WC as a cure for Newbie boredom?

I would say slim to none. You need to start your worldconquest atleast 70 years before the end of the game. You have about five wars against the rest of the countries in the world left in you (at best), and that is probably not enough to take fx. China.

To take the world you would normally need to have level 60 landtech in 1720 or so (if it's little later like perhaps 1750, it can still be done). You need to be playing at very hard in order to have the AI declare war on you whenever its peacetreaty ends. You can not afford to loose stability since it is very expensive, and your BB will rise to something like 600 or so, and that will cause civil wars.

However if you are a newbee I think that your achievement is rather impressive.

It is doable at lower techs. That said, it's a lot easier if you're grossly before the the rest of the world in tech. Also, yes it's too late to finish your WC, but why not go above the BB threshold anyway for some action?
