hehehe There could be some really fun events written about reactors if there are event triggers that can detect if you have one in a province. I will look into it.

I have tonight finished the event pool for the Slavers' Guild. The powerful organisation dominates the slave trade throughout the Wastelands and offers some powerful benefits as well as some penalties to member nations.

The benefits are in extra income from slaving, major slave markets where you can buy or sell manpower, and the ability to hire famous mercenary bands, a militarily powerful option in the early game but still useful in the mid game.

The penalties are in slave revolts.

The member states of the Slavers' Guild are: The Huns, The Vipers, Mexican Raiders, New Reno, Caesar's Legion, the Junkers of Junktown, and Den holds the Guild headquarters and gets a slice of guild profits. All nations bar Den must regularly pay their membership dues, of course.

I will also add some starting treaties for trade and mutual defense for the member states, making it harder to wipe out these dangerous raider groups. All the raider nations conduct slaving missions on their neighbours, which makes them extremely annoying, especially as manpower is at a premium for many Wastelands nations. No manpower, means no new battalions for your military! This is a great strategic dynamic for the mod.

In fact, I am extremely pleased with the play balance and strategic dynamics in this mod. As I've said several times, my test games are all proving interesting and very fun to play.

If you want a mod that is a complete science fiction conversion for Hearts of Iron 2 DD:A, that is very play balanced and has lots of strategic gameplay value, you can't go past Fallout's Doomsday mod! Don't let the fact that the game background is taken from some relatively obscure computer role playing games. The mod's gameplay stands on it own, in my opinion, and there are plenty of events and other text that explain the game world. I find it quite immersive actually, especially with the new intro movie and the game music (I will release new music packs within the week).

There is a nice surprise on our forum: another pre-release Beta-03 version (Beta-03a)! We are trying to have an MP game tonight at 20:00 my time (GMT+10). Nothing beats playing a fun science fiction mod with other human players.

I noticed I made some errors with the recent releases of the mod, where if you did a clean install you would be missing some sprite files, and other miscellaneous graphics. All fixed now in this latest release.

This update has:
- treaties;
- refined AI;
- the remaining tech graphics;
- new unit graphics and names;
- play balance tweaks;
- leader review for some nations;
- minister review for some nations;
- more UI skins;
- Slavers' Guild trading, rebellion and profit events;
- event pool to hire famous mercenaries if part of the Slavers' Guild and at war;
- all army names for all nations done;
- some bug fixes;
- new events;
- minor map changes;
- all sprites updated and working;
(*Edit) - almost forgot, all nations can also be released now.

Great! Now I have something fresh to play these early holidays, I saw "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (for 24th time) yesterday, and I'm coming around with some ideas for an event chain about that religious object that can melt your face away, Yes, of course, I'm speaking about the mythical Ark of the Covenant!

If you have seen the movie, you'll know that the US Government stored it in a giant warehouse, in where I'm sure that it is the fabled Area 51. I'm sure that the American Government could have protected the whole Area 51 as a Vault, or maybe the Area 51 was a Prototype Vault. Well, let's go to the events, first, the basic trigger is that you own the province where Area 51 (supposedly) is, Roswell, and then there's a chance that you find the "Vault-Warehouse", where aside from more artefacts, there's a big box marked "Ark of the Covenant". And then there's the "Miracle of the Ark" event, where by a random chance, either you unlock the power of the Ark, giving you a VERY powerful division brigade, or your expedition suffers the worse of deaths (Facemelting is a must :p ), the Wrath of God.

April was a busy month all around. Caesar's Legion went a slaving against Louisiana. The Mutant's declared War on Vault City. I wonder what the heck for. Mutant's - can't trust 'em is my theory. Around the middle of the month a group of my boy's found a bunch of textbooks and manuals (event). Say they fell off a wagon someplace near the Brotherhood's border. Right.... And my girlfriend isn't really my sister. Do they think I was born yesterday? Geez. So, I turned him over to the brain's and let them at 'em. They were practically drooling over the books and I didn't see no pictures of girlies in there. Wierdo's. But then shortly after that, I said "You know what boys?" And after I shot the nut job who said I should retire, I said "Redding has too many people. I think we need to, uhhhh, liberate some of them. Yeah." They all nodded their heads real fast like, probably because of the smoking gun I was still holding. So, I sent a bunch of goons to "liberate" some people from Redding. Really nice of me I thought (event).

News Update 17/07/2008

Work on the mod continues, a little delayed by real life factors. I can report that new minor nations have been added to the mod, lots of play balancing tweaks, new event chains, and big inroads into providing an updated set of leaders and ministers for every nation.

Some key dynamics have been introduced to the mod in these long months, like the powerful Slavers' Guild and some events for the inter-relationship between the western powers. The Enclave has been tweaked to provide better performance when run by the AI as they will be fashioned into a key threat on the west coast. Beta-03 has been a long time coming but has so much in it compared to Beta-02.

A number of mod fans have been playing a multi player game on most Sundays which has proven to be a lot of fun.

As mentioned, this is a full science fiction conversion for Hearts of Iron 2. I'm very pleased with the polish and play balance of the mod. The latest version is in the first post of this thread, a pre-Beta-03 release. I'm determined to release Beta-03 within the next 3-4 weeks. Our forum contains more regular updates on progress.

I'm having problems installing the mod. I do all of the steps in the installation guide, but when I try to start, the progress bar freezes and I get an error code saying it can't find certain gfx palettes. I have made the shortcut, but am not entirely sure if I have done it correctly, it looks like this:

That's a widely known issue. Change your shortcut to

"C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Copy of Doomsday\Doomsday-FODD\HoI2.exe" C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Copy of Doomsday\Doomsday-FODD\fallout_mod

and it shall work OK.

(be ready! we're going to release full beta-03 in August with lots of improvements and new stuff)

When I do that, I get an error message saying there is a problem with the database. I'm not sure what the problem is, I've tried doing it over again a couple of times and I have installed other HoI2 mods, so it's not like I have no idea of what to do.

OK it looks like something has gone wrong during your installation. Please review this summary of the process outlined in the document included with the mod "Fallout_Mod_Installation.doc".

STEPS
- You make a copy of a clean install of HOI2 DD:A with most recent 1.2 patch. It looks like you've done that from your posts.

- But you do have DD:A with latest patch, don't you?

- You get the mod file and extract them somewhere temporary, including the folder structure. You should see a folder called something like c:\temp\games\doomsday-A with some sub folders under that. Including folders called:
fallout_mod
ai
db
gfx

- You select all these, go to the Edit menu of your Windows Explorer menu and choose 'Cut'.

- You then navigate to your new game folder, go the Edit menu of your Windows Explorer menu and choose 'Paste'.

- This naturally moves all those folders with the mod files inside to the new copy of the HOI2 you made to run this mod.

- You will end up overwriting some of the default files in HOI2 and you should get a prompt telling you that.

- There are screenshots in the installation guide.

- The installation guide document also outlines some natural HOI2 files that you must delete. Refer to the guide document.

- Your shortcut should end up as something like this

Note that this is an example.


Once all this is done correctly, the mod runs with no problem. If you did all the above cutting and pasting and never got prompted about overwriting files then something is wrong in what you're doing.
