The Navy in the Pacific
is currently quite prolific
If the IJN is bloodied
we should not be too worried
Because the current USN
Will beat them back again

The Second Army of brave men
Long to see their families again
We should focus on the Atlantic plan
As Germany needs to be overrun
Then focus on the Japanese
As we can give the noose a tighter squeeze.

- Senator Charles Beckendorf, D-MA

((The poem might seem very glorified but I tried to make it rhyme as good as possible :D
In short I think that the current Pacific fleet is enough to keep the IJN at bay, and therefore we do not need a huge expansion of the navy. We should focus on taking out Germany first, and thereby eliminating a bigger threat first, and then use the men from Europe in the Pacific.

Oh, and your plan for writing an AAR in haiku style sounds interesting :) I would definitely follow! And if it is too hard, you could do normal poems ;)))

(I thought I replied in the normal color but it came out blue for some reason. At any rate, your assumption is correct.Frederic Sackett R-KY)

Meanwhile in Louisville Sen. Sackett addresses a crowd on his way to Washington
People of Kentucky,
It is with great trepidation that I accept the governor's appointment. I am wholly concerned with the state of our armed forces and our great government. I plan to go to Washington and make sure we secure a world safe from the tyranny of Communism as surely as we curtail the warings of Hitler and Hirohito. This is no easy task, my friends, but we must endeavor to leave the world a safer place. This is our place, to be the guardian of liberty in world oppressed by hate. I go from here to the capital where I plan to support the war in the Atlantic theater until such time as a friendly government exists in Berlin. I, like many of you, am a German-American and we must make sure that this government can distinguish between the dictates of a madman and the soul of a people. We must strive for a properous ally in Germany, not a devastated hope-forgotten shamble that fostered a madman like Hitler to power. We must not repeat the mistakes of 1919 when the peace comes and I will make sure that such a thing does not come to pass. Thank you all and God be with our boys and God bless America.

I Vote for the Pacific Plan , As to send more american men to die on foreign soil that never provoked our attack would be outlandish, especially seeing as we are already winning on that front, soon enough Heir Hitler will sue for peace and we can restore Pre 1939 Borders, then we can turn our eye to our true enemy, Japan, whom declared war on us, not the other way around.

Senator Ryan Marshall
State: Nevada
Party: Democrat
DOB: Born in 1899

In 1918, I joined the U.S. Army as a tank commander. I crushed the Kaiser's forces during the 100-days Offensive, until the Germans finally surrendered. After serving another thirteen years in the Army, I began a career in politics. Now, the people of Nevada have elected me as their lawful representative. We, the People, will make sure this war will be decided in our favor. The United States have the biggest economy in the world, and we will show the world what we are capable of!

One more thing though - The Soviets betrayed us in the Great War, and they will betray us again if they have the chance. I say we let Hitler wipe Communism off the map, before we handle him accordingly.

Foreign policy: Let the Axis finish the Reds - then bring them all democracy.
Industrial policy: In times of war, everyone should contribute to the armed forces.
War goals: Capture Berlin and Moscow.
Nuclear weapons: Our tanks will crush the enemy - We won't need a nuclear bomb!

Mr. President,

Senator Marshall is at your service.

Senators,

While Hitlers Wehrmacht conquers Europe, becoming an ever stronger power, some of you seem to be worried about the Japanese. The truth, my colleagues, is that the Japanese will never be able to threaten our Pacific coast. They are already fighting oil shortages as well as the mighty U.S. Navy. We need to focus on Europe - the Atlantic Plan is the right plan.

I vote for the Atlantic Plan. Unlike in the Pacific, we have to worry about the demon of Communism in Europe. The last thing we need is a Red Berlin to act as a virus of Communism all over Europe.

- Senator Elexis Sinclaire (R - MA)

(( OOC: Crap, I voted too early. Sorry Avindian, totally misread your post in a hurry! xD ))

"Japan remains the most direct threat against the American people, Hitler might battle in Europe but only Japan has the threat potential to strike American soil! We must defeat her decisively before we turn to Europe, and thus I reiterate my support for the Pacific Plan. Those too eager to move into Europe against Hitler should also remember that the longer he can weaken the Soviet giant, the better free peoples will be."

~Senator Sarah Quentin O'Hanahan, D-OR

(( OOC: Of course on a gameplay related note, the Atlantic Plan is undoubtedly 100% better. Japan is looking like a spent force and all the Pacific really needs to guarantee it is some backup cruisers. 11 CVs is going to wreak havoc in the South Pacific... All that said, I'd be foolish to not have my corrupt senator vote for the Navy backing her up! ))

Well said, senator Sinclaire! The Reds are a much bigger threat to us than the Japanese, and if we don't act, we might soon be living in a Soviet America...

