Certainly, but too late now. :(

How is the air war coming?

Great AAR, and good luck!

The air war is going good for the allies, the Soviets seem to be staying out of the air now, and Canadian and American bombers hit Soviet possitions all day :)

Chapter 4 : Battle of Groningen

wulzqh.jpg

The Soviets were advancing on Europe, at a alarming pace. The Allied forces in Europe were starting to be overwhelmed. The Americans have already lost mainland Korea, to the Soviets, and the Red forces continued to advance into Greece, Iran, and Turkey. The Soviets now started to make thier way into the Dutch fields and managed to take many small villages and a few towns. The Dutch, were somewhat helpless, as thier army was recently built, and they were using poor equipment, and had low moral. On the night of November 25th, 1945, the Dutch forces in Leeuwarden reported that the Soviets have captured the small city of Groningen. The Dutch forces made attempts to take the city back but failed, and could get past the Soviet blockade around the city. So the British called for help as they tried to attack the area, but again they failed. Canadian high command in Hannover, volutered to send out 5 Canadian divisions to attempt to retake the city.

The Canadian forces took a couple days to get there. When they got there, there were American and British forces stationed outside. The Canadians quickly got into order, and prepared to fight the Soviets in Groningen. The battle started in the early morning of 2nd. The Canadians fought viciously to take back these Dutch lands. To Support the Canadian divisions, the RCAF (Royal Canadian Airforce) bombed Soviet possitions daily, in attempt to destroy thier organization and help out the ground forces. The Battle raged on through the night. Soviet and Canadian artillary rained down on the recently repaired city, destroying many of the buildings that were recently rebuilt. The next morning the battle continued, the Canadian soldiers didn't get any sleep that night. This is the journal of a soldier named Private Jacob Osmond.

"I recently got to Groningen a couple of hours ago, and the battle has been raging on since, other soldiers tell me that the battle has been going on since 6 am, this morning. The artillary rains down each minute, it seems to get closer, as the rumbling grows louder, and outside i can hear our boys firing thier artillary back at those Reds. Its dark out and its a clear night, but im sure almost anyone would be fooled into thinking it was a storm outside, as everytime artillary fires, it flashes like lightening outside. Hmm..well i must go back outside...into the gun fire, and combat."

-Jacob Osmond, December 2nd, 1945-

In the evening of December 3rd, 1945, Soviet troops were given the orders to pull out of the city and retreat back into the nearby cities of Munster, and Dortmund. The Canadians quickly established a base of operations in the damaged city, many Canadian soldiers even helped the citizens start to rebuild the city again. Word was out that the Canadian Army was preparing to send 4 more divisions over to Europe to help out the other Allies there. The Soviets still were pushing through Western Europe, and were near the French border, the French and American and British soldiers were starting to get tired, as were the Soviets, but Stalin insisted on sending more and more soldiers to focus on Europe. The Canadians have driven the Soviets out for now, but how long will it be before they attack again.

Looks serious.

How's the war in China going? Are the Nationalists a member of the allies in this scenario?

Holy crap. I say get the Canadians out of Northern Germany before they get pocketed and destroyed.

I have taken notice to this little predicament. And i have the Royal Canadian Navy, along with many, many transports in the waters of Northern Germany incase an evacuation is needed.

I think I'd evacuate them anyway. Those troops will be far more useful stopping the Reds in their impending invasion of Holland than sitting in Northern Germany doing diddly squat.

Point taken, ill have to evacute them to France in the next update. It will of course, include a good story line. :)

Chapter 5 : Evacuation From Germany

wv1t8p.jpg

Not to long after the victory at Groningen, the Canadian military, and the Government knew that Northern Germany wouldn't last much longer and it would be only a matter of time before the Soviets surrounded and destroy any remaining Allied forces in the area. And they knew they had to get those soldiers out of there before such a thing could happen. They had the navy waiting by the coast, and all they needed to do was pull the divisions back to the coast, and get the ships to pick up the soldiers, and armour.

On December 6th, 1945, the Royal Canadian fleet, was attack by a small Soviet interception force made of destroyers. The RCN reacted quickly, making sure they drove off all the Soviet ships before attempting to evacuate the Canadian soldiers. The sea battle was over very quickly. The Soviet ships were out numbered, and out gunned. During the battle the Soviets lost a flotilla of destroyers. Right after the sea victory, the Canadian ships started evacuating the soldiers, and armour. The evacuation took several hours but in the end, all the Canadian soldiers were on the ships, and were headed towards Ghent, Belgium.

Canadian soldiers make it safely to Ghent, Belgium.

The Canadians make it off the ship safely and start to split up. 5 division are planned to head to the large city of Aachen, while 3 other divisions are planned to defend the Dutch city of Eindhoven. The Soviets havn't made much moves into France, and Belgium but the Canadians are planning to defend if the Soviets head in that direction. The Canadian high command has been toying with the idea of an offensive near the German/Dutch border, in which they plan to send the Soviets back into most of East Germany, and Austria. This plan could be risky, because if it fails, the Canadian divisions are vulnurable, and would be open for a counter attack. The situation in Europe seems to worsen every couple days. Almost all of Northern Italy has been taken by the Yugoslavians, and Soviets, along with Northern Greece. And Eastern holland, and the large city of Arnhem has been taken by the Soviets. The Allies are now making plans to pull back into France....

very interesting! !

if the Soviets could have done that IRL, they would have! ! Stalin did not care one iota about world opinion. all he cared about was power. if he had had the power, all of Europe would have been taken by the sword! ! ;)

even so, awesome AAR! ! :D

When you load up the map of Europe like that it doesn't look that bad, espcially when you consider that the war has already lasted 80 days. The US most be mobolizing like mad and flooding the continent with reinforcements. Since the allies have avoided an early defeat I'm sure they will win.

