((Yes, we are, sorta, back on track))

Mr. President, I'm glad to hear that you have resolved the issues of personnel in our administration. We all understand that even leaders need vacation, though in times of war there is never a good time for such.

Senator Anderson

Thank you for your support, Senator. Plans are in the process of being finalized.

President Willkie

PROPOSED OPERATIONAL PLAN: ATLANTIC THEATER
Douglas MacArthur commanding

SUMMARY:
The successful completion of the Italian Campaign requires that we press the advantage and drive a stake into the heart of the Nazi empire. In Finland, we'll complete the job and mop-up the remaining enemy forces. In Egypt, we'll consolidate our forces and attempt to liberate Greece. Germany is now entangled with the Soviet Union. We need to press the advantage while the bulk of German Army is deployed in the east. The table is set...it's DINNER TIME.

WTP.png

SPECIFIC PLAN GOING FORWARD/OPERATION DINNER TABLE: (from North to South)

FINNISH FRONT:
ATLANTIC NORTHERN COMMAND (Stillwell)
1) Cross mixing of Corps creates a confusing mess, solution: Clear all objectives and reassign divisions as follows:
2) 30th Inf division (Oslo) is detached to force garrison of Oslo (The Germans are sneaky...we don't want to lose Oslo again).
3) Detach the 29th Infantry divisions from 7th US Army Corps and attach to 3rd US Army Corps.
4) Detach the 13th Infantry division (Bergen) from the 3rd US Army Corps and then attach the 7th Army Corps.
5) Detach the 14th Infantry Division (Engan) from the 7th US Army Corps and attach to 3rd US Army Corps
6) Assign 3rd US Army Corp Defensive Objective of Narvik/Defernsive stance/Air Defensive/Naval Defensive (Operation Ice Cream).
7) Assign 7th US Army Corps following Objectives: Hamar, Driva and Lillehammer Blitzkrieg stance/Air Offensive/Naval Prepare (Operation Herring).
8) Serve well-chilled. Wine: Limoncella or a White Riesling

ITALIAN FRONT:
ATLANTIC SOUTHERN COMMAND (Devers)
1) Clear current Obectives and consolidate Atlantic Southern Command in Northern Italy as follows:
2) US Fourth Army (Patton) moves to Trieste. Once in place, assign AI objective Budapest (Operation Goulash) with Blitzkrieg stance/Naval Offensive/Air Offensive. (reference step 7 below)
3) Simulateously, US First Army (Marshall) moves to Venezia and assumes Defensive Stance focused on Venezia and Trieste.
4) Upon success of Operation Goulash, US First Army shifts to Objective Vienna (Operation Schnitzel) Blitzkrieg stance/Naval Offensive/Air Offensive.
5) Simulateously to Operation Schnitzel, US Fourth Army initiates Operation Brats: Objective Prague, Blitzkrieg stance/Naval Offensive/Air Offensive.
6) If sequence is conducted properly, should entrap significant German forces in the Alps.
7) Recommend waiting for Italian AI time to re-distribute its forces to Italian border areas to better secure flanks before initiating step 2 above.
8) Cook at 400 on the middle rack for 40 minutes until golden brown. Wine: Chianto Classico or a fruity Merlot.

EGYPTIAN FRONT:
1) Request transfer of 2nd USMC (currently in San Diego) to Taranto. Recommend creation of TRG 'Providence' comprised of following ships (currently in San Diego):
CL USS Phoenix
CL USS Boise
CL USS St Louis
CL Helena
TR Vincent Harrington
TR Oliver Hazard Perry
TR W.R. Grace
TR Alexander J. Dallas
TR Amy Lowell
TR Lew Wallace

Newly formed TRG 'Providence' rebase to Taranto with 2USMC.

2) While TRG 'Providence' is en route, consolidate US 2nd Army (currently located in Bur Sa'id), and all remaining units in Egypt moving to to El Iskandariya. This includes 4 Armor divisions and 11 AA brigades located in Barce. Create a Corps command for the Armor and attach to US 2nd Army.
3) Once 2 USMC arrives in Taranto, conduct amphibious operation on/near Athens (Operation Souvlaki)
4) Upon securing Athens, ferry US Second Army to Athens (using TRG 'Providence') and attach to a new Army Group Mediterranean. Be sure to collect 26th Inf division from Cyprus and 27th Inf vision from Malta and re-incorporate into 6th US Army Corps which should be attached to US Second Army. This also includes the 25th and 28 Inf Divisons on Egypt.
5) US Second Army should now consist of 6th US Army Corps and the new Armor Corps created from 4 Armor divs from Step 2.
6) Assign AG Mediterranean to Objective Salonika, Blitzkrieg stance/Naval Offensive/Air Offensive. You may want to detach 1 division (28th) to garrison Athens.
7) At this point, we'll need to evaluate German response and either a) hold position b) head toward Ploesti c) head into the Balkans or d) both b and c
8) Return TRG 'Providence' and 2 USMC to San Diego.
9) Consider Adding a UK objective to Tel Aviv Yafo to ensure destruction of German presence there.
10) Recommend transferring SAG Tennessee to Atlantic Northern Command (timing at your discretion...probably sooner than later)
11) Garnish with parsley and fresh mint leaves, an optional foie gras on the side. Wine: A Dry Sauvignon Blanc.

