everytime my atlas makes a headbut because it got hit by a puny missile i die a little bit more, talking about immersion breaking :(.
Think of it as the MechWarrior trying (and failing) to dodge the incoming missile, that might help.

I thought the War Hammer was a 75 ton mech? Well my only source is a Technical Readout on the original Warhammer from 1986. Anyways I really like the look of the PGI Warhammer. If only there was the Crusader mech, in this game, I would be ecstatic.

Just as HBS gave us the Hatchetman and Bull Shark, in the fullness of Time it very well may be up to HBS to craft the Crusade, Stinger, Wasp and Valkyrie too! : )

The Warhammer was 70 tons even back in 1986:

Look, I'll take a Warhammer because it's one 'Mech closer to having Priam Company's primary lance construction in HBS' game. (Now to bug them to add the Valkyrie and Wolfhound.)

It's okay, I often think the Warhammer is 75t also.

With the bonus of the TAG for Energy and Ballistic weapons (+10%), I am so replacing one of the Medium Lasers with a TAG! Even without the Donal's ++ (60 Damage), the Whammy will be a great headcapper (66 for each Standard PPC)! :D

Probably because of the Marauder.
Yeah, the Warhammer definitely gets rounded up to be with the Marauder at times. I think it has to do with having somewhat similar BVs (along with the thunderbolt also, until I learn a long time ago that was 65t).

Well, to be frank: a whole lot is similar with them.

Dual-PPC ovens both of them, check. AC/5 + 2xML or 2xML, 2xSL, 2xMG as backups? Your call.

I'll be in the Thunderbolt, I mean "planetary assault 'Mech", what more need I say? :)

Between the Marauder and the Warhammer I meant, for those following along. :p

That's one of those weird memory hole things because I always mis-remember the Warhammer as a 75 tonner if only because it has so many more (admittedly smaller/low tonnage) weapons piled into it than the 75-ton Marauder.
It's funny that nobody remembers the Marauder as 70 tons, it's always the Warhammer that gets misremembered as 75 tons :)

Anyway it's understandable to mix them up; apart from the very, very different visuals they are more-or-less variations of the same theme:
  • Both are 4/6/0 movement.
  • Both have dual PPCs as primary weapons.
  • Both have dual MLs as backup weapons.
  • Marauder is long-range, with an AC/5 as a secondary weapon.
  • Warhammer is short-range, with an SRM-6 as a secondary weapon, and 2xSL + 2xMG as additional backups.
  • The Marauder is slightly better armoured, 11.5 tons to the Warhammer's 10 tons.
  • The Warhammer is slightly better cooled, 18 heat sinks to the Marauder's 16.
  • The biggest difference is in the engine; the Marauder's engine is three tons heavier than the Warhammer's.
It is kind-of weird in that special BattleTech way that the 'Mech focused on long-range weaponry is the better armoured one :)

I think when he created these mech''s minds have already held omnimech clans ;). They are all sharpened for long-range work and all well armored. Almost have all mechs in Prime Variants is worth 2 ER PPC :)

BattleTech’s Warhammer and Marauder predate the Clans by about 6-years Real Time and their respective 2515/2612 Introduction dates, precede the first OmniMech (2854) by more than 3 and 2 centuries respectively.

The Dual Large Energy Weapon symmetry of both the Marauder, Warhammer, Timber Wolf and Mad Dog (among other Mechs) sure does lend itself to some fun comparisons though. I can’t wait to be able to enjoy HBS’s “take” on that comparison somewhere’s down the BATTLETECH Development Road... I hope!

I'm not really a fan of the PPC and used to mod them a bit to make them useful (just in my opinion, I know there are ppl disagreeing on this) - but lately after a fresh reinstall I got lazy and just refrained from using them at all. I like my mechs to be fairly heat-neutral builds with about a maximum of 20 overheat per alpha to allow JJ use and alphastrikes. PPCs (especially DUAL) just make that somewhat impossible to achieve. With Heavy Metal coming out, I think I'll restart my private "weapons balancing" minimod and use PPCs again, because these 2 Mechs just NEED them :)

While the Warhammer looks like a quite flexible chassis with all its hardpoints, it just HAS to be energy-heavy with the quirk. The Marauder on the other hand, while having a generaly useful quirk you might want to have in your lance, doesn't really offer too much options in this regard. Maybe a 4 LL sniper with the superior called shots, but it just feels kinda wrong to me to remove the PPCs.

With Prussian Havoc's "Rule of Skulls" I can see the Marauder becoming the backbone for my lighter drops, giving bonus protection to my outgunned lance and snipe targets from afar.
