I've noticed something strange with a river in my city. Water level dips quite heavily once in a while and that dip travels along the water current. Dunno what's causing it. Apart from looking weird it doesn't seem to have any impact on a game play. When I test dam power plant the max power output levels match those when the river is normal.

Did anybody else see something like this?

Water pumps draw in water towards it and drains it into the pipe network - Opposite behaviour with sewage pipes.

You wouldn't happen to have a ton of water pumps near each other downstream? If the dam isn't on a river that flows fast enough (i.e. spawns enough water at a time) the dam resevoir will constantly dip below the treshhold for the Dam being able to pump it through.

Or to put it in other words. Dam runs for a few seconds, pumping through water, causes river water to rise below it. Turbines stop, water stops - You now have a wave generator.

Well I don't have a dam (I find in economically unsuitable unless it gets me >450MW of power, solar plants run cheaper), but I was aware that dam do mess with water levels - I've flooded my first city out of existence.

I do however have 8 pumping stations not far upstream from the point where those dips are occurring. Didn't come to me water pumps were also affecting water flow. Simply - WOW.

Yep - The water physics are a pretty cool concept when you get into it. You can even use sewage outlets to add more water flow to your dam resevoirs to squeeze out a bit more power.
