Introduction
Hey, while playing today, I had an idea of rather different concept of DLC in mind. The DLCs we have thus far can be categorized into two or perhaps three major categories: (1) on the one hand we had DLCs such as the Republic and Horse Lords that introduced a totally new gameplay, (2) while on the other hand we had DLCs that extended and added features to the existing core of the game to this category belong a DLC like Way of Life. Furthermore, (3) in my humble opinion excellent DLCs like Sword of Islam and the Legacy of Rome lie somewhere in the middle.
I found the type the DLCs of the 1st and 3rd type to be the most enjoyable because they presented us with a totally new gameplay and flavor. Nevertheless, DLCs like WoL deepened the core game.
DLC Concept
I would like to propose a new DLC idea that could capture, hopefully, all the dimensions. I had this idea while playing today and browsing through the list of characters. One of the characters had been imprisoned, I wanted to make him a ruler of a barony. Also, I was inspired by the plot of Skyrim where you, the protagonist, start as a prisoner and get f and forge your destiny. On top of that, the character of Zahir from the series Legend of Korra that is granted bending powers and unleashes havoc.
That led me to think about a DLC that lets you start as a prisoner and this is the divergence point of the game. I will propose to possible gameplay styles for this DLC concept.
(1) You start a game and receive an event that you wake up from a noise in your cell in the dungeon. You supposed to be alone, but there seems to be no one around but the voice become clearer and clearer. It tells you it can free from the imprisonment, but at a cost, you will need to murder a certain family to the last kin with a time limit or will die yourself (this is a concept where you need to murder in order to live on and each killing gives you bonuses or maluses, if for example you kill the wrong target). You agree to this offer not fully understanding what you got yourself into, but it is better than rotting in this cell. The voice sounds satisfied and amused and the next thing you notice is that the door is wide open!
You walk outside the cell and the two guards are rushing towards you and receive several alternative options to how to deal with them... you choose to attack the frontally as you feel and are at the moment much more stronger than them. Each killing extends your time a bit longer, but if you kill people you were not supposed to your time get a bit shorter and you get a malus.
(2) You wake up in a carriage with a blurry memory of what happened (in this kind of gameplay you cannot see all the details about yourself right from the beginning, but more details are revealed as the game progresses). You just remember your name, Jubutai of the Kipchak clan, you are carried with others in the carriage and the men leading the carriage are the ones with the burned skin. One of the men notices your gaze, hits your fingers with a wood stick and covers the carriage with a heavy material. When it is finally removed, you see a place that you can hardly believe is real, it is filled with people speaking a strange language and are dressed in robes, while the women are covered from head to toe. You're brought before a bearded man that fondles his long beard and examines you and the others with you. The leader of the men say As-salamu aleyka ya Vazir Azim and the the men bow to him. He nods favorably to the men and tosses a sack filled with coins. The bow and leave. A man that stood beside the bearded man suddenly speaks a tongue that your ears understand and tells you are in Baghdad, the jewel of the world and you will be presented by the the Sulta... the Khan of these people.
Afterwards, you're incorporated into the imperial service of the Sultan you are trained to improve your martial abilities, learn Quran and swear fealty to the Sultan. You have a holding but it is like a house in the republic DLC. The possibilites of such as game are vast: you can lead a rebellion against a decadent son of the sultan; become the shadow/ de facto leader of the sultanate; after your wife is executed by the sultan you swear to revenge her death and send your son to unite the clans of the steppe to destroy your enslavers. Before you or your son execute the sultan there is a dialogue event when the sultan cries for mercy your character says why should we treat you as our equals when you're not equals to us? stabs the sword into the sultan.