A FEW ADDITIONAL ITEMS (if you're willing to stretch the rules on exclusive AI control):
1) cycle depleted air units back to mainland USA for faster, more efficient replenishment. Specific Units needing replenishment:
3rd Fighter squadron in Trieste (weirdly attached to Atlantic Northern Command...detach).
2) Combine the 84th and 86th INT squadrons (Norfolk and New York) and redeploy to Trieste (attach to Atlantic Southern Command)
3) disband the AA brigades in Libya...there are better ways to utilize manpower and officers

Hail the Republic, respectfully and faithfully serving,

Did you make any changes to the OOB, apart from recommending disbanding the AA?

Thank you for your assistance; I'll try to play tomorrow night and update.

I've made no changes to the OOB listed in my 2nd post...it is strictly a record of the Order of Battle for all units currently existing in the Atlantic Theater. I thought it might be useful. I had to make it for myself just to get things straight in my head....I figured why not share it.

Very good; thanks for passing that along!

robw963 has already informed me he will not be able to continue as Atlantic Theater Commander, although I think his plan will last us at two months. So, we've got a vacancy once again. Same requirements apply: you must own FTM and you must be willing to put in the time.

I'll do it if you really need it although I'm not very good, haven't even finished a full game of HOI3 yet.

Thanks for volunteering! I don't want to overburden you, so let's give it a couple of days to see if anybody else is interested.

Briefing: November 1, 1942

October 1, 1942: Operations Herring, Ice Cream ((Norway)), and Ascendant ((Pacific) begin. 2nd USMC authorized for operations in the Pacific by Presidential Order. TRG 'Providence' ordered to Taranto for assistance in Operation Souvalki. ((At the end of the update, I realized that I shouldn't have sent the TRG along until I had the troops for him, so it'll have to go back to the States. Whoops.)) All 2nd Army Units ordered to converge on Alexandria.

October 2, 1942: First Army ordered to Venice in preparation for Operation Schnitzel. Slow pace of Italian operations dictates more aggressive strategy. ((The Italians never did move to cover our flank, as you'll see.))
October 5, 1942: SAG 'Colorado' sinks Japanese BB Yamashiro and CA.

October 6, 1942: SAG 'Colorado' engages and defeats Japanese fleet at Tora Island Pass.

October 7, 1942: US victory at Belluno.
October 8, 1942: US attack on Udine (18th Infantry, 1st Armored, and 82nd Airborne against 112th Infantry).
October 9, 1942: Clash between Japanese fleet and SAG 'Nevada.' US Victory at Udine, approximately 700 casualties (214 American). Beginning of US attack on Bolzano. 4th Armored and 1st Rangers attack 213th Infantry and 6th Mountain.

October 11, 1942: German probe by 36th Infantry deflected at Belluno with minimal casualties.
October 12, 1942: Minor skirmish at Tolmezzo. Both sides combined lose fewer than 200 men. TRG 'Buffalo' and SAG 'New York' begin transit of 5th Army to Wake Island for their part in Operation Ascendant.
October 13, 1942: With German seizure of Trieste, 4th Army ordered to Venezia and begin to supplement the defense. ((The Germans came at us much harder than I anticipated, and the Italians were next to no help. I'm not sure why 1st Army didn't move quicker, but this is one of the vagaries of AI control, I suppose.))

October 14, 1942: Disaster at the battle of Jalkin Flats. In the confusion, USS Nevada was lost and has yet to report it. It is presumed lost, eliminating the entirety of SAG 'Nevada.' ((I honestly don't know what happened to Nevada; a Japanese CAG probably sunk it and I just missed it.))

October 15, 1942: German attack on Belluno; 36th Infantry and 2nd Mountain against US 3rd Armored, 4th Armored, 20th Infantry, and 1st Rangers. Bloody conclusion to Battle of Bolzano.

