((Still waiting on Saithis to respond so I can do the update. Speaking of updates, they will come in two parts in peace time. One will be a general timeline of events, with lots of screenshots and detail, but not much in the way of narrative. The second part will be my State of the Union, in which I'll mention what we're to vote on for that six month period. Senators are free to introduce their own legislation without my prompting, with one exception: let's save the budget stuff for January of each year, just to keep things running smoothly. If we get some kind of windfall through events, I'll go ahead and ask you to create an amendment to the bill to spend the extra cash. It also has to be something I can model in game, obviously. If you aren't sure, send me a PM.

I've also decided to name Mr. Wagner the Secretary of War, since that seems to be the closest analog to what the game represents as an Armament Minister.

In the matter of our last budget bill, I'm going to call the debate closed. Let's move forward.))

((So for the sake of RP we can pump out legalisations about ridiculus stuff through USA that makes no sense and does not affect the game?))

((Let's see... ridiculous legislation that makes no sense? That sounds like Congress to me! :D

In seriousness, ask me first about that stuff. I have no problem with that kind of thing, but not if it the thread gets spammed with it. Let's say, as a rule of thumb, no more than one active piece of legislation that doesn't affect the game at a time, and you can't introduce fluff legislation with first getting a second senator to support you, which you can do via PM. I think that's fair for now.))

Name: Senator John Baker of Illinois
Born: 1900 (age 36)
Party: Democratic

Foreign policy plans- The United States must stay out of conflict. We must protect ourselves, and if at all possible, avoid any chance of another great war. We furthermore should attempt to exert our influence in stopping any potential second great war, for the good of humanity.

Budgets for IC- Infrastructure and Industrial expansion must be prioritized.

Budgets for leadership- Industry and technology.

Declaring war/signing peace treaties- War must be avoided. Calmer heads must prevail or the human race will suffer cataclysmic consequences.

Which faction we align ourselves to, if any: None as of now. We will align against belligerent nations if absolutely necessary.

If one of the Big Four needs to be fired/replaced- Public decision

General deployments overseas- Forces shall be garrisoned within the United States during peacetime.

All decisions and law changes- Focus on advocating stability. This is a tumultuous time for America and we need to stabilize her.

Nukes- Absolutely not. I will have no part in the development or deployment of such abhorrent weapons.

Timeline of Events: January - July 1936

First, I thought it would help to show everybody a graphical representation of the impact of our budget bill. Here's the IC and leadership (IC is after I built almost everything):

ic36.jpg

leadership36.jpg

The build queue:

buildqueue36.jpg

Not pictured: 24 artillery brigades, 4 IC, an escort carrier, two light cruisers, and a CAG.

The techs:

The cabinet:

Espionage:

espionage36.jpg

Events of January to July of 1936
For the timeline, I'm only including major events, for the most part. Minor events for countries we care about will also be included, or if they happen to make me laugh. Unless specifically mentioned, new techs and unit construction are done per orders of the Big Four. "Research continues" means I went on to the next level of that tech.

January 1, 1936: France forms the Popular Front.

January 4, 1936: UK begins influencing us.

January 9, 1936: Germany reoccupies Rhineland.

in later.]February 1, 1936: Italy fires "Trains run on time" decision.

February 4, 1936: King George V of the United Kingdom dies.

February 9, 1936: Nepal gets Surge of Volunteers.

February 14, 1936: I just now remember to add the IC to the construction queue. (Sorry, Saithis.)

April 7, 1936: Italy puppets Ethiopia.

May 30, 1936: By Executive Order, I add one infantry brigade to the build queue, since we're actually a brigade short of initial projections.

May 31, 1936: We finish Radio Detection Equipment. I add Supply Production to the queue.

June 4, 1936: We finish Light Tank Engine. I remove LTE and add Small Arms to the queue.

June 10, 1936: We finish Basic Bomb, Basic Medium Fuel Tank, Basic Twin Engine Airframe, Light Tank Reliability, and Light Tank Gun. Research continues on LTR and LTG. Research begins on Fighter Ground Control, Airborne Assault Tactics, and Tactical Air Command.

June 18, 1936: We finish Aircraft Carrier Armor. Research continues on Aircraft Carrier Armor.

June 19, 1936: We finish Cavalry Support Weapons, Cavalry Light Artillery, and Cavalry Anti-Tank Weapons. Research continues on all three.

June 20, 1936: We finish Cavalry Small Arms. Research continues.

