New features in Utopia are cool, but fixing the lame diplomacy is very important. It would be very disappointing if this mess will be overlooked once again in favor of Dyson spheres and Shroud.
So, first an example. Thats what actually happened in my game:
1. Xenophobe FE awakened near me.
2. I had no choice but to accept thralldom, becoming subject.
3. They fought a war and 'awarded' me with liberated planet of defeated enemy. I became guarantor of independence of the liberated planet leeching influence. And as a subject I can't revoke the guarantee (which is strange at best!)
4. They later declared war on the planet, they recently liberated dragging me as a guarantor into war against them, which is ridiculous amount of fun as I have no adequate fleet to defeat AE. I can't propose peace as I'm not the primary defender. Unlike EU I'm not in control of war on defense side, despite being two orders of magnitude stronger then 'primary defender', so I will have to fight till the bitter end, unable to somehow negotiate a peace.
Every single feature that is working as designed, but the entire design is buggy.
At least we need to remove the restriction on revoking treaties by subjects. Even better - allow more flexible peace negotiation. Claiming things that were not in war goals initially and secondary participants to negotiate peace for their own.
