I am playing USA in the grand campaign. I just went to war with mexico and sweeped them to test out my troops. During the war I refused to join the allies. They kepted asking, but I was going to join after the war. Now the war is over I annexed Mexico, now WTF!

The allies will not even grant me miltary access, and my War Entry Level is -50% and still lower!

What is the point of this game if you can not go to war or do things that are slightly unhistorical? You almost need a history text beside you so you can be sure to do things properly so you can play the game.

The point is that you have to work with what you're given. There are very good reasons for why you have a war entry level of -50 as the US. The US was VERY reluctant to go to war until VERY recently. Historically, the US only went to war when they or their interests were directly attacked.

Each country has to be played differently. If you want the US to join the allies, then you have to work QUIETLY to raise the entry level, just as FDR did historically. I take your point about doing unhistorical things, and I agree, to a certain degree, but the US going to war with anybody without being attacked is a bit more than "slightly" ahistorical :)

That's not a shock really. in Eu2 I would attack anyone I felt like. I mean I would expect the same form this game too. It will have consequences of course, you might have to take out anyone standing in your way, of course the game will probably end if you attack the allies and defeat them, I think the game should continue on no matter what.

But this is a WWII game and not a World Conquest game.

There is a major difference between the two. If your hope, as the US, is to conquer the globe you are playing the wrong game.

Um, You did do some thing VERY unhistoric, so obviously you can.
Did you want to be able to do what ever you want without consequenses. In EU2 you had BB rating to check aggression.

That's not my hope, but it is fun to be able to do that. The thing is it is almost always not very challenging to do so. I know that I can modify it easily to be done, and will do so.

My real interest is playing the minor nations in their roles in the war. But it's never fun to have to follow the historical happenings exactly, you have to shack it up a bit. If I played the same game with the same result over and over I would hate it.

To prevent people from behaving in totally ahistorical ways, the penalty to a Democracy DoWing a Democracy is a huge hit to its war entry level.

Think of it as a big sign that says "Don't do that."

Yeah, I noticed they added that in the patch v1.01, you take a huge hit in entry level for doing that. You should stage a coup to make them communist first or facist or something, the DoW on them.

I think this kind of acts much like BB did in EU2, but I'm sure you can find a way around it to spice things up if you like.

Uh, it all depends on your definition "slightly unhistorical."

For the USA to invade Mexico in a naked war of exapansionist aggression in the 1936 - 1948 timeperiod is about as plausible as Stalin waking up one day and ordering the conversion of the Soviet Union to a free-market democracy. Sure, it *could* happen, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for the allies not wanting anything to do with you afterwards, that's completely reasonable -- after all, you've just proven yourself as much a threat to "Democracies" as Hitler or Tojo. As for "support for war" dropping, that's completely reasonable as well. Declaring war on Mexico would just about split the country apart at its seams, and afterwards, like the U.S. after Vietnam, you'd be as likely to get a majority of the electorate or Congress to approve foreign military action as you would be to get them to vote to outlaw baseball.

The game gives you options to change history -- within broadly historical parameters. The U.S. is this U.S. is the U.S.; you can try to make it into something else, but don't be surprised if nobody trusts or likes you, at home or abroad. If you want to conquer the world militarily, play Germany, Japan or the Soviet Union.
