Hello everyone,
I'm planning a game starting at the Old Gods bookmark and I would like to found and lead a merchant republic around Alexandria (because mediteranean sea, red sea and silk road, as well as I hope, the rise of the fatimid and seljuk empires, and later the mongols in the broad region. being near Jerusalem is nice too, for defending against the crusades). This would not be an Ironman game as I'm still learning the game.
At this bookmark, the kingdom including this location is Iqta (obviously ^^), Alexandria's duchy is led by the under-aged son of the local egypt king. However, I would prefer starting as the adjacent duchy in the Est, led by the other under-aged son of this king and taking Alexandria early in the game.
I'm wondering what would be the better way to shift toward a merchant republic from there, preferably quite early.
While I know the easiest way would be to run some commands to transform the existing duke into a merchant republic, I would prefer reforming my government the right way, as I play, if possible.
One plan I came up so far:
- Conquering Alexandria early
- Revoking the city of one of the coastal county of my duchy and put it as county capital
- Giving the county to my heir so that he becomes lord mayor (but not MR yet). (maybe I will need to give him another city before that)
- On succession, becoming MR this way since my lord mayor heir will inherit the duchy
Alternatively: become the king, give the county then the duchy to my heir so that he becomes MR and wait for inheritance but then I should have a kingdom level MR if I understand well... This is nice to take control of the silk road provinces up to the red sea but with the drawback of becoming a MR later (and going for a large realm while my first choice is to go for a small or vassalized realm at least at the beginning)
Would this work?
If not, How to make it work?
Are there other options?
