Hey,
after having spent years of my life on EU3, I decided that I would give myself CK2 as a christmas present. After a first trial game, where I learned what I think is most of the game mechanics, I dived in for a second game, where things are going decently. I started on the day after William the Conqueror was crowned king of England, and it is now October 1071.
I have sons married off to princesses of France, Sweden, Norway and a few HRE dukes, and I am in a few wars. The first one is France's with Flanders, where I only sent token forces to clean up the mess, and the war is being won quite decently. My second war is a De Jure war on Lübeck, and everything went fine until they decided to pull heathen Uppland into the war. They were already getting stomped by Sweden and Norway in two separate wars, so I wasn't worried. I sent my main army to occupy them for warscore, and as you can see on the uploaded picture below, I occupy 4 out of Uppland's 6 provinces (Norway occupies the other two), and the capital OPM of Lübeck. However, I am stuck at only 39% warscore, I only get warscore for Lübeck, not the Uppland provinces, and that is a far too low warscore to enforce my claims.

Should I not get warscore for the provinces I have occupied in Uppland?
Or should I negotiate a separate peace with Uppland? In that case, how do I do that?
Or am I just screwed by a game mechanic I just don't get?
Why are some of my occupation lines not continuous? They are on Lübeck and the northern occupied provinces of Uppland, but not the two southern ones. Am I "occupying them wrong" in a way, or does this simply not matter at all?

ck2_2_zpse7ad165c.png

Slightly off topic:
One of my daughters are married off to the King of France (the other to the Prince of Novgorod), but I suddenly thought that it might be a way for them to get a claim on me. Will I have future French King stomp over my puny Danish forces in a generation or two?
Or will we get a weird family feud, since my son and heir is married to the French kings Sister?
And will there be a possibility that my marriage to a Norwegian princess will pay off in the future?

I am playing 1.08 and with the DLCs Sword of Islam and Legacy of Rome, if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

About the warscore, I'm sure the Uppland provinces give you some warscore, but it's really the war goal that's worth the most. In addition, if you keep Lübeck under your control, you will eventually start gaining warscore just for occupying it. Similarly, if the owner of Lübeck could keep the province, they would eventually start accumulating warscore for keeping it under their control. This is to prevent endless wars. However, I'm pretty sure you could end the war faster: if all else fails, destroy the enemy armies, that will give you quite a bit of warscore as well. Usually, in the case of OPMs like Lübeck, destroying the army completely is enough, or if it isn't, capturing one of the holdings is. It may be because of its ally that it still keeps going.

However, you haven't captured everything in Lübeck either. One province almost always has more than one holding (one barony that's the capital of the province, and also other baronies/cities/church holdings), therefore you'll need to do one or two (possibly more) additional sieges in the same province. If you've only captured some of the holdings, the line will be staggered. The line will be continuous if all holdings are captured.

Have you taken controll of the other 2 baronies of lübeck? Normaly if you occupy all of the enemy warscore is at 100%. And looking at your screenshoot the occupation lines are not solid which indicates that you have not sieged yet all holdings in said province.

That's it! YEEES! thanks a lot. I didn't realize that you needed to occupy all parts of the province, for it to work. Lübeck is now part of my realm, and the 5 year war, that should have ended in one is now over.

BTW, my king has just fathered his 11th son and therefore 16th child. Damn, he is breeding offspring like a rabbit.

Biggest difference between EU3 and CK2 is that a single province in CK2 usually needs multiple sieges in order to subdue it. Also, it is not uncommon to have barons in a single county having different lieges and allegiances.

On your off-topic questions: Once the marriage produces kids, look at the the claims they possess. If somehow they have a strong claim, you have a potential problem as strong claims can be pressed in war at any time.

Also, political marriages are mainly for alliances, although you do have the issues of claimants (as you are aware of). It is up to you whether the alliance or the possibility of future claims is more important.

Yeah, I realised that more sieges are required to get the whole province.

I have another question:
On the military screen, I can see the numbers for troops raised/unraised/max total. As you can see, I right now have around 1k troops raised, and 1k unraised. How do I raise those 1k soldiers? (I tend to prefer to not raise vassal soldiers unless I need them, as they lower my vassal's opinion of me). Do I need to disband my soldiers and then re-raise them to get them? If that was it, it would be kind of unelegant.

ck2_3_zpsbe33d281.png

I venture that the "max total" is something that is dependant on my laws passed?

Your levy is either raised or unraised. You can't raise your levy while it is already raised. However, any losses your raised levy takes do replenish, and the next time you raise the levy, they'll be available. So yes, you need to disband a particular barony's levy and then reraise the levy to gain any replenished troops.

The "max total" depends on a number of factors:

A) the amount of troops (your vassals') holdings provide. This can be improved with buildings.
B) Your crown authority or your levy laws, whichever is higher.
C) Your vassal's opinion of you.

When you have Levies raised consider the unraised as reserves
You can march your levies home and disband them then re raise them with the number you had plus the 'reserve' up to the maximum
Basically you dont have the have Levies at home for the umbers to regenerate but they dont reinforce to active levies out in the field
