This mechanic I can see was included to encourage wars or something? But it has a lot of oddness to it that needs to be tweaked. Case in point- I just got one province bordering Austria and they immediately canceled my military access which I had just gotten to invade Venice. This makes no sense, because Venice has far more provinces bordering Austria- several of which are Imperial provinces- yet allows Venice access because they apparently don't want or care about Venice's many provinces bordering them- no, they specifically need this province that I have.

The vibe it gives me is the same vibe as in the original Rome: Total War (haven't played the new one) where whenever you would border anyone they would always want to attack you, forcing you to expand and come into contact with more factions which would in turn also want to attack you- resulting in a never ending war of expansion.

That and also encouraging AI to fulfill its historical destiny (railroad the historical rivalry) through missions. The same was in my Novgorod game. High trust after supporting independence of Sweden. Almost 200 years of unbreakable under alliance ended after they got "recover Finland".
