 at this point).

Speaking of voting, why not vote for the ACAs while you wait? Scientists* have confirmed that voting for your favorite AARs lengthens your life span by 5000%!

*May not include actual scientists.

Born: 1922 (age 23)
Party: Republican

-- Foreign policy plans
Continue the fight against the Axis, install democracy and liberate the oppressed peoples of Europe!

-- Budgets for IC, including total distribution and which of the four gets what for construction purposes.
To focus on the Army, as it is the ground troops that fight and die on the newly liberated soil. Airforce comes 2nd and Infrastructure 3rd. Navy is last.

-- Budgets for leadership, including total distribution and which of the four gets which techs.
Focus on technology, America must be the most advanced country on Earth!

-- Declaring war/signing peace treaties
Well, we are already at war with Axis. But we cannot accept anything less then total surrender from the Axis powers.

-- Which faction we align ourselves to, if any
Allies, said and done.

-- If one of the Big Four needs to be fired/replaced
The best and most experianced person should replace those that are (replaced/fired), however all fascists and Communists should be removed immediately if entered into the position due to their being a danger to the freedoms of the people of the United States of America.

-- Input on our general deployments overseas
Focus on Europe, the Japanese can starve under a noose of our ships and submarines.

-- All decisions and law changes
Should go through the senate, as due to a democratic system of government.

-- Nukes!
Absolutely, we must use every means necessary to defeat the fascist menace

Senator Écossais,

There must be a flaw in your résumé. The great State of Nevada has recently voted for two Democrat Senators, and we are already represented in our Senate!
I am assuming this was a honest mistake, so please edit your résumé as to show the state you are really representing.

Welcome to the Senate;

He has to be at least 30 per the US Constitution (although it's not that important for game purposes. :))

((Good catch on the Nevada thing too; I'd missed updating the state list when I added you, Gen. Marshall. :eek:o))

Senator Fischer,

Welcome to the Senate. It seems that you are here to represent the North Dakotan Communists. I myself am making no secret of my despising of Communism, and we will surely have some heated debates. But of course, it is your good right to state your opinion. The Nonpartisan League will be more happy to welcome you to the Senate, so I will leave that to them for now.

I will officially congratulate senator Écossais as well now. With the administrative issues sorted out, we're ready to legislate and supervise.

Regards;

Since this debate has pretty much been settled, I'll go ahead and sign DOPEA into law as well. Tom, before you send your plans to me, please provide them to the Senate.

Welcome to the AAR, Senators!

Congratulations and thanks to all Senators - you have ensured that democracy will prevail, by voting the DOPE Act into law ((Oh, and Avindian - I'm Dutch. "DOPE" might have been on purpose ;))). According to the schedule, we should have recieved the plans by now, though. When will we recieve them?

Atlantic Theater Orders, April 1943

Senators,

I apologize for my tardiness in sending these plans; the original mail steamer we employed for transmitting these materials was attacked during its trans-Atlantic crossing, necessitating a brief delay while an undamaged steamer was aggressively requisitioned. Enclosed is one (1) reproducible summary of the Atlantic Theater's orders for the month of April; please review them and comment at your discretion. Should you require more specific details as to the intent of any particular operation, Lt. Simmons (the attache who delivered this message) has been briefed on all our planned offensive, and should be able to answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

General Douglas A. MacArthur,
Commander-in-Chief, Atlantic Theater

P.S. Please forgive any potential sullenness on the part of Lt. Simmons; he was sleeping during the German torpedo attack, and has expressed some dissatisfaction that he "was given clearance for these [redacted] orders, but wouldn't have been cleared to know how [he]'d died if we'd sunk."

Atlantic Theater Orders, April 1943

Western European Operational Zone

Norwegian OA: We plan to wrap up our operations in Norway this month. Once the remaining German forces in Storslett surrender, the 7th U.S. Army Corps will be transported to France and join Third Army in operations there.

French OA: Our first priority this month is securing the Brest-Nantes-Cherbourg triangle, establishing a secure base of operations for our future offensives. Once General Clark captures all three of these locations, AG France will be instructed to drive for Paris at full speed.

Southern European Operational Zone

Austrian OA: Fourth Army's relentless attacks here have worn down the German defensive lines in the Alps; with Italian assistance, General Patton should break through them by month's end. We will establish a line along the Danube, perhaps launching an offensive to secure the German air/radar base at Stuttgart; however, a full offensive into Germany would require the assistance of at least one other army, so we will not advance past the Danube at this time.

Yugoslavian OA: First Army should link up with AG Mediterranean within two weeks; at that time, I will direct General Marshall to secure Budapest and Pecs, with an eventual eye towards securing all of Hungary and former Czechoslovakia.

Romanian OA: General Hodges' Third Army is currently driving towards Bucharest and the crucial oilfields of Ploiesti. Once these have been secured, General Taylor's AG Mediterranean will be disbanded, and Third Army will be sent to reinforce invasions elsewhere, either in France or in Germany.

