Don't forget the Custom Nation conspiracy. Some of the money flows into MP and Wiz's and Johan's fleets of private yachts is being re-routed into SP custom nations. (I arranged this with Wiz months ago, so I'm happy)

As an evil corporation I expect you to pack some of that money into comically large bags with dollar signs on them, go buy an orphanage, kick the orphans out into the gutter, and use the former orphanage to store your money.
Modest Proposal improvement: sell the orphans as food.

LOL.

I can just see the OP as an old man with waving his fist. "How dare they do things differently! Back in my day....."

I love it that people (very small minority) still put on their ignorance hat and try to say that manual development being absent has made the game P2W. You can't even reason with these people...remember, they are wearing the hat.

Edit: Why is this post even still here? It is obviously a troll-flame thread. Nothing constructive will come from it.

Why complain about a game that gets free updates? Expansions just adds a little oef for the ones that keep supporting and playing EU4.
Its better then getting EU5 a year after the release with the same features as the base game but "better" graphics and "diffrent" start date.

i don't really have a beef with the new dlc business but I do have a beef with the dlc pricing. I paid £25 for eu4 at release and I recently paid £12 for the latest dlc, so for one single dlc the cost was almost half what I paid for the full game which doesn't sound right.

I think paradox are making enough money to charge say £5 for their dlcs while still making a tidy profit. I know people will say well just wait till the steam sales but paradox know most people wont do that.

Well articulated OP, thanks.

More constructively, I think most people really only care about the OOS issues with MP at this point, everything else is secondary when it comes to the MP experience.

Let's see. all caps inflamatory username, check. Starting the post with all caps and multiple exclamation points, check. Overuse of caps and exclamation points in general, check. Overuse of ellipses... check. Very poor typing, check.

Appealing to the silent majority, check.

Loud noises and boot stomping does not a proper argument make. Which is sad because while discussions about company policy are always healthy and the discussion regarding content pricing policy is always important to be had, if whoever wrote this thing is actually interested in putting forward some sort of point instead of some fairly ineffective attempt at trolling, aka the "I was only pretending to be retarded" clause, he made a pretty excellent job of guaranteeing it will not be taken seriously at all and just generally made a fool of himself.

Go be needlesly dramatic somewhere else.

Even though OP is preposterous, some of the recent DLC policies have been questionable. If you download the latest Common Sense patch, you lose the ability to build anything, but can't improve the development of your provinces if you don't own the DLC. If you don't apply the patch, your game is no longer supported because you don't have the latest patch.

A feature was taken out and replaced with another, for which you have to pay for. If you choose not to pay for it, you aren't left with the old feature, you just don't get the new feature.

Some earlies examples of not being able to mass upgrade ships without a DLC is also troublesome for me. It wasn't a matter of a new feature, just a matter of convenience. That decision reminded me of Facebook games where you had to pay to be able to do things efficiently, like Farmville. You could plant 10 fields with 10 clicks, or fork out 5 dollars and get a tractor so that you could plant 10 fields with a single click.

I don't subscribe to the notion that Paradox has been cutting the game to resell pieces as the DLC later (although there are many developers who do that), but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't question some of their decisions.

One thing to consider: Paradox is not making "P2W" games. "Pay to Win." It's not like other companies where you need to buy DLC to a) reach a new level cap, b) open new areas of the map, c) get the biggest/baddest weapons.

The basic game lacks some "chrome" (events, sprites, music) and certain mechanics without the DLC, but you still get to play a global, full-course-of-history game of EUIV.

Consider Paradox' "even-more-evil" peers in the gaming industry when you weigh in on the topic.

Unless you consider CK2 Paradox game. Have fun playing 9th century romuva tribe without the DLCs ;)

Not to mention that that game was unplayable. I couldn't even get thou tutorial, "ops we forgot to test that". I wish steam had refund back then", 50€ out the drain.

Could be worse. Total War Attila? Does not run on Macs (mind you, there is an official Mac version that was released on Day 1). I have literally the top spec'd iMac in existence. Won't run for more than 10 minutes without crashing. Their response? Their *official* response? "We're aware of the problem. Contact Apple."

In all seriousness

I don't normal read these kinds of threads, but I'd like to make some of my Opinions heard.

Originally I disliked Paradox's DLC policy, since I was quite Old school in my liking of the old expansion system, hell I hated Steam when I had to download it to Play Empire Total War back in 2009, so that pissed me off. But I wasn't really looking at the big picture. Over Time Paradox's DLC system grew on me. It's not because I'm rich which I am not. It's because they simple deliver a product that I like and works (Mostly, I'm looking at you HoI3 out of the Box). I do agree that when someone who has never played any PDS game, looks at a game like CK2, and they might be quite put off, due to the sheer amount of DLC. I understand that someone new might assume that Paradox was just simply striping out features for resale at a latter date, but if you play PDS games and understand their policy and are a apart of their community you will know that, this is simply not the case. When CK2 was released there was no India nor Steppes, in EU4 there was no fort zone of control. These feature came after the games release. Normal most of these features would be only available to people how buy that Expansion. But PDS don't do that their policy is that every Expansion comes with a free patch, with included new things, as well as bug fixes and adjustments to existing features. Most Game devs don't do this PDS do. While there are some things that PDS do that I don't agree with, the exclusion of the development system from 1.12 EU4 being one, overall they have earned my money because as years go by their products get better and better, and with a combined total of 3,000 hours playing PDS games, they were worth it. Unlike Creative Assembly they haven't destroyed a good Strategy game series, because of DLC whoring, Shogun 2 Total War was and will always be my last Total War ever. I've boycotted EA games since 2013 and haven't broken that since, IMO Paradox are one of best companies in the gaming Industry.

I am sorry, when i was reading this thread i was laughing...
Paradox the "evil corporation" is far less penny anti than any of the facebook games you'll EVER play. It's less nickle and dime by far, than say... Kalypso Interactive who advertize it one way, and give you something that holds not a candle to their own advertizement...
Mind you i was not very thrilled with the latest DLC, but still I like EU IV as a whole DLC and otherwise.
