So when playing with little guys I'm always unsure if my early game is too slow or late game is too slow. How is this for early game speed? 1572 747 dev. I haven't really built anything as I spent most of my game time in debt.

Your progess is slow, maybe even too slow. A wc is still possible (anything pre 1600 is wc material basically), but since you have never done one before it may be too difficult to manage all the wars and coalitions in the lategame. Also your economical power base isnt really set up for a wc. What are your idea groups?

747 development is... really quite low for 130 years into the game. I've started with OPMs in far worse spots and had... 3-4 times your development by then.

It's not that your campaign is ruined: world conquests can be completed from some pretty awful positions once Administrative Efficiency starts exploding, but the fact that you've only conquered that much in roughly a third of the time alloted to you is not promising, especially since you're behind in tech and ideas to boot. (which again, would be fine if you had more land and were lagging in tech purposefully.)

All this tells me you aren't ready, yet. Honestly, too many people fetishize WCs... they're incredibly boring and the only sense of accomplishment you'll feel afterwards is the relief at never having to look at that save file again.

Here's some advice, take it or leave it: keep playing this save, even if you're not likely to hit WC-pace with it. Keep growing, learn to fight big wars, learn to chain wars for efficient integration, learn how invading each continent differs in strategy and feel, learn how late-game Admin Efficiency and Imperialism changes the face of the game. You'll have a lot more fun, be a lot less frustrated, and probably learn far more than if you're constantly measuring yourself against a goal that's out of reach. And when you're done, you'll be that much more prepared for a WC, if you even still want it.

One major positive I see is that India looks like a mess where no one has really been able to unify much of it. You can probably conquer a good chunk of it fairly quickly which will improve your economic situation quickly. Do you own any technically European provinces to move capital to? I can see a way forward here.

In terms of a WC benchmark, there are two separate questions there. You certainly can WC from where you are. If I were playing that game though, I wouldn't be happy with my progress were I aiming for a WC. But really the first 200 years about building the base from which you can conquer everything in the last 150.

That + economy to sustain constant warfare in the last part of the game are what carries the big land grabs that make for typical WCs or 1-tags. If you're pushing for records you need to do a lot more, but I really have only seen Marco and Gnostek going for that stuff.

This is not a promising opening though, I was definitely > 1k development before this as Hisn Kayfa thanks to some AI favor abuse with Ottomans allowing an Egypt grab.

I've done fine with the Ottomans and France. It's alot harder as someone who doesn't start with a good economic base/ great rulers/ events. My ideas are Admin, Quantity, and Influence.

As AQ you can ally Mamluks day 1 and dismantle the Ottomans immediately. The AE is less than going into Persia and the land is more valuable. In this position I'd go into Persia asap and do the standard expand upstream route for TCs. It looks pretty tough though as you have 200 years left and about 22k development left to take.

Yeah I used my favors to quickly kill QQ and get the AQ achievement then I rushed Otto trust to 100 so that I would know my flank is secure.
Now, having your flank be secure might sound comforting.
But i would not let the Otttomans take the Mamluks land.
As soon as you have abused them enough you should be looking for the first opportunity to betray them.
It sound more like you helped them grow at the cost of your own size and now they are blocking you not protecting your flank.

I haven't really built anything as I spent most of my game time in debt.
And you are behind in tech.
The Ottomans are probably sucking part of you trade money away and you havent managed to secure the Hormuz and Samarkand tradenodes yet.
The area around you east is even richer nowadays. Many early- and midgame peacedeals should give you several 100 ducats each.
Thats way more useful than gettting an extra province. With that money you can start building churches early.

And that is an excellent point. You really want to be able to lower autonomy on 1000 dev of land in 1610. Although WC is still going to be doable at least even if it takes most of the AoA to get max abso.

I don't feel picking Quantity is a good choice - I honestly always feel gated by AE if I don't pick up 2 AE reductions within my first 3 ideas so I always start with
Admin+Influence+Religious or Humanist - standard
Diplo+Religious+Influence - Austria/HRE
Admin+Aristocratic(+policy)+Humanist - Horde

Only exception is an exploration start and those are really rare
