Wars start too soon in Doomsday

Have you noticed that because of espionage, countries have poor relations and start wars spontaneously?

For example, in my game as Germany, France dowed me in spring 39 and simultaneously Poland broke the non aggression pact and joined the alliance with France and attacked me. My belligerence wasn't high, and in HOI2 this wouldn't have happened.

I was pretty badly pants down at that point.

Earlier in 39 Japan had already dowed USA, but most south american countries dowed Japan (!?), so I don't believe that Japan can win even though USA isn't strong yet.

Some countries have absurd DoWs. e.g Bolivia DoWs Japan when Japan has beligerence of 35. It's worth a laugh !

Mine ? Beligerence 28 as Germany in 39, nobody DoWed me other than the allies, Beligerence 1 as Germany in 1941. But I have seen it happen, anyway for me as I said it's a laugh, non issue. Just like the war not starting, also a non issue, for me.

Incidently, what did you do to get your belligerence up? And how high was it?

I dont remember how high it was, but I "just" conquered spain and saudi arabia, couped Turkey. So nothing fancy...considering that in HOI2 I was able to annex Poland before the allies DOWed me.

The bursting powder keg which caused all this was Japan. I even forfeited the game for a moment when USSR broke the non aggression pact, but at least they didn't dow me...yet. I have 4 armor +about 30 inf in Germany, and Poland is marching forward.
I spent most of the early game building factories and airplanes, so with 26 interceptors and 10 fighters I do have the airsuperiority, but very weak army; full building queues though . Maybe I wouldn't be so weak if I didn't have troops in saudi arabia and in Spain...demanding supply convoys.

And the non agression treaty runs out of it self in '41.

And why the h*** are you in Saudi Arabia? And take Spain after France, that way you will have a clear way to Spain and won't spend precious IC and TC on keeping your army supplied.

Anyhoo, I have seen it as well, like Turkey DOW'ing Japan before Japan is at war with the allies.
Well, there where a lot of DOW's against Germany late in the war (historically), so one could say it was like this .

I like the new intelligence. The smear campaign is very useful, even though the increase in belligerence is not too high. Japan's ueber belligerence caused 1/2 the world and their mothers to DoW them.

Nope, treatys were broken, they didn't just run out.

I'm in Saudi Arabia because of oil, suez and a searoute to vladivostok (after taking Siam). I've already taken Gibraltar, so mediterranean will soon be mine.

And btw, japan has belligerence around 380... so pretty much every nation is in war with it (even Finland DOWed it june 39 ).
But Japan is also doing alright, I hasn't lost a single ship, but has sunk dozens.

Loads of funny things happening in DD compared to a HOI2 game.
- USA keeps smearing me (I didn't think they could do that unless they had spies in your neighbourhood).

- Romania and Yugoslavia is fighting Italy (for dow'ing Greece). Too bad Yugoslavia isn't giving military access to Romania (could perhaps effect the outcome in an interesting way...)

- Japan DOW's Soviet in early 39 (wonder how many troops Soviet keep at their border with me *evil grin*).

i never have early dows if i hold down my feets. only possible thing for me is spain as germany. if i make to much wars they declare war. think its a good thing. and as far as i now: by history the allies declared war on germany shortly after germany attacked poland

Most likely Soviets backed down when Finnish refused to give them territory.
I myself havent seen wars starting too early. Well in my game WW2 strated bit early, when Czechoslovakia decided to resist in partition event and Soviets came in when Germans took Poland before MR pact, but that isn't exactly different from HOI2.

Had a fun game where Czech would not partition and while I (Germany) was taking them over Poland DOW'd me. Then, when I was just starting into Poland, USSR DOW'd me. Very interesting, but this kept my belligerance low so no Allied support for anyone . Barberosa before anything else was nice, the USSR also did not have much of an army, of course neither did I, but taking Moscow was the easiest I have ever had.

The Winter War will not trigger if USSR and Japan are at war.

Is it just me, or do others find it hilarious when somebody finds it bizarre that when Germany officially declares war on Spain that they get DoW'd by other nations?

People ought to remember that the Allies declared war on Germany a couple of days after Germany attacked their FIRST victim... in our case Poland, but it might as easily have been Czecheslovakia, or Luxembourgh... or Spain.