October 16, 1942: US victory at Belluno.

October 17, 1942: Italian units retake Trieste; 4th Army ordered to defend Vienna and Trieste against further German counterattacks. US win skirmish at Villach; approximately 150 casualties on each side.
October 18, 1942: SAG 'Montana' encounters Japanese carriers near Ponape; Americans drive back German feint at Bovec. ((Tiny battle; 25 total casualties!)) Completion of destroyer division, deployed to Los Angeles.
October 19, 1942: End of battle near Ponape. German attack on Bolzano.

October 20, 1942: Official formation of CTF 'Alexandria', Admiral Hart commanding. Two additional destroyer divisions completed. Three infantry divisions engage 82nd Airbone at Bovec. 2nd Rangers attack 2nd Mountain Division at Lienz. Beginning of US invasion of Mili.

October 21, 1942: Construction begins on 4 divisions of 2 x MECH, 1 x SPART, 1 x ENG. US victory at Bolzano and Lienz.
October 22, 1942: Defeat of Japanese garrison at Mili. 9 new destroyer divisions completed and deployed to LA. Japanese cruiser Aoba caught unawares and sunk by SAG 'New York.'

October 23, 1942: Three more destroyer divisions completed and deployed to LA. 1 IC built in Cleveland, OH. US defeat at battle of Bovec. Invasion and occupation of Kwaljein by 2nd USMC. American counterattack at Bovec.

October 25, 1942: Japanese catch US transport fleet unawares in transit back to Wake Island; all transports, fortunately, empty at the time.

October 26, 1942: American attacks on Bolzano and Trieste begin.
October 27, 1942: US troops repulsed at Bolzano.
October 28, 1942: German attack on Villach begins. Three German infantry divisions engage 1st Armored.
October 29, 1942: Three Transport flotillas completed in LA. 102nd German infantry attacks 2nd Armored and 20th Infantry at Lienz, quickly repulsed. Defeat at Trieste.

October 30, 1942: Disaster at Bovec; over 1000 Americans killed for just over 800 Germans. German probe at Gorizia successful, driving out three American divisions. American defeat at Villach, almost 10% of Allied soldiers casualties. American invasion at Eniwetok. Americans begin attack at Mittersill.

October 31, 1942: Japanese garrison at Eniwetok surrenders. Japanese fleet attempts to sortie, intercepted by SAG 'New York.' Germans win minor engagements at Trento and Merano.

Operation Ascendant is nearly completed; elements of 5th Army are on the way to garrison Mili and Kwaljein. However, the German front has stalled, for now.

There has been no activity in Norway. ((I have no idea what the AI is waiting for; they have clear orders.))

General MacArthur (PvtPrivate), if you would like to make any changes to your plans (i.e., those made by robw963), please have them on my desk by Wednesday at 10 PM (-6 GMT). General Bradley, (Novatheorem) Operation Ascendant was a huge success, but I'm giving 2nd USMC back to General MacArthur to support 2nd Army per Operation Souwalki. Please have your plans for the Pacific by the same date, if possible.

Thank you, and good night.

Admiral Leahy, Chief of Staff for President Willkie

Ah, taking action against Japan now too. Let's hope this doesn't detract from Italy.

- Senator Elexis Sinclaire (R - MA)

These naval losses in the Pacific are alarming! I demand accountability!

I assure you, Senator, we have not forgotten about Europe.

Senator Gerry,

Thank you for your helpful advice. We have located evidence that German spies infiltrated our Atlantic Northern Command and were delaying orders; these agents have been found and imprisoned.

President Willkie

((Apparently, I never actually set the objectives. Very embarrassing!!!))

I'm glad to hear it, Mr. President. The Reds aren't at war with Japan as they are with Germany. Unless Stalin gets overconfident and changes that fact, forsaking Europe to the Bolsheviks would be a war crime.

- Senator Elexis Sinclaire (R - MA)

((One could argue focusing on the Pacific helped Communism spread westward....))

((You could indeed argue that.))

On to something more substantive (still waiting on plans, guys!); what do you think of the way I'm presenting updates? Anything you'd like me to add, subtract, edit? Remember: we aren't all as awesome as graphics as robw963, so keep requests modest. :)

I think robw's planes are goo.d I won't change them. College is starting and i'll be busy, so i might be late quite often, I will try me best to be timely but if I take too long feel free to replace me.

That's what I figured. Please let me know in advance if you can't make a deadline; I can either give you more time or get a replacement.

Would anybody be interested in being a Deputy Theater Commander? You'd still need FTM, but you'd really just fill in when PvtPrivate or Novatheorem can't make it.
