The War of the Triple Alliance, also known as the Paraguayan War, and in Paraguay as the Great War, was fought from 1864 to 1870 between Paraguay and the allied countries of Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. It caused more deaths than any other South American war and particularly devastated Paraguay, killing most of its male population. (just a quick wiki info for those who arent familiar with it)

I think i read in one of the Dev diary or somewhere around the forum that there will be historical events such as the american civil war. Or i read it did happen in Vicky 1, or im just wondering if it will happen...

welll anyway...if historical events do happen (such as american civil war and WWI), is anything planned for the War of the Triple Alliance?

Or maybe there will be story driving decisions like HoI3 to guide us to certain events

anything? anyone? :D

I think the main goal of the Dev's in Vic2 is, correct me if I'm wrong, avoiding these kinds of historical wars and instead giving the game ahistorical, but plausible wars that fit in the context of the campaign you're playing.

We are not going to force wars. We even want the ACW to be avoidable, but difficult to do.

I just hope Vicky2 will not be sandbox like Eu3 and HOI3 because I don't like that at all. A forced war is something entirely different but events which bring you close to crisis and war are important.
Of course as a human player playing Paraguay you will never make the stupid descisions the president made (or actually his prostitute wife) but it would be good if those are forced upon you by the game, or hard to avoid.

And a being able to select between Sandbox/Historical events in the settings menu would be great.

I think the idea is that if circumstances in the game are similar to those of real life, then you'll usually see similar historical outcomes. If Argentina and Brazil find common cause against a militaristic, industrialising Paraguay in the 1860s-70s, then you'll see the War of the Triple Alliance or something very like it.

That said, as someone who will likely be playing Paraguay as one of his very first games, I'll be going out of my way to avoid the War of the Triple Alliance if I possibly can :D But by the same token, Argentina and Brazil will be highly suspicious of my intentions by default, forcing me down a similar path to the one Solano Lopez attempted to take.

What if I endorse slavery as USA, will North cede or I will become CSA and cede myself?

Wouldn't the North becoming the CSA be more realistic?

EU3 with HT3 is not really a sandbox anymore.

You're a democracy. I think it's unlikely you'll be able to have a massive amount of control over the citizenship policies of your parties, or stopping POPs voting for anti-slavery policies.

For me personally, for a game such as Victoria, I would prefer a sandbox style system such as that with EUIII. Which means historical similar situations can occur but allowing the world to be different to the one in OTL. I think Paradox have hit the nail on the head quite nicely with Vicky 2.

For HOI3, a sandbox system was not the way to go. But in a long time frame such as Victoria, it would certainly be a good system.
