Water drain pipe not operating

Hi there, I've just started playing this game, and have built a water drain pipe. It says 'not operating', even though I have connected it to my water pump and connected it to my wind power.

I've googled this problem for about ten minutes and tried the suggestions I've found, including deleting the pipe and readding it, but nothing has worked.

Is this a bug in the game, or is there something I'm missing?

After a bit of experimenting, I managed to get it working. I think the trick is to have a link from the source of the sewage to the drain pipe, and another line from the pump to the drain pipe.
