It seems that World Conquest in 1.8 is even more difficult than before:

* Many more provinces - especially in West Africa and North Africa
* AIs in Africa and other regions westernizing faster -> can't protectorate vast swathes of territory means multiple wars conquering the same territory
* AIs in New World colonizing more frequently and westernizing

A difficult feat made impossible? Maybe that was one of Paradox's goals?

far from impossible, you can feed vassals very easy now by chaning occupation to the vassals and you only need to remove all independent nations, not own all land not that hard at ll espacially not with a good start.

Johan made an explicit reference in one of the dev diaries that WC would now be impossible. I think this has been exaggerated, as most of the new provinces are in protectorate land. This will make carpet-sieging take a bit longer, but it should still be doable.

One thing that may interfere is the AI's much greater willingness and ability to westernize. I've never had a protectorate "outgrow" its subject status, but that may be a problem.

I thought client states were same continent only, or land connection. This is unlikely for the western HRE strats, but I suppose it works with Ottos.

HRE strats are not important to do WC with anyway.
Asian nation that westernize can be turned into a vassal, that you can feed other western asia countries, if needed go over relationship limit in vassals, have 7 instead of 4 if needed.

Client states are for non oversea provinces, Russia and Ottomans should be able to create client states in Asia, same for a big expansionst European nation with land all way into asia.

World conquest is actually probably easier than in previous patches because vassal feeding got a huge buff. The only thing is that one would need to prevent the colonizers from doing their thing. Just like the very early patches, one would need to target them first, and prevent them from having any colonies that african or asian minors can westernize from.

The only thing is that one would need to prevent the colonizers from doing their thing

In 1.8 it's not just the big three that colonize (England/France/Castile). Denmark/Brittany/Scotland/Norway/France will all plant colonies which allows the native AIs to westernize.

Protactorates [sic] are not needed, espacially [sic] if you have the ability to form client states in asia to eat all that land

Can you sell any province to a client state? Do client states take a diplo slot?

They take a diplo slot, but that is not really important.
Use the client state button and you can give provinces to an client state in existence.

I'm pretty sure it became easier with AoW changes - I would not be surprised to see very proficient player finish a WC in ~1620s.

When your protectorates westernize, do you get an option to DOW them and vassalize them?

In addition to what has been said so far you can now revoke the privilegia before 1470 if all else fails. I haven't tried going on after that but it should be fairly easy to steamroll colonial europeans with 45 vassals that early.

World conquest has never been easier; in fact it is so easy that I am trying to achieve it before the year 1700.

The only real inhibition to WC from 1.8 would seem to be the AI westernizing so fast. Aside from that I think the changes in AoW easily outweigh any other means by which WC was made harder, and even with the AI westernizing I'd say its still quite doable without starting as GPs or cheesy HRE abuse.

In 1.7 I did not abused the HRE when I conquered everyone by ~1740 with Frankfurt and I barely needed to break truces so I think it can be done without HRE abuse in 1.8 ; having said that if one starts small the new LA will make the initial blobbing slower which might be a problem but should not be unsurmountable especially if one starts in Europe.
