WAR IV: Blood and Gore

We have to decide on a few things.

I would like to do Ryoken's 1492 again, but another one could be interesting too, whatever the group wants. If we continue with MT, I will insist that degradation be done after every session. We need to decide whether to keep DPS at 5 land/naval also. The no alliance rule seemed to work well last time, so maybe we should keep that. One more thing, how about changing times? Lifford can't play on Tuesdays, so maybe we should move to Wednesdays to accomodate him, and play earlier, like 7:30(and actually show up at that time ) or even 6:30 EST.

I think a Holland would be fun, maybe if it could be edited in early? I dont have a lot of experience with it.... so i would just like to toy with the idea.

A 6:30 would be good too in my opinion

7:30 will probably be the best, not even sure the Pacific Time people will even get home by then. We should shoot for that I think, and actually try to show up then.

I would like to play France or Sweden--France would be my first choice.

You know that I am not fond of the MT rules, so I will leave it at that. No human alliances seemed to work quite well, and I would like to retain that.

Since we are always eventually pressed for players, we should concentrate on the 8 or 9 main nations, and leave the minors to their fate. Don't forget Poland, as it is actually an extremely important nation in the early game, and often has unexpected influence. With Brandenburg, that would be 9 nations.

My opinion is that Portugal and Venice are absolutely useless and have little or no effect on the game, regardless whether played by humans or left ai--little difference in the end (except in both highly unusual circumstances, AND in the hands of an expert colonial and naval player--witness the Portugal of Bocaj in the recent past-but also noteworthy for being so unusual--even a good player needs some unusual happenings to make anything out of Portugal)

Denmark is essentially doomed when there is a Sweden, and spends the game in a permanent state of survival mode--it is either kept artificially alive, or the Danish player gets pissed off and quits when he is crushed by Sweden.

Of the other minors , only Holland has any chance of influence. So for the 8th spot the choices would be either Holland, Brandenburg, or Poland.

I would let people play with their sliders as they wish. I agree that we should move to Wednesdays and pick up Lifford--he can't play any other day.

If someone asked me nicely, I might be inclined to add a "Early Dutch" option to my scenario so that the Dutch exist as a vassal of Spain in 1492. Ahistorical, true..... but could be good for MP.

You should know that...

1. Dutch will be selectable regardless of whether the option is on or off. That is because options are defined AFTER the country selection. So dont be a dumbass and select to be the Netherlands with the option off. You will crash and your peers will laugh at you.

2. Due to the inability to "nest" the option statements, I cannot give the new Dutch nation the same options as other nations. Thus the dutch may need some kind of manual alteration if you choose to go with extra cores, extra cultures, or other similar options. I tried to give them a balanced setup regardless of your option choices, but it is not perfect. For example, they have Aborigin culture (which you can make unavailable for the rest of Europe) but that shouldnt be an issue since if they are the only one with Aborigin, hey no problem. But I gave them cores on the Caribbean islands to spice things up, despite that you may choose to not give extra cores to other colonial nations. There is no easy fix for this, use your own judgement.

So, are wednesdays not good for anyone?

I think Bel is the only one on pacific time here, and since he can make it at 6:30 EST, that time would probably work out. It might make it possible for some more Europeans to join/sub too, and more convenient for Dago, so lets try it.

I agree on settling for 8-9 nations. A ninth even is really unnecessary. If we have an overflow of players wanting to join, we could allow one but otherwise we're fine with the first 8. And NL, Poland and Italy are nice zones to fight in, aye.

My impression is that most people like the MT system. It did lose its effect in the end game, but with more degradation it will work as designed.

TAF, you don't want to lock land/naval sliders at 5, and I do. It's kinda funny because your preference is less advantageous to France, while mine is less advantageous to England . But anyway, we don't need it. Consider it scrapped unless someone decides to revive the idea before game time.

Double-check with Dave Lifford on the 6:30 EST time. I thought he had trouble in one of the Wednesday series we played getting home that early, but I may have been mistaken.

As far as Lady Europa, I think Portugal or Denmark would be good places for her, as KJ has said.

The above assumes Lifford will be playing. I hope he can.
