You're not the only one who thought that tbh.
But then again i find war tedious in all strategy games... so i'm very biased in your favor here.
Especially since the features i look forward to the most in Stellaris is things like exploration, anomalies, uplifting&englightening, genetic engineering of species, research, et cetera... so war is not exactly my forte

For me, it was mostly the way the map works... having to zoom in and out of the galactic map to system maps seems horribly unintuitive

Maybe im a fanatical peaceful species ;) hahahaha

I suspect it appears that way in large part because you aren't playing. Wiz is playing on the fastest speed, and is very rapidly zooming in and out of various systems which can get very disorienting if you aren't the one doing it.

No it's more the fact that the shift between system map and galactic map is a button press at the bottom of the screen and not an automatic shift via zoom level (à la "Hegemony 1&2&3") that i really despise with a passion

The build-up to war is usually more fun the than actual wars in paradox games. That being said, there seem to be more strategical possibilities in Stellaris compared to CK2 and EU4, with fleet set-up playing a central role.

IDK about you, but I definitely had fun today.

I really enjoyed the stream today. Even with the lag the space battles looked amazing.

As peace is not yet concluded, I hope you'll take out some of those Outposts to the South to help clear a path to Sol next time

To me it looked a bit repetitive.... jumping from a planet to other and landing troops....
I really didn't realize all these tactics that you are talking about
I suppose that's why I'm asking what you were looking for, because of course war in a GSG like Stellaris consists of managing your fleets, jumping them between systems, engaging enemy fleets, and attacking planets. What more could it consist of?

You aren't commanding individual units or anything, the excitement and tension comes from managing the broad strategic picture.

Yeah exactly... which would be much faster to do with just "scrolling up" instead of having to navigate my mouse to the opposite end of the screen from all the other UI stuff every single time i want to leave a system

Think of the fidelity you will get if you play on the slower pace and paus allot to access the situation.
It will be dead easy to set up rading parties and lone scouts to find the weak tagets. Planning invasions and feigned attacks etc...

I think that war in the game seem to be very fun from a strategic point of view.

I'm sure you can hotkey it, if it isn't already.

It just seems to me like such an unnecessary change from previous titles, additionally i almost never have my hand on my keyboard when i play Paradox games since they usually lack any meaningful keybindings, having to move over to press that key every time would take even longer.

I was a little worried about the time the overall war seemed to take, but it might simply be the nature of two-front wars against people you can't slaughter immediately.

Still, 10 years seems a little bit much for only four planets. Colonisation first and foremost, then war, seems to be by far the most sane and sensible policy.

Well they did put it in space, so that already necessitates some changes from previous games.

Systems aren't static blocks like provinces in EU, they are closer to mini-maps of their own in which units can freely move in 2 dimensions. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a performance or hardware reason not to make it a analogue zoom in.

In any case, if you literally can't spare a fraction of a second to hit one button, you need to play on a slower speed.

I'll reserve judgment about the war mechanics until I get to play. With EU4, the after the war spoils was always more enjoyable to me than sometimes uneven tactics of war.

Don't you think we can just double click on systems, should be pretty easy to add otherwise.

I really liked it. Barring lag, wormhole spamming and a bit of confusion all probably down to the fact that it's still undergoing heavy tinkering, it looked very promising. Mainly, the AI seemed like it was up to something. The fact that it can use different overarching strategies made it feel more like a thinking entity than nations in EUIV. Differing FTL tech and the fact that you're in space seem to make wars a lot more fluid too. I think it looked very exciting.

Battles are a lot less involved, but, really, none of us are here for commanding individual battles and compared to previous PDX games there's a lot more going on graphically to let you know how things are going - more than just a red slider and a lot of numbers.