June 27, 1936: I upgrade Italy's priority in espionage from 0 to 3. I should have done this sooner.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

July 1, 1936 save.

Next up is the State of the Union; it'll have a few more screen shots and what we need to take action on.

State of the Union, July 1936

My fellow Americans, the world has changed much in six short months. German troops entered the Rhineland, which was specifically forbidden by the Treaty of Versailles. A treaty, I must note, we did not sign. France and Great Britain have chosen to allow Chancellor Hitler to violate the treaty in this instance, perhaps hoping that is the end of his ambitions. I pray they are correct.

reoccupationofrhineland.jpg

Italy has conquered the Kingdom of Ethiopia. Prime Minister Mussolini insists that Ethiopia shall continue to govern itself, but I fear their actual intentions are to install a puppet regime.

ethiopialoses.jpg

In January, I met with Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden from the United Kingdom. He has asked that we consider joining the Allies as a way to deter further German and Italian aggression. I informed him that I do not feel the American people would want me to sign an alliance with a foreign power, but that we do remember our friends from across the pond. I have asked Secretary Hull to register formal protests with the German and Italian governments.

influence36.jpg

I am still in the process of reorganizing our military. General MacArthur, General Westover, and Admiral Standley have all submitted detailed plans, as has Secretary Wagner. I would like to take this opportunity to invite all four honorable gentlemen to address you more formally regarding their plans and visions for our armed forces.

We have completed construction on two destroyer divisions and the USS Quincy, which is a light cruiser. They have been deployed to Seattle. Four Carrier Air Wings, intended for the retrofitted USS Saratoga and Lexington are also completed and stationed in Seattle's air force base until the vessels are finished. Two Interceptor wings have also been completed and are awaiting deployment orders.

Our most pressing issue is the aggression of Germany and Italy. Shall we let this go unanswered? That is, in large part, up to you, Senators. Secretary Hull has advised me of five possible options in each case.

1. Do nothing.
2. Use our agents to tell the people of Germany and Italy what their leadership has done. Perhaps they will put pressure on their leaders. ((Use spies to raise threat.))
3. Institute a formal Embargo on all economic trade with these countries. We are not bound to the League of Nations and may act unilaterally if we wish.
4. Ask our agents to attempt a coup de' tat. In neither case are our agents ready to do so yet, but they may be soon.
5. Declare war on one or both countries. I would vehemently object to this course of action, as I do not think our armed forces are prepared to deal with an overseas conflict, but I am presenting the option nonetheless.

We might also align ourselves more closely to the Allied countries, which could deter further aggression.

Senators, I am deeply concerned. Yes, our own nation is still recovering from the effects of Depression. Yes, there are those who consider Germany and Italy to be right in their actions. Prime Minister Baldwin does not consider either Germany or Italy a threat to world peace. I am not so certain. Irregardless, it is you, Senators, who shall guide our country as the elected representatives of the American people.

Thank you, and good night.

((Note: For non-English speakers, irregardless isn't actually a word, but it is one that FDR threw around a lot. The actual word is regardless. Just a little historical color for you. :)))
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saithis, TankofMidgets, and Chimina, please feel free to share as much or as little about your plans (OOBs and build queues) as you like. Chimina, you need to tell me where to put your finished fighters; you left that out of your build plan :) Senators, feel free to ask specific questions of any and all ministers.

We have three specific things to vote on.

1) Do we align ourselves with a faction yet? If so, which one? We'll do this like last time; everybody can vote Allied, Axis, Comintern, or Isolationist for affiliation.

2) What do we do about Germany and Italy? The options above are merely suggestions; any Senators who wish to concoct a bill to specifically deal with this may do so. Or, we can do nothing. If we don't have a bill in place by say, Thursday, I'll assume we're to do nothing.

3) Ministers: do we want new ones? We've got fractured government right now, for example, but the America First party is supposed to get a slot and there's nobody available from that party. If one of the Big Four (or perhaps Three) wants to step down, please let me know as soon as possible by PM. For NPC (non-player character) ministers, if a minimum of three Senators want to see somebody replaced, I'll tell you the alternatives. You'll then vote on a recommended replacement.

You're also free to work to get any other bills that could affect the game in some way passed; I would ask that nobody introduce them in the thread until you have the two Senators necessary for an official bill; you can PM each other to work that out :) I don't want too much clutter. If you're not sure if a bill is appropriate, please let me know.

