News Update 04/03/2009
For a number of months, work on the mod slowed right down; but the good news is that I am picking up speed again and the mod is progressing well right now. Some crucial work in the western portion of the map is being done right now. This means event pools to try and protect the neutrality and sovereignty of the small nations like Redding and HUB, along with some AI file revisions. As always, tweaks and improvements are done here and there as other work is being done.

So, it's time to start thinking about a target date for the next release. Given my real life commitments and how long I estimate it takes to do the various tasks for the next release, I am aiming for end of June.

Release 0.4 will be another significant step forward for the mod. It will be more polished in that all the HOI2 default unit names will be replaced with names appropriate for the background plus more work will have been done on some nations, leaders, and other nation specific content. Play balance should be more refined along with some new strategic challenges and more interesting AI settings. There will be a number of fun new nations and new technologies to play with. There will be blank regions on the map which you can send units into to explore for riches at your peril. And if I have enough time, I'll open the Pacific and/or Carribean as promised for the first cut of the mod's naval game.

I hope that people still try Fallout's Doomsday and play it even after HOI3 comes out. I personally find the mod fun and it certainly has had a phenomal amount of work put into it as a complete conversion of the normal game. We should not even be using a version number of 0.3, 0.4, etc as it's quite polished and playable as is. But I've always had in mind that Release 1.0 will be the final complete product I am happy to walk away from and bring this massive hobby project of mine to a close.

I'm looking forward to HoI3 and I hope that as much as posible of the mod will be transferable to the new engine, as I'm sure it will provide strong modding features.

Yes from what we have seen, it would be possible to make a even better fallout mod with all the new functions. ;)

I don't see that it will ever happen. I hope HOI3 will be a more powerful game for modders. I simply just don't have it in me to do the conversion, no matter what features it has. It would take way too many hours. I aim to finish the mod to what I can achieve by the end of this year and that's it.

Well, OK :)

Anyway in my current game the Spider Nation (or what is it called) has some some 70-80 units, which I find as too much. OK, they are not aggressive, but I can't imagine they would be able to feed such large population.

One thing could be also cool: More news from the world outside America. Like from Europe. I would imagine Europe would be not so much damaged by the war, but maybe Atlantic is so poisonous, that travelling is unsafe. Maybe even a something like EU post for trading (a virtual country?). But after reaching a certain level of technology.

Just some ideas.

Would Europe have even been nuked? After the oil went up the EU spilt up into a bunch of small states squabbleing over the last resources, not exactly a primary target. I'm sure there were a few dropped there, not to mention climate effects, but what would be the end result?

The same result as in NA i suppose, but with not much to almost no ghouls and mutants.
Some big totalitarian organization would have taken over europe and enslaved everyone too.

I'd certainly wellcome some new approach, not typical post-apo US view of Europe as being totally wiped in the same way as US and/or being one totalitarian state. (Only the great brother USA being a beacon of democrazy!)

The Soviet Union (yes, Soviet Union, according to F3 canon, it never fell) was neutral (but it could've been Pro-Chinese) during the USA-China war, so no, not all the countries in the world were involved, but a massive nuclear war CAN cause several collateral damages.

I mean, there's radiation clouds... and Alistair Tenpenny from F3 emigrated from Great Britain to the US Wastelands, so go figure how much flucked up is UK, or Europe for that matter.

Still, it's better to keep the Fallout mod to NA, or at least, for now.

i personaly think it would have been a target not for nukes but for invashon forces from both sides due to the amount of uranium we have i was tolled it was 46% to 49% of the worlds uranium so that would be intresting

Interesting idea to have Australia invaded and not nuked. I like it. And yes, there would definitely be savage, mutated drop bears. Don't let that dopey koala dozing in the gum tree fool you. He's just lulling you into a false sense of security till you get in range!

P.S. There are no serious plans to expand the mod overseas much. The Pacific will get opened a bit, and I've toyed with the idea of adding New Zealand.

I wonder how much further I'll get with this mod project. Progress is slow as I have other things in my life. And I recently created some game crashing bug which is taking a lot of effort to find. I'd like at least one more version, the promised release 0.4, then we'll see how things stand.

Why not to spare Australia? Make it a great trading partner. And represent it in the mod by a trade post (an island?).
Nobody wants to invade it, because others could bomb it to pieces.

I have a question.

HoI 3 is coming so, are you thinking of continuing the project in HoI 3? I understand that you have a life and there's a small chance, I'm just asking out of curiosity.

Oh, and adding Australia would be great. It would be even better with some Mad Max easter eggs...

No. Sword will finish the current version, then after he is concerned that the mod is fully playable, he'll leave it. There will be no HoI 3 conversion unless we do something ;)

Yep that's pretty much it, good ol'Sword is busy and tired
I won't be converting since I have to bring my own project to life soon but if someone start the preoject I can surely lend a hand from time to time