Stalin's doomed... I tried this as the USA and destroyed 100 divisions with nukes and encirclements in less than a year. :D

Naturally, now it's Canada's turn. :D :D

Chapter 6 : The Red Canadians

x0tljc.jpg

With the war raging in Europe, and the Canadian soldiers gone away fighting the battles against the Communist forces, it was hard for the people of Canada not to get wired up, and fustrated. Some were angry at the Government joining the Allies and even fighting a war with the Soviets, while others were angry at the fact that the Government would rather fight a war against the Soviets, rather then make peace with them, or attempt to. But the people that were especially mad and upset were the Communists, and the Communist Party of Canada. They thought the war with the Soviets was unnessicary, and useless. It was only a matter of time before the Soviets overan Europe, and created puppet Governments, then Canada would soon want out of the war, and make peace. Then would be the Communists time to strike.

Anti War Protests in Toronto.

The Communist party decided to startle the Government, which might make them want to sign peace with the Soviets faster and end the war as soon as possible. So in the early morning of December 27th, 1945, Communist militia, some wearing gas masks to hide thier faces, opened fire, shooting in the air to make the population around Downtown Toronto , scatter. This was a distraction so the bomb crews could run in and hold many of the Government officials hostage in this small Government office. They proceded to set the C4 charge, and get out of there. As they started to leave, Toronto police forces, sighted them and opened fire on them, killing 5 of them, in a fire fight, including the bomb crew, and injuring 3. The other 1 escaped, but injured.

This surprized the Canadian Government, and they decide to set up a garrison division near Ottawa to prevent this kind of attack from happening again. Some Government officials even suggested banning the Communist parties, but they dismissed the idea, saying it probably would only make things worse, and there was no real point. The public would have to accept the fact that Canada was going to fight to the bitter end against the Communist threat, to protect the free democratic world. Rumors also have been going around that Newfoundland and Labrador are soon planning to join Canada, which could help Canada out a lot in the long run, economically, and also help out the countries military. The Government just hoped that Newfoundland & Labrador would make this decision soon so they could focus on other matters.

Despite the Protests the war continued in Europe, and many Canadian citizens accepted that fact and didn't complain as much. But the Canadian forces in Europe would soon find themselves fighting another battle against the Reds, in a short matter of time....

Chapter 7 : The Offensive In The Low Lands

x10tco.jpg

As the little battle the Government was fighting, raged on back at the homefront, the Canadians were still fighting on in Europe, hoping to hold back the Soviets for as long as possible. Canadian forces, and high command decided that they should start an offensive in Dortmund, and slowly push thier way through Dortmund and Central Germany, to help out thier surrounded Allies to the North, who continued to fight viciously to hold the land that they can keep. The Canadian divisions, along with many French, British and American divisions, attack the city of Dortmund. The battle raged on the for several hours, the weakend Soviet divisions refused to pull out but, eventually retreated with fear as the Allies entered the city. Not to long after, the Soviets staged a counter attack upon Canadian forces, who were the first soldiers to secure the city. The Soviets out numebered them by over 10 more divisions and the Canadians were sent back to Dortmund, exausted and beaten.

x10yo0.jpg

The High Command in Europe, knew after such a defeat, they would have to send the 4 new divisions over to Europe, to aid that other divisions, that have been fighting there for several months, which made many of them exausted. The new soldiers would be sent from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to the port city of Dover, England. And from there they would be sent across the channel into the capital of Holland, Amsterdam. Where they would assit the Dutch army, that have been fighting to hold on to thier capital, among other things, for a few weeks. The Canadian divisions managed to get there in one piece, but unfortunatly the Dutch capital was once again attacked, which inflicted many casualties upon Dutch soldiers, but they managed to keep themselves together and still hold on to the city.

x112ki.jpg

Troops leaving Halifax, Nova Scotia, heading towards England.

Upon arriving in Amsterdam, the high command noticed that the city of Leeuwarden was taken quite a bit ago, but the RCAF bombers and USAF bombers have been hitting the city for a couple weeks now, weaking Soviet positions and severly damaging moral. The Canadians found an oportunity to take those divisions out and retake the Dutch city. They attacked the city in the early morning of January 22nd, 1946, and the battle was very quick, the Canadian forces eliminating most of the threats easily and quickly, even some of the Soviet soldiers surrendered upon seeing the Canadians enter the city, apparently a lot of Soviets didn't want this war ethier. The city was taken that afternoon and the Canadians sucured the city. The Soviets attemped a quick counter attack, but were defeat very quickly and sent back to Groningen.

Victory at Leeuwarden.

x1a96w.jpg

The Canadians managed to set up a spy program in Canada. They only did manage to send 1 spy to the Soviet Union, which got information, though not completely positive, was good enough for the Canadian military at the time, which needed any information on the enemy as it could get. The Canadian Government also discovered that the Soviets, indeed have a spy running around in Canada sending back information to the Soviet Union, which couldnt be good for Canada, though the Government didn't pay much attention to it.

x1adeq.jpg

Not very positive information on the Soviet Economy, and Military

This was the victory at Leeuwarden was the one, the Allies were hoping for. Maybe from here this could be the start of the re-liberation of Europe. The Canadians were soon to be followed by the Dutch army, which was following behind them to soon enter the city they just recently captured, with this new door opened, this can lead to many different strategies if the Canadians can hold on to the city they captured, or if the Allies can keep control of Northern Germany, and Denmark. But things can change in the future, and almost anything is possible in this war.

It may be a nice idea to open another front.
