You'll have more time than that. We have a bit of a crisis.

I've been told by Tom, and confirmed on the forums, that the "Install Democracy" war goal is bugged and does not work. Therefore, if Italy surrenders under it, nothing will happen. We have three options:

1. Add the Puppet War Goal.
2. Add the Conquest (Annex?) War Goal.
3. I fire the successful coup event (which one is that, by the way?) or edit the save to make Italy a Democracy and possibly join the Allies.

Please vote. The voting deadline is Friday at 10:00 PM (-6 GMT). Indicate Puppet, Conquest, or Coup. If somebody knows exactly which event I should fire to trigger the coup, please let me know. I can't quite figure it out from the code.
 
I say we Puppet the Italians. At least their government shall become a democracy like ours.

((I never try to use this but, is there an option in HoI3 to free the puppet? If yes, I suggest to do puppet(and this will automatically install democracy) and then free them from our puppet mastery.))

That's not a bad idea; that would solve the problem nicely. What does everybody else think?
 
I vote that we conquer the Italians, and hold their territory until the cessation of hostilities by their allies. These brutes seem to only respond to force, so showing them an ample amount may discourage any further hostilities. We need to think as they do to end this as quickly as possible and get the boys home!

PacCom Confirmation Hearing \ Operation Ascendant

Until this classification is altered by the President of the United States or the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the contents of this briefing are classified Top Secret. Under the Espionage Act of 1917, the transmission of this briefing in any format to unauthorized parties constitutes an act of treason, and will be prosecuted accordingly.

Pacific Command Briefing

Greetings, Congress. I am here to present to you my vision for Pacific Command, hereafter referred to as 'PacCom', and to relieve duties for our previous commander. As part of my confirmation hearing, I have outlined my plans for leading our great nation's resources through this engagement with the utmost care. I hope to prove to the world that our Armed Forces are ready and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure peace in our world.

Mission Focus

PacCom’s new focus going forward will be to increase the United States’ battle readiness for any new threats, both from Japan and any of our nominal allies in the future. Our show of strength will render it impossible for enemy forces to operate in the Pacific without our knowledge and approval, whether tacit or explicit. To do so, we must focus on establishing operational advantages from a material and territory standpoint, as to starve our enemies in the region into submission.

Operation Ascendant

Objective: To further protect US/Australia shipping lanes and establish bases within striking distance of the Japanese mainland in order to deter further commitment of resources in the Pacific through an excessive force policy. We will continue to grow the armament advantage of the United States and its allies in the region by allowing our allies the ability to operate freely in the region and support their own interests in the Indian Ocean.

Ascendant’s initial engagements will starve out the island chain near Bikini by aggressively positioning and patrolling for enemy supply fleets in the Mariana basic, in order to reduce ground troop effectiveness to zero. As the operation is completed, aerial resources will be used to exert further influence on the remaining islands and remove the remaining troops with minimal loss of equipment and manpower. SSQ resources may be requested should the fleets be unable to cut off shipping in the area after the fall of Eniwetok.

Operational Hour 0 – TRG ‘Bullock’ carries USMC 1st and 2nd Corps to theatre and stations in the Wake Islands / SAG ‘New York’ supports (move action to same destination)
Operational Hour 24 – CTF ‘Lexington’ establishes zone of control in Sylvania Seamount in patrol action
Operational Hour 30 – TRG ‘Bullock’ carries US Army Fifth Army to theatre and stations in Midway and Johnson Island / SAG ‘New York’ supports (move action to same destination)
Operational Hour 36 – CTF ‘Yorktown’ establishes zone of control in Majuro Western Approach in patrol action
Operational Hour 40 – SAG ‘Montana’ intercepts convoys in and near the Southern Mariana Basin
Operational Hour 45 – SAG ‘Nevada’ patrols Western Tankei Bridge / SAG ‘Colorado’ intercepts convoys in and near the Northern Mariana Basin
Operational Hour 50 – CTF ‘Yorktown’ moves to expand the control zone set by SAG ‘Montana’ by crossing to the Central Mariana Trench on patrol
Operational Hour 50 - CTF 'Lexington' moves to expand control zone by moving to Minto Reef area on patrol
Operational Hour 65 – USMC 1st Corps lands in Mili / SAG ‘New York’ supports (move action to same destination)
Operational Hour 80 – USMC 2nd Corps lands in Kwajalein /SAG ‘New York’ supports(move action to same destination)
Operational Hour 176 – USMC 2nd Corps remains in theatre to support USMC 1st Corps in fight for Eniwetok.
Operational Hour 196 – USMC 1st Corps is replaced on the ground by members of Fifth Army / SAG ‘New York’ screens TRG ‘Bullock’ (patrol action – Western Tankei Bridge)
Operational Hour 268 – USMC 1st Corps proceeds to Eniwetok / SAG ‘New York’ moves to Oroluk Pass and begins patrol.
Operational Hour 330 – USMC 2nd Corps replaced on the ground by members of Fifth Army / TRG ‘Bullock’ removes USMC 1st and 2nd from theatre.
Operational Hour 500 – Operation Over, resources return to home bases.

I hope the plan outline presented before you will rest your concerns that I am ill-prepared for this change of command. The bold, decisive strikes that we will present to our enemies will force a quick concession to hostilities in the Pacific. I hope that you will stand with me in these dark times.

Since voting has died down, I'll go ahead and puppet Italy, then edit the save. I'm also going to approve Greek HOI3 as AtlCom and Novatheorem as PacCom. Greek HOI3, as I said before, don't worry about plans until the next update.

Speaking of that, I'll play either tonight or tomorrow and then have the update tomorrow or Sunday.

Briefing: October 1, 1942​

Ladies and gentlemen of Congress,

I have the distinct pleasure of reporting that the Italian government has, as of September 7, surrendered to American forces in Rome. The new government has pledged itself to the Allied cause after a 30 day occupation.

Italian resistance all but crumbled after the victorious battles of Fabriano and Fano.

A counterattack on American forces was quickly repulsed on September 6; mere hours later, Italy surrendered.

I do hope you'll forgive the brevity of this report. With Pacific forces awaiting the delivery of new destroyer squadrons, not much has happened elsewhere in the world. Attached to this briefing is the usual data.

Technologies acquired: Battlefield Concentration Doctrine 3, CAS Pilot Training 5, Rocket Engine, Fighter Ground Control 5, Mechanized Infantry, Bomber Targeting Focus 5, Bridging Equipment 1
Convoys sunk (transport/escort): 2/2 (Persian), 2/0 (Japanese)
Units built: 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th Infantry Divisions (returned by UK); 10 x CL (deployed to LA), 1 x STRAT (deployed to Crown Point, VT)
New construction begun: 6 Infantry Division (3 x INF)

Greek HOI3, I await your plans for the Atlantic Theater for October.

Novatheorem, I left Bradley in charge of Pacific Command, although Geiger is the Commander of 2nd USMC. I also need the AI commands for the Pacific Theater once the Marines land. You may even wish to revise your plans given the Chinese counterattack.

Please have all plans, revised or not, to me by Wednesday at 10 PM (-6 GMT). Tom, if you don't mind, send along your last couple of plans to Greek HOI3 and Novatheorem so they have a template; if you don't have them, I have one in my inbox.
