I would follow the original plan to keep 1st army in defense while 4th army moves towards Budapest as in operation Goulash. The new question is what to do with 2nd army. I would say take the southern flank of Hungry to speed up operation Goulash. Then while 1st and 4th armies and commence operations Scniznel and Brats 2nd army moves east towards Bucharest or fights alongside 4th army in operation Brats. We'll see what looks like the most attractive option at the end of operation Goulash.

A landing on North Western Europe would be welcomed.

BREAKING: Sen. McCarthy to be released from hospital; blames Communists for illness

AUSTIN, TEXAS (AP): Senator Stephen McCarthy (D-TX) was released from St. David's Hospital this evening, where he has spent the last two months undergoing treatment for an unspecified ailment in his liver. When questioned by reporters, Senator McCarthy refused to disclose the nature of his illness, stating only that "no matter how devious their methods, the Communists will not be able to stop me from doing my duty to my constituents, to America, and to the freedom-loving people of the world."

A representative of the Communist Party USA, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, dismissed McCarthy's allegations as "baseless," since "that fascist sympathizing [expletive removed] didn't need any help wrecking his liver anyway."

Hmmm, might I suggest Churchill to make an amphibious assault? An attack on the Benelux or Northern France would be ideal. This way, Hitler would have to defend himself on yet another flank, and also speed up the liberation of our French friends.

I'm inclined to agree with my esteemed colleague from Massachusetts, Senator Sinclaire, and would support encouraging the British make a landing in Benelux to contribute to the war effort. Keeping Calm and Carrying On isn't cutting the mustard here...it's time they got off their rears.

As for the mission of the 2nd Army, I have enough hesitation about German/AXIS troop deployment in Romania to vote for a thrust into the Balkans. This will help to solidify the new position in Albania. However, I would look for any serendipidous opportunities to thrust eastwards (using any available armor) towards Bucharest/Ploesti as a means of denying Germany of their oil supply. Acting boldly (if perhaps a bit recklessly) might bring considerable rewards.

I must object, however, to Atlantic Southern Command's obstinate insistence of attempting to cross the Alps against stiff German resistance rather than the hook maneouver originally proposed by General MacArthur last year. I weep for the unnecessary losses this bullheadedness has created. I also have given up hope the Atlantic Northern Command has any measure of competent leadership. Mercifully, we're beginning to see some signs of success against the Japanese Navy in the Pacific. Apparently, at least, those prayers were heard.

Though a strike on the Ploiesti oilfields does have significant merit, I recommend that we send 2nd Army north, to liberate Czechoslovakia and Poland from German tyranny. You will all recall the Czechs and Poles both attempted (unsuccessfully) to stop the Germans, whereas the Hungarians and Romanians have both collaborated with the Axis throughout the war; given this clear difference in loyalty, the moral choice between them seems obvious. Furthermore, by marching northward, we can capture Germany's critical industrial and manpower resources, thereby bringing the war to a swift and decisive conclusion.

I concur with my colleagues' suggestion that the British should invade Northwest Europe; given the obvious stresses of Germany's current two-front deployment, opening a third front would likely overextend the Wehrmacht to breaking point.

Before I make a final decision could someone please give me a number on the amount of divisions along the Italian and Balkan front?

I decided to speak with the Director of the CIA about your request; I discovered that Mr. Donovan had no spies in Germany or Japan! Outraged, I fired him and replaced him with an army specialist, Mr. William Friedman. I apologize for the lack of information.

((I think there are at least hints of German/Axis presence if you examine the screenshots. Definitely a few German divisions in Yugoslavia/Albania and I'm pretty sure one was visible on the Bulgarian/Greek border. How much beyond that I'm not sure. One thing you could do, Fire and Ash, is load up the save game available on post #1 and have a peek for yourself. There's always the gamey temptation to load up as Germany, but that would ruin the whole fun and surprise of it BUT...if you're trying to roleplay your role as Senator to a tee, even loading up the savegame would be a tad gamey...no Senator, certainly not in that era, would have been afforded that kind of view of things.))

Ok, I sent a revised list and sent research too.
Also I think you may of misunderstood my suggestions for 2nd army. Mine us that along with 4th army, 2nd Army attacks Hungry through the south while 4th attacks westward. This should be followed up by assisting 4th army itno Austria or attacking Romania. An alliterative is to attack Romania right after we secure Greece, this is more of a high risk, high reward plan as I could nock out Romania. Giving a huge break to the Soviets as well as denying the axis fuel. A push into Germany right away is not very likely to get that far and I would not vote for it. I think the current choices should be move into Hungary or attack eastward into Romania
