In short: 30k yes, 40k no. SImply because Stellaris is build to be 4x strategy not a rts. Also ther is not nearly 30k mods in the existence at all. It would be a nice change to command legions of The Emperor of Mankind. Oh and Imperium wasn't as xenophobic back then so alliances with aliens can be a thing. Also there's awesome end game disaster: the Horus Heresy...
Also there's bunch of human civs at various levels of technological advancement (from medieval to space age) that you could encounter during the crusade and vassalise/reunite with empire with other less friendly means.

I think it would be nice to have some WH 30k style ships with which to play Stellaris. I'm in fact looking forward to forging the Imperium of man :)

Aye: especially useful since for most of the major factions there is already a wide array of ship models to base it on. Helps too that Chaos and Imperial ships are pretty much equivalent :D

Hi all,

First of all, nice to see this project going, actually one of the first mods I really wanted to succeed. And you guys seem capable of making that happen.Nice :)

While I was reading this, I had an idea you may (or may not) find interesting. I've been playing Total War games lately, and they are nice examples of a flaw many strategy games have: uber-badass units mass-produced in specialist armies with 1 unit type. This does not sound like WH40K... imagine a full Nobz Ork army, or Eldars fielding nothing but Wraithlords. Special units should be in a WH40K game- I mean, who could possibly decide against relic ships from the age of the Horus Heresy (modded oversized ship) or anything similarly badass?

My suggestion is that you should tie these units to special conditions. For example, tie them to those special resources they mentioned in the Dev Diaries, so they would be unique, and precious units. And possibly give them really long recruiting times, and special building requirements, so you'd think twice before letting them die in a pointless battle.

Yes, I know, you are getting way too many ideas to handle, and lots of people like me who just brainstorm but do not write one line of code- if I could do anything even closely related to this, I'd be glad to help- but if you think about it: we already have special resources, special buildings/ships/armies, and the ability to add stuff to ground forces. And you will eventually need a system to prevent heroic unit spam late game. Which is, well, not quite the Imperial Guard, for example.

Thanks for anyone who managed to read it all :D

They are adding back in base building and going to have the largest units they've ever had in the game but also keeping the upgrading and customizing of heroes. Looks like it will be good.
You mean Titans? Because those looked like Warhound class Titans (or possibly Imperial Knights) alongside..... whatever eldar witchcraft that was.

Edit: Also what the hell, they are once again snubbing the Imperial Guard. Those bastards!

They are Imperial Knights from what I know. And yes, no love for the Guardsmen.

That graphic style is a bit iffy for me, units look like toys or smth from Starcraft 2. I would gladly go for the style we could see in trailer.

It's partly about readability. Being able to tell at a glance what's going on isn't really needed in a cinematic, but is absolutely necessary in RTS gameplay.

Also, it's dropping in 2017, I gotta imagine the lighting is pretty unfinished at this point.

True to the extent. It is a design choice more than anything though as if they decided to go with something more realistic there are ways to keep tactical situation clean.

My dream W40K game would be something a la Total War. Hundreds of Space Marines, thousands of guardsmen. Not in this decade though.

Depending on how Total War: Warhammer pans out, they may decide to tackle W40k. Though given CA tends to wait at least two years before rolling out a new game, and they have announced intentions to add at least two major expansions to Warhammer, we may have to wait untill at least 2020 to bring the Hammer of the Emperor down upon his enemies :(

Given the fact that there is no limit on the size of custom made galaxies, will this mod have a galactic map with more than 1,000 solar systems?

I think a map with more than 1,000 solar systems fits the WH40K setting better because the setting is filled with factions that are already strained to their breaking point. In Stellaris terms, this would be represented better by a huge galaxy map with dozens of large empires, rather than a regular-sized galaxy with a mixture of large, medium, and "tall" empires.

A galaxy with more than 1,000 solar systems also solves the problem of how to represent small factions, like individual Space Marine chapters and Eldar Craftworlds. They could be represented by empires that are "tall" in regular gameplay terms, but compared to the above-average-sized galaxy map they would seem very small.

Just one question. How are you guys gonna have the God-Emperor appear as he was in a stasis on the golden throne. Will you focus on the current timeline, or on the previous when the God-Emperor was actually walking about leading navies and armies.
