Why would you move your home node to ivory Coast when your control of sevilla will increase and so you can benefit from Spain's colonies? Even if Spain half Asses colonialisation then sevilla will become the most valuable node in the world and so you can get global trade spawn there.
Conquering Mali early on is hard due to the tech not being so different, and as you don't get auto claims you're wasting lots of ADM and dip that could be spent on exploration and then getting expansion unlocked early on.
If not MP then the loans you accrue in the time to past Cape is easily payable once you've taken kilwas centre of trade
When you have 90% control of the trade flowing though Ivory Coast and 50% control over Sevilla, you want to be collecting in Ivory Coast. I don’t know if I would move my trade capital, but definitely collecting there for a good portion of the game if I don’t seize Castille early. and even when I don’t collect there, making sure nobody else is present there siphoning that income is quite valuable.
The few provinces needed to take Mali’s gold mines aren’t going to cost enough Monarch points that it is going to significantly delay you very much. Nor are the various West African tags a challenge to beat with Portugal early. I guess if they did some insane early colonization it could be tougher.
Your main delay to getting around the Cape will be waiting for colonies to finish anyway.
