So I don't know if this is working as intended or not. Seems kinda weird.
  1. You're able to declare war on your tributaries without granting them independence or them rebelling. Seems a little odd, but I can accept this.
  2. Friendly empires can invite you to start a war on your own tributaries. This is likely are product of 1. Should be changed so they don't make such invitations, since generally you're losing more than you'd gain and you lose opinion with the requesting empire when you decline.
  3. In my current game, if I declare war on any of my tributaries, my vassals (whether loyal or disloyal) will automatically join on the same side as the tributary. My other tributaries don't care, just my vassals. This seems the oddest and most likely to not be working as intended.
If it makes any difference, currently using the Feudal Society civic.

Haven't tried a tributary game yet... my last game ended with psi acension-species bug and self-purged a quarter of my founder species pops before I was able to finish my war to get a tributary. :(
sad to hear it is still buggy/weird
Hopefully on the list of things they are going to fix in 1.82

The vassal thing is really odd and probably not WAD, but a tributary isn't a subject properly. They are still independant, just paying you protection money to not be hit by you (and if you DoW them, well, you lied).

By this logic we should be able to declare a war on anyone no matter what treaties we have.
I would love to be able to DoW in exchange for a large penalty for trucebreaking, but we don't have that. Doesn't mean any less that you can't extract a tribute from someone and then take their land when you're tired. It's actually a common happenstance in history.

While I agree with this, it does seem odd that this is the only instance were you can do this sort of backstabbing.

I had loaded (for V1.8.2) a V1.8.1-beta-game with some V1.8.1-beta-mods, but I was also able to declare a war against my own subjects.

I was also able to declare war on my vassal in 1.8.2, despite text in the declare war button tooltip (both on diplomacy screen and in the war demands screen) that says "You cannot Declare War on a Subject" or something like that in red letters.

I can confirm this as well. Went all the way through the war demands screen and actually declared war on one of my vassals. Said war actually started, and my other vassal joined with the original vassal. It's broke.
