ok this comparison is maybe unfair. i only play with my leaders. i hunted them down, painted them, coded them - and i usually play germany. so mostly i already know who i want to have for this particular division in this time frame and the AoD sorting function of leaders is rather a rule of thumb. i just found myself faster with that particular system.

Should you ever try to get that project started, count me in. That idea/dream is wandering around in my head for quite some time, too. And while we're at it why not go the whole hog and start at or slightly before the beginning of the bronze age (like CIV). Wouldn't need much more new content than starting medieval, but make the game truly universal and maybe increase the audience. For a language, I'd go with C++ and handle the graphics with Allegro (and some immediate mode OpenGL where convenient). I know how to use these already, and they compile fine on Linux, too. Never used LUA - and I fear that including script languages might send performance to hell (I hope I'm wrong there, though).
i was thinking more the beginning of written time, say around the beginning of 3200bc, and yes i am compiling ideas into a text doc that i can readily send out, but i would rather do this by an email system like google or google docs to better be able to facilitate others to be able to help with the inital and final product with respect to ideas... the actual coding will be done by myself and some others that are interested in making a game that will be a huge grand strategy game... i plan on using C++ and making a game engine from scratch... but to learn to do it all will take time, as will the animations and GLP(?) but i believe the hardcoding of said game will take the longest... i plan on expanding on the total war idea of commanding troops and ships, also being able to directly fund projects in countries, cites, towns, etc just like in real life, see the landscape change like if you drain wetlands you can voom in and see the marshes drain to plains, etc... go inside mines, etc... alot of micromanagement yes, but also have the ability for the engine to do it automatically too for those that like to relax and just like the AI do stupid things lol pun intented there... i am also thinking about with the colonial system actually being able to watch your colonist build forts and setleements etc... this is going to be highly detailed yes, but in affect i have seen that it can be done with various other engines... i just need to be able to make something thats able to take the best from all, Total War's engine, Europa, i forget the name of this new engine... and even sid miers engine... and be able to go from ground up... this has been a dream of mine since 1994 when i was on a AST playing Colonization dos version...

also i am wondering if i should state this idea on the OT forum or some other forum, to see what interest there really is... i wish i knew how to do polls so that there could be a accuarate representation of the populace here that would buy it and also one to show who would help make it and not allow it to be abandoned like most games of old, ie Imperialism, colonization, etc that were the stepping stones for games like EU and Vicky... if i could i would update the new game i plan on working on, when new engine is created, to the newest engine like imperialism did with imperialism 2... or HOI has done with all its various parts... just keep building this game into something that is bigger and badder... "" i just say it as what i plan... i dont know who or how many would contribute to this idea nor how intense it will be lol... the historical and ahistorical outcomes of everything are just enough to make someone cry and i know that... but the outcome would be wonderful...

i just found how to do a poll on this... but idk if it would be good to do as per its a paradox forum...

yes. thats why the last events in AI_ITA were disabled. the ai (independently) made its choice and changed the minister according to its rules, then the event was firing, changing the minister again, then the (independent) ai would change the chief of air again, and again the event would fire. so ITA ended up with some constant dissent.

i made the soviet minister Lazar Kaganovich an Admin genius, so SOV ai will take him in peace times. when war breaks out (eg Winter war vs. FIN) ai takes Stalin as Minister of Armament without event command. if this war is over, Kaganovich takes over again.

so at least for the armaments ministry this seems to work fine. no idea about the hard coded rules for other ministries.

EDIT: you can start a game with lets say switzerland. let the game run for maybe 5 days and check the other governments. a lot of people there will have the clock symbol.

starting to learn C++ right now... learning basics as of right now but its becoming much more interesting the more the complexity of the code goes... well just an update... also i looked at one of my previous posts... you cant talk about making a new game or etc in this forum as per admin from paradox stated... loosely "this forum is for paradoxian games and only paradoxian games, not new creations or etc..." but you can talk about coding in C++ from what i have gathered. so i am concentrating my efforts into learning this code, and then learning it for use in direct X and other applications for rendering...

a note to moderators, i have inquired about the new game consept and etc but didnt get a response until after i made those comments, so please ignore the comments i made before knowledge from an administor... as i was still in process of learning what is allowed on forum and what is not... still in that process but i figure as i go i can ask things and etc... yes i am making special notes to prevent anymore issues with rules or peoples opinions and such...

It's worth upgrading manually. You just need to prevent Steam from verifying the game files, as it will revert it back again. I don't know why the devs haven't updated the Steam version though!

been told it is paradox that is holding it up, not the Devs... paradox isnt releasing the update for unknown reason...

its up to paradox... not the Devs or anyone else... especially steam as steam doesnt communicate directly with Devs like it was with other paradox games... this was a special thing that a few select group of people were allowed to do and it is the Devs that seem to have gotten the hard front of the pact, when it comes to the updating... IDK about the actually contract agreements but i can say that the updating part must be frustrating for the Devs.

I asked paradox once if they where planing to send the 1.8 to steam or gamers-gate they didn't seem very interesting.
