Fanatical Purifiers disables diplomacy and gives massive military bonuses. Fanatical Befrienders are equally vigorous in their pursuit of friends, so I'm thinking they should lose the ability to set rivals, gain Influence from any diplomatic relations, and lose Influence and happiness for every rivalry set on them (better send in the ground huggers—we have new friends to make).

Yes, please. Except for being penalized for being a target of rivalry, as it's almost impossible to get out of rivalry, once set by an AI nation (unless the intention is to encourage friendly conquest - in which case, carry on).

You mean Federation Builders? I know that is an AI personality. It seems we can build that without a specialized civic. Fanatic Xenophile and Charismatic for max diplo bonuses. Get the Diplomacy tradition tree which last we saw enables federations and gave you bonuses based on federation mechanics. One of the traditions was a % unity bonus per empire in your federation as well so there is your reward for making lots of friends. There is probably a civic or two planned for diplomacy as well.

You know it!

It would probably have to be scaled so that the smaller the friendly rival, the less bothered by it your Pops are. After all, if you're so big and awesome, why wouldn't they want senpai to notice them?

Fanatical Befrienders are... Uh... A bit more direct in their acquisition of friends than a Federation Builder would be. For one, it would only be available to species with the solitary and repugnant traits, plus you'd need to be a fanatically xenophilic militarist. Friendship through superior firepower, baby.

This does not make sense to me. You are saying that you want an empire that "you have to be my friend or else I kill you? or else... what happens?" Please explain your idea behind this because as for now, it seems like its jibberish.

The basic idea of Fanatic Befrienders is that race is batshit insane yandere whose concept of "alliance" is distorted by their ditz personality. "You are with us or against us".

That does not make sense, besides, you already have fanatic xenophile. That is basically that. You cannot make an equivalent of fanatic purifiers. I think doing so wouldnt make such sense.
So you are forcefully trying to make races like you? How would that work? I am not seeing this sorry, I have to disagree with the idea.

Actually as I understand the concept its more like "to forcefully make races to be allied with you." If I would do mechanics for that I would do the FB AI extremely agressive against anyone who paint us as our "rivals", but not so if it's neutral or friendly. Basicly federation builders, but much more ruthless against their rivals.

From player perspective "forced alliance" may be added for them as a high-score war goal.

It's already in the game as an ultra-specialized AI personality- its what the Blorg pregen empire becomes if it appears in-game.

Have you watched any of the Fanatic Xenophile/Militarist Blorg streams Paradox have released? They are known for as fantastic quotes as "Friendship is mandatory" and "We are Blorg. You will be befriended. Resistance is impolite".

Yes everybody I know we have the Blorgs. What I am asking is how would you make that even more extreme. OP requested a "Fanatical Befrienders" which does not make sense to me. How would that be more extreme? This is what I am having trouble understand. What do you all mean by that? Isnt the Blorg enough? What would be the difference?

The Fanatic Purifier Civic being added is just a way of making AI and player "Fanatic Purifier" empires have the exact same restrictions on them- surely a similar Civic could be made to make Fanatic Befriender empires play the same way whether they're AI or player?

"Fanatical Befrienders" isn't any more extreme than the Blorg, it is the Blorg. "Fanatical Purifiers" as a civic, is based on the AI personality "Fanatical Purifiers". If the Blorg spawns they have the AI personality "Fanatical Befrienders", OP wants a civic based on this AI personality.
Thats one actualy from game Paranoia in form of "Happyness is mandatory".
Pretty sure I've also seen something similar to "We are Blorg. Resistance is impolite" somewhere else.

It's to obvious, so I dont have to be Captain here.

Also, are you guys sure that rivalry happyness penalty is a bad thing? From balance perspective it is, but from gameplay...oh, hillarity! It will make player eager to kill his rivals just for the sake of eliminating the penalty and its EXACLY HOW FANATIC BEFRIENDERS WORKS :D

I predict FB MOD if its not a feature.

The difference would be that you would get modifiers that encourage that kind of behaviour, and also provide maluses for less insane behaviour.
Just like what Fanatical Purifiers will do.

Thank you all for explaining. I think I am starting to understand: so basically massive boosts to diplomacy even more than a fanatic xenophile nation. Sure, why not.
Do I understand this right?
