Maybe that's the case. But it's easy to see that this feature is something a lot of people want in the game so it's odd that the beta's didn't. I wonder what more they didn't miss that was a feature in HoI2.

There were betas asking for it. about 2-3% of the betas. Which is about 10% of the average request to rename a random province in Russia.

Probably one of the surest proofs a pool of beta-players isn't a pool of average customers :)
But is it really meant to be?

That's weird because the mood in this thread is totally different. But maybe IC doesn't fluctuate as much as in HoI2, especially for Germany. Or the AI can actually be trusted with the handling of production. Meh, we'll see when the game gets released.

Certainly :)

There do exist ways of saving yourself some micro-management without really hampering your industrial efficiency; those do require different philosophies of play and sometimes adapted production schemes, though...

then from all the applicants we basically took random people for the groups.

Not all customers apply to become beta-testers, do they? :)

EDIT - This isn't for the sake of disagreement, I promise :p

EDIT2 - Bringing on the issue of Vicky 2 is plain unfair :D

I was actually asking for this about 6 weeks ago by creating a new forum thread. Wether or not "auto-sliders" was going to be implemented or not.

I didn't even knew it existed in HoI2 as I didn't own any expansions. Most people probably missunderstood me as I didn't call them auto-sliders. But I see now how right I was by requesting them, as they were later implemented in HoI2.

Just crazy to leave them out of a improved sequal of the game.
/facepalm

As a pararell too your new AI-controll strategy -> reduce micromanagement
Removing "auto-sliders" equals -> increase micromanagement
Is this your long term strategy goal? They seam to conflict.

Hope the development team takes this as constructive criticism.

How come that on the forums the percentages are the exact opposite then? A really small part of the forum doesn't seem bothered with the missing auto sliders.
Perhaps you are looking at a sampling bias... after all, people who don't care, don't post.

This could very well be. And to be honest maybe all the slider twitching got improved in the release, we'll have to see. But thinking about the HoI2 slider management makes me really feel sad now, how many hours I've wasted clicking the sliders.

i don't really get the complaint about lack of "auto-slider" etc..

a) If you want to micromanage every detail, you get alerts telling you whenever you are wasting IC, and its a one click to optimise the slider you want to optimise.

b) if you don't want to micromanage and still decide to build, you go into production screen, turn off ai, give orders to build, and turn on again... the ai never cancels current builds, or reprioritises the players queue. the ai will then balance sliders to not waste them.

If lots of people want a separate more advanced system we can always design one, but for that we need input of thousands of customers that have actually played the game.

Were you playing games and reading the gaming press in 1999?

The "historical country sim"/historical grand strategy genre HoI belongs to didn't even exist back then. In any form whatsoever. That's why Paradox immediately catapulted itself into the ranks of respectable game developers.

What is Romance of the Three Kingdoms game series then ? First one was released in 1988. There was quite a few historical grand strategy game before paradox, what new with Paradox is that they focus on real time, while most(if not all) that existed before are turn based.

Ehhh...
How many of us outside the beta has played the game, and know how it works?

We have to trust the Devs and the Betas that actually have tested the game for month.

I think its because HoI2 didn't have "need" buttons. If I understand how these work its a sort of middle ground between no change and auto sliders.

If this feature lock the slider on how much you need and adjust it actively afterwards its almost like auto sliders.

This would reduce most of the micromanagement of the annoying sliders such as Production, Reinforcement and Supplies and enable you to not have to change them often at all.

I trust in the Betatesters and Developers opinions here since they are the ones actually playing the game.
