Was it bad luck, or genious move on the AI part?

PLaying as Germany, I got elected Emperor. Then my heir dies, and a noble from Russia takes the German throne. This is annoying, but ok.

Trouble is... that noble is a woman. With very nice stats for sure, but I lose the HRE throne. Also, she's 21, so she won't die for 40 years. And I can't make her a general and kill her on the battlefield because, you know, she's a woman.

Did Russia do it on purpose? What decides if a nobleman or a noblewoman gets the throne?

Every nation has a pre-defined list of ruler names and each name is assigned a gender. When a new heir or ruler is generated, their name is randomly chosen from their country's list.

I seem to have bad luck with female rulers. At least it's not as bad as in CK2.

The names also have a weight to them, and females are weighted far, far lower than males. It's just bad RNG.

Well I was really really pissed, but I couldn't stop imagining the AI laughing maniacally.

"Sure, Germany. You are my rival and the Holy Roman Emperor? I have the perfect noble to take over the nation! Muhahahahaha!"

Also, I might or might have not have left the HRE out of spite, then when Bar(!) became Emperor, I might or might have not have disbanded the Empire.
