Hi, I'm playing a LAN MP game as Switzerland, it's fairly early on in-game (1440's, government tech 8), I remember from other games that a few republics change to Republican Dictatorships later on, basically my question is this:

If I wanted to change my government type to a monarchy can I do that? If the answer to that is yes, when and how could I do that??

All advice/help is appreciated. :)

Here's the wiki's diagram of governments.

There are a couple of ways you could become a monarchy. You could wait until government tech 18 and switch to Administrative Monarchy. I believe you could also create a COT in your capital, adopt the Merchant Republic Government through decision, and then switch to Feudal Monarchy, which you should be able to do at tech 8. Both of those switches will give you a stab hit of -4.

Thanks for the diagram Crater, i'll try to get my head around it.

Thanks for the tip chgrogers, i'll keep it mind but tbh i'm not sure if i'd favour that option.
Changing from Adm. Republic to Merchant Republic to then Feudal Monarchy might be my best bet even though creating and maintaining a CoT in my capital might prove interesting/challenging. (I currently have 3 on the Mercantilism vs Free Trade slider and have the 25 active merchants i'd need to make the MR decision)

I just want to have to option of being elected emporer of the HRE. :D

You can't submit to a pretender , you'll have to let him win. (and hope there isn't any unwanted rebel group at that time as you'll give in too)

Good enough reason not to let the rebels run wild I think. I can always hold off, benefit on the +10% Trade Efficiency and wait 'til later on to change to monarchy.

Unless anyone else has different suggestions?? (My only ally which is controlled by a player is France if that helps)