I concur with you my esteemed colleagues! We must make this the issue at hand! The Socialists are the real enemy. The Imperial ambition of Japan can be easily curtailed after a line is drawn in the sand to the Soviets.

Countrymen and esteemed Colleagues,

It has also come to my attention that some member of the last congress as well as our past president supported some measures that are undoubtedly unconstitutional. I ask for a senator to join with me in end the unlawful regulation of speech.
(This has to do with changing from censored press to free press because we are the United States)
Another matter that I plan to address is laid out in a Bill I have drafted called the Pacific Control Act of 1943 as follows:

1. The United States hereby lays claim to all extra-national colonies of the Japanese Empire.
2. The United States considers itself to be in a state of colonial war with the Japanese Empire and in no way seeks the destruction of the Japanese People
3.The Republic of China is the unequivocal ally of the United States and we intend to form a lasting bond.
a. The Republic of China will be guaranteed by the United States
b. The Republic of China will be granted access to special trade agreements to strengthen her armed forces as well as American Military Advisors.
c. The Republic of China will be recognized by the United States Government as the sole China for diplomatic purposes and all relations with any other pretender shall be severed.
4. The President is empowered to enforce all of the above provisions.

I will accept any co-sponsor who wishes to come forward.

I will Co-Sponsor Senator Sacketts bill on several conditions
1. The US Armys Conscription law is lowered to Three Year Draft, As we can all agree that all men being required to serve in the armed forces is the first step to Totalitarianism, and we already have plenty of young men volunteering.
2. The Republic of China is given Taiwan
3. Korea, and French Indo-China are given their freedom and Democracy is installed
Signed, Senator Steven Hyde, Wisconsin

As a heads up, any new bills will be voted upon after this coming update; I'm waiting from confirmation from Novatheorem and then I'll update.

With a 3:1 advantage, I will close voting on the budget question: we will favor the Atlantic Plan.

I am most willing to rescind the conscription law in favor of a Three-year draft. I suggest we merge this and the removing of unconstitutional government censorship.
Senator Hyde, I therefore ask you to support the American Wartime Freedoms Act of 1943

1. Any laws censoring the press will be deemed unconstitutional and removed with the exception of bans on sedition and advocacy of unlawful acts. (See Schenck v. United States 1919, Gitlow v New York 1925)
2. The Selective Service Act of 1941 will be amended to provide for a 3 year draft.

As to the Pacific Control Act. I will agree to your second point and agree to add
3. d. The United States recognizes the claim of the Republic of China on the Island of Formosa.

I disagree with your point 3 but I hope you will accept my compromise.

Respectfully,
Senator F. M. Sackett

Thank you for your quick response Senator Sackett, I am of course happy to Co-Sponsor the American Wartime Freedom Act, and do look forward to seeing the final draft.

With Regards to the Pacific Control Act, unfortunately I cannot, in good faith, support an act that in it's current wording would see large parts of Continental East Asia under American Control. I would however, be fine Co-Sponsoring a version of this bill where Korea is given to The Republic of China and Indo-China Returned to France once they have been liberated from German Occupation.

Signed,
Senator Steven Hyde, Wisconsin

I will oppose the American Wartime Freedom Act
We are at war and sacrifices must be made in order to secure freedom in the long term. Only when we have absolute victory over the Fascist in Europe and Imperial Japan can we roll back these measures.

As for the Pacific Control act I support independence Korea and Indochina. Korea has been under the jacketboot of Imperial Japan. In the name of self determination they must be independent. The same goes for Indo-China, I have a bad feeling in my gut that this could come back and haunt us if we let France hold on to her colonies.

Back to the topic of military budget I am glad that the Atlantic Plan was chosen. We must strike when the iron is hot and defeat Hitler, not to mention is would be very wise to keep high troops counts in Europe to deter any aggression by the Bolshevik state.

Sincerely Senator Joseph A Burns
Chief of Army and Air Corps

How dare you side with a communist, who put him in the congress? Beware Communists have a reputation of being sneaky and corrupt. Men like Senator Hyde will take us 1 step further to defeat. Remember this with out our deployments overseas the Allies and democracy would be lost. The Germans also deliberately aided Japan on an attack on Pearl harbor. We should not let people like Senator Hyde lose the war against tyranny. I vote for the Atlantic plan and No to The American Wartime Freedom act. I urge all senators to not let the Communist blind your thoughts. I would Co-sponsor a plan that would not be influenced by Communists like you said "The Socialists are the Real Enemy" we should not let them seek power from the result of this war.

This is a very interesting debate; however, two points: the Pacific/Atlantic debate is over, and second, until I see a finished version of the bill, we can't vote.

I'm going to go ahead and play/update now, so we can discuss this in a couple of hours or so.
