I totally agree with this guy

He lives :D. (Well, we had sign-of-life through the DLC, but this is much better :)). Loving your work Vonboe, looking forward to plenty more :). See if you can't talk the powers that be into letting you do some ships ;).

On those not keen on the 3D models (and I'm not crazy gung-ho on them or anything, but they do add immersion for me - if I'm playing ENG and I see Indian and Australian models alongside the British ones it does help highlight the multinational nature of the Commonwealth forces, for example), they're an option, and aren't taking away from any of the work done by the core team beyond the scripting required to tell the game to use them. It's so ludicrously unlikely that the models are holding the game back that there's no real reason to ask for less. Optional (which they are) yes, but let the people who enjoy the counters enjoy the counters :).

I'm well aware, but full heartedly disagree with the project manager's resource allocation. With the limited funding they have and the state of the game, why pump money into flashy objects that don't affect or improve the game.

I'm not saying to fire them, let them work on different games, like a sci-GI game, which tends to wow people with the visuals. Trade them for other resources that can code. Use their funding to hire contractors, to work on trivial things, like national focus trees...

NF trees are anything but trivial! Anyways, on this count, it might be important (like me with logistics and not having corvettes in the game) to accept that Paradox isn't designing a game specifically for us, so there'll always be elements we'll be more and less fond of. By all means register your disagreement of course, but it's clear from the thread (indeed, the OP!) that there are HoI4 fans that do like the 3D models, and the advice of the devs is that throwing more resources at the AI (by far the biggest 'issue' the game faces) isn't likely to speed things up a heap. In that context, why not have 3D models and a full-time AI coder plus part-time helper (something the HoI4 series has never had, afaik - so a big step forwards, which does actually show in the game)?

Clearly there are a decent amount of folks that would walk up to a cake, use their middle finger, scoop up icing and say "that's a good cake!"...or prefer a flashy 3D version of tic-tac-toe to a good ol' game of chess. Funny how chess is still played today...

Concerning resources, any failure to achieve a design objective comes down to lack of resources or misallocation of them. Time being the greatest.

Steelvolt I'm sure has lots of ideas, but not enough time. Hire him a manservant to get his coffee, cook his meals, do his laundry. Lol, anything to make his work life easier. Hire him a staff. Let him be the AI manager, not the only AI developer. Great chefs know how to do it all, but they are not the only cooks in a fine restaurant. But this takes resources, which apparently the project doesn't have, or chooses to spend them in a different way. Enjoy the icing!!

Yay... A life sign from Vonboe!!!
Yep alive and well :)
Just been really busy and haven't had much to talk about/add to the conversation of HoI4

We also have to have generic icons in Polish infantry research replaced by your work from over a year ago ;)
I believe a Poland specific pack was released along with the game ( not the Polish models/2d I made though ) I don't think Paradox needs the art I did for Poland, so I could probably just release it as a mod if people are interested.

Sure, I could ask about the Navel models/icons and hear if it something they could find interesting.

It's remarkable how many people will look down their noses on other players because they happen to prefer a different design approach, too. I know many people prefer RISK to Axis&Allies, or vanilla HOI3 over BlackICE. Doesn't mean I think I'm a "better" or more sophisticated player than them.

Heck, couldn't Paradox ask the artists from Eugen to do this? :p
What would also be cool would be to have the option, in addition to assigning an icon to each templae, to assign unique icons to indvidiaul divisions. Not just for BlackICE-grognard "I want every division to have its historical emblem" players, but also for more casual role-playing reasons.

This can be accomplished by just cloning division templates, of course, but I find that this clutters up the division template window ;) .

But I am afraid that we will not get such DLC with 2d map mode and hoi3 counters, because I think devs are looking on stats how many people use counters only in hoi4 and even I don't use this option, just because of bad implementation of them in hoi4, but statistically developers see that those options are low in use. And because of this they will be afraid to spend resources on this kind of DLC.

Sadly probably right.

Also the new counter system doesn't lend at all to mods. All the counter mods I've tried just don't work well at certain zoom levels.

There is always mods :) . There's a mod for CK2 that turns the map into a "drawn" map that feels more like the maps of that age. Just get together with someone and make a map that's a flat heightmap with a WWII map look and feel.

But main thing for me is to turn off hoi4 counters and replace 3d soldiers with hoi3 counters that can stack up like it was in hoi3.
I really hate all those hoi4 counters that jump all around and when I can't select some of them when one part in the fight and they are above those who I would like to select. Especially when those divisions are from several different armies. In hoi3 you cound select all divisions in province and deselect some of them even if they were from different armies.
Hoi4 isn't friendly game for those who prefer to play manually.

Yeah, if the devs added the ability to mod counters, the same way you can mod map modes in Stellaris, for example, that'd make a lot of people very happy.

Also agree the current way they're coded leaves a lot to be desired. I hope they fix that soon so that they work more like the ones in the Strategic View Adjustments mod.
