Greetings, mechwarriors!
As you might know, there's this elusive AKSoundEngine.dll related bug that we haven't been able to recreate in-house. We are very aware of the issue though, and to be able to fix it we need to get in touch with people who are actively experiencing this issue.

Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, please DM me your email adress so I can put you in touch with the studio. Participants will receive a reward of their choice between the upcoming DLC or some sweet, sweet swag.

Thank you!

Edit: To make it more clear, the bug in question is the one in this bug report:

Could you give some details as to the nature of the bug for those of us less tech savvy?

Are you referring to the odd bug that comes when using the Raven and ECM, where suddenly you start getting random explosions sounds and such?
No, this is a long-standing bug that has been present since... well, long before Urban Warfare.

Here's a bug report on it from Dec. 25, 2018: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/battletech-aksoundengine-dll.1141662/
In there, there's a workaround that works for some: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ksoundengine-dll.1141662/page-3#post-25108418
And here's the devs reaching out on Feb. 27, 2019 saying they know about the bug but can't fix it in time for the 1.5 update: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/aksoundengine-dll-crash.1155872/

Bishop,

The Raven/ECM sound loop bug is universal, and hopefully HBS is already working on a fix. It is, however, totally unrelated to the aksoundengine.dll bug, which apparently makes BattleTech not run at all.

Cheers,

Mad

Can't wait to see who figures this one out :)

Ah. OK, never had it. But this why for us Plebe non code writing types, clarification is good! Cheers!

@MissDeliana

Ask the users with this issue to try installing the full version of C++ redist. I cannot recreate the issue to check it resolves it myself:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

This resolved the exact same issue in other games that use WWise since the 2014 version, according to my research on the subject.

Example here:
https://hinterlandforums.com/forums/topic/5297-black-screen-on-startup/

I hope this helps.

Thank you Edmon, I will make sure to forward that information to our devs! We do still need people whoa re experiencing these crashes though, to see what we can do on our end.

I've experienced this crash both unmodded and modded many times in the past.
Having started playing again, I also encountered this just yesterday (Roguetech).
I don't intend to play unmodded a whole lot any time soon, but I'm happy to supply any error log files as needed.

Just out of interest, do you have two sound cards? PC with a sound card and onboard sound for example?

I am having an AKSoundEngine.dll issue that has only cropped up in the past month but is now causing my game to crash about every mission.

1. Email to MissDeliana for crash reports.
2. Is the "hide the sound folder files" still a viable workaround in the world of Urban Combat?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Walk Worthy

Problem happens almost every mission with vanilla game sound files, while playing them.

Deleting or replacing them works buttt the problem is - mods require sound files to present to work properly.
No problem with deleteing sound files in vanilla game so far.

I've had this crash on a 7 year old PC and a brand new mac. A unifying feature to both crashes is that I've also been playing audio with firefox when the crash occurred. It's beyond my abilities to test whether this might be at fault but it makes some sense to me that this might be a factor in your inability to recreate this in house. I'd be interested if anyone else has seen a similar thing?

Been having the same issue. Now its beginning to be really bothersome. Crashed halfway through the long hunt. Now have to start all over. wish the game would autosave on consecutive deployments at least

Have recently reinstalled Windows 10 and then added a clean install of 1.8 and sound bug I used to have has disappeared.

Extreme but it worked. Makes me wonder if there was an update along the way which caused the problems but no idea on what update ir might be.