Lt. Simmons,

I approve of these plans. Even though there aren't any special operations going on, these orders should ensure our road to victory.
There is one thing I would like to know, though. How many divisions do we have in France at this time? This will be very important in the future, when the frontline we have to cover will widen. This will, of course, also affect the destination of Third Army.

Senator,

At last count, there are three corps of infantry plus the marine corps, which would be approximately 16 divisions. I will let General MacArthur give you specific numbers.

Chief of Staff Admiral Leahy

((Given the relative lack of discussion, I'm going to say that the plan is approved; Tom, send me your specific orders whenever you're ready.))

((I'd have approved in character, but I had prior commitments today. Sorry.))

((No worries. DOPEA only requires participation if folks intend to object.))

We The People: April 43 Orders

((For some curious reason, my inbox isn't working right now, so I'm posting my orders in-thread. Apologies to everyone for the delay - I've been scrambling to finish a project at work this week, and haven't had time to do much else.))

Atlantic Theater: April 1943 Orders

Unit Reassignments/Non-Combat Movements

Western European Sector

Norwegian AO: Once the last German forces in Norway are defeated, move all remaining forces in Norway to Oslo. Any unattached divisions in Norway should be attached to the 3rd U.S. Army Corps, which should be attached to Third Army and sent to the closest friendly French port available.

Combat Operations

Western European Sector

French AO: Once AG France's current objectives have been secured, assign new its objectives to Paris, Orleans, Le Havre, and Bordeaux.

Southern European Sector

Italian AO: No changes currently necessary. Once Fourth Army captures all listed objectives, switch its AI to Defensive Stance pending further deveployments in France.

Yugoslavian AO: Add Budapest and Pecs to First Army's list of objectives. If these are captured, add Bratislava and Prague to its objectives list.

Romanian AO: Remove Tirane, Skopje, and Salonica from AG Mediterranean's objective list; add Ploiesti to its objectives list. Once Romania has surrendered, add Cluj, Debrecen, and Kosice to AG Mediterranean's objectives list.

((You're forgiven, Tom. :)))

I'll update tomorrow, Friday at the latest. Losing the Forums for most of the day has set back my update schedule :(

Briefing: May 1, 1943

Ladies and gentlemen of the Senate,

Although we pay a heavy price for every inch of Nazi territory, rest assured that our boys have done their duties this month, as they do every month. We are within striking distance of key German cities such as Vienna and Munich, while our forces continue to press on Hitler's puppets in Romania and Hungary.

At the beginning of April, General Taylor, Commander of Army Group 'Mediterranean' was ordered to concentrate all of his forces on Bucharest and Ploesti, leaving his other Balkan objectives to the Italians.

General Marshall's First Army was given new orders to press on Budapest and Pecs.

Our Ambassador to Hungary also formally informed Admiral Horthy of our demands for unconditional surrender, which would include a military government until such time as the Magyar people may exercise their rights of self-determination.

On April 4th, General Geiger's Second USMC was formally made part of Army Group 'France' and ordered to assist with seizing the key ports of Cherbourg and Brest. A few days later, the final German forces in Norway surrendered, and preparations were made to extract the final American divisions from Norway and insert them into France.

Speaking of clearing out the remaining German forces in an area, April 9 marked the assault of the final German forces in Greece by 26th and 36th Infantry Division in Tripolis. A week later, all American commanders sent in their mid-month reports.

General Marshall reported capturing the key city of Pecs in Hungary, and planned to push hard on the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

In France, only Brest remained outside of American control of the original American objectives.

In Germany and Romania, commanders were too busy fighting the Germans to send in their reports; they did promise to send reports in another week or so, and that's exactly what they did. By April 19, General Clark's Army Group 'France' had captured Brest and were given new objectives, including the French capital of Paris.

As long as Vichy stays neutral, all German forces in France should be trapped or forced to return to German soil.

On April 21, General Marshall's status report showed American forces tantalizingly close to Budapest.

While General Taylor was less enthusiastic about American progress in Romania -- mostly thanks to German reinforcements using the Romanian flag -- he did point out two large pockets of German forces; in the southern pocket, an as yet unidentified Nazi general was completely surrounded.

In France, General Clark reported a brief delay while his forces gathered to punch through German lines; he has expressed wishes that the new stateside reinforcements be sent to his theater.

By early this morning, all theaters -- except for General Taylor's -- reported significant progress in seizing their objectives.

Generalissimo Stalin sent his regards as well, at least conceding that American forces were better used in France than Leningrad; he is optimistic that the Red Army will reclaim the Soviet Union's "second city" by the end of 1943.

The most exciting news came from Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek, who informed me that Manchukuo will fall before the end of May and that they will almost certainly have Japan out of the Asian mainland by the end of June.

There's only one thing we need to vote on this week, and it's something I've been muddling through for a while: should we extend updates to two months or keep them at one month? Since I'm mostly just giving you guys maps, I don't need to bother with so many screenshots for one month.

Vote either two months or one month; the poll will close Sunday at 10 PM (-6 GMT).