I'd like to have everything finished by Friday, January 20 at 10 PM, -6 GMT (US CST). If bills are introduced, I'll adjust the deadline as appropriate.

I vote to remain Isolationist for now, although the German occupation of the Rheinland is worrisome, let the English and French deal with that as they seem fit. It is not our problem at this moment. As for the Italian actions in Ethiopia, let them play in the dessert. For now we should focus on the United States and the United States alone, except for our espionage programme ofcourse. This does not stop us from maintaining our good relations with the Allies.

Furthermore I would like to know why there are 2 naval doctrines in our technology programme that won't be done until 4 Februari 1938. Aren't there more useful researches to do at the moment, or is this the fastest the research will ever go?

Other than this I have no comments or questions at present time.

I vote to join the Comintern. The Soviet Union offers us plenty of ways to expand strategically. The actions of the stupid Fuhrer in Berlin is indeed worrisome, but let the French and British deal with it. As for Italy: The Allies can easily overrun that weak neo-Empire.

I recommend we influence policy of our neighbors towards our eventual viewpoint too.

-Kenzington-Beckendorf Bill-

After many talk between me and Senator Beckendorf, we have decided to put forward a Bill to designate the foreign policy of our nation for the comming period.

1. The USA shall stand alone, we do not need or seek any partnership with any of the factions throughout the World, there is no need for this as A. The power balance is equal, B. There is no conflict that needs our heeding. If they wish to trade with us they can but we shall not interfere with the politics of Eurasia.

2. Italy has horribly violated the right of soverginity of the kingdom of Ethiopia which even though is christian doesnt have the right to exist in the eyes of the Italians, they have even used the muderous gas that was seen use during the horrible great war. Germany has violated and broken an international deal without consulting with the powers that constructed it, England and France and partly USA but we dont want anything with it, It is an act of hostiliy towards the world peace. We propose a 4-6 month long trade embargo on these two nations so that they might learn that if they continue to do any of these hostile actions there will be consequences, not nessecarily from the USA.

3. The Current ministers are great and efficent and if they don't want to resign themselves they should stay in office.

My vote goes like this

1.He would remain Isolationist for now.Contrary to the words of Senator Elizabeth Helen Danner I do not support aligning with the Bolsheviks that heavily.I support though good relations with them.

2.The Aggresion of Germany and Italy for me was expected.I think we need to keep a good eye on them and also i would like supporting the other parties to break the totalitarianism of NSDAP.For now no severe actions.

3.The Cabinet and The Ministers are good.I demand no changes to be done

Signed,Senator John Sarigis of South California

I will not put my name on this bill.

I agree that Italy's agression wasn't warranted in Ethiopia and if you want the US to stand alone it really isn't any of our business what they did or didn't do in Africa.

Germany is in their full right to take back land that already belongs to them and they shouldn't be punished for that. We would do the same if we where in their shoes.

((I'm not signing it so far))
Gentelmen, your bill seems to be fair answer against ruthless and brutal violation of world's peace. However while Germany seems to regain power and retake theoretically their lands back, Italy has made a serious crime - they invaded and enslaved free country that didn't even had a chance to seek help from his neighbours. I'd suggest embargoing Germany for 4 months, however Italy should be cut off from United States' resources at least for 9 months. I'd also recommend collecting a group of senate members to form a comission which task would be elaboration of bill that would support the trade and industry in countries that may be endangered by Germany and Italy.

Sen. Alvin Carl Miller

(( about the comission - I'd suggest 6 senators of every political pole - two from nationalists/fascists, two from democrats/liberals and two from reds. They would decide if we should support other countries like Poland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Yugoslavia or Greece. I'm talking about cheating here, and what I mean that with every IC US builds Avindian could edit save and add 1 IC for one of those countries - this would have not only thread existence but also would change gameplay))

Well, you make a point that Italy should be punished harder, Germany can be emargoed for 4 months as the bill said 4-6 months.

However on that comission of yours, those 2 nationalists/fascits would said no to any help as they would support Germany and Italy and the reds would say no to anything that could possibly treathen the soviet union, so i dont believe such a comission would work, though its a very good idea.

Well, their presence is needed because US are democratic country and all point of views are respected. They can at least try to block comission's work, but then we could arrange that comission needs 1/2 or 2/3 of votes, so basically it's all about talking and trying to work out a compromise. However it's up to mr. president if he decides to form a comission.
