The OP has a point. But still, since I haven't had any too big problems with my version of the game, (exept the fact that you can't demand provinces from another nation) I'm happy just how this game is. Actually, I was happy just for the 1.0 version.

yes the Channel Islands is a nice expample of the problem, but we also have several invasion saved game with huge stacks kicking about. Trying to fix the problem generically instead of specifically.

It is my understanding that this "superstack" issue is what is causing my game to freeze the time once we get to late 1940/early 1941. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is the only industry that can get away with putting out products that don't work, at least here in the States. Can't imagine anyone else being allowed to sell a product that doesn't work when it is bought and that you'll have to wait four or five months before it might be fixed partially.

I am seriously considering starting a letter writing campaign to my elected reps to get some kind of oversight of this business. Something I would hate, because that could lead to issues of censorship. Common in thses forums, but who wants someone telling you what kind of game you can or can not play?

But I really think something that drastic may be necessary to shake up this business. The companies have copyright protection, so they think they can get away with anything. By the way, have you ever TRIED to take a game back to the place you bought it for a refund?

According to what they communicate they will hire professional quality control staff who would do their beta tests.
They hopefully learn from their mistakes.

This is indeed great news. I think HOI3 as a concept was very good, but implemented very poorly so far. This is even worse than a mediocre product implemented poorly, as the concept attracted people with demanding standards, and the shock has been even greater.

Let us wait and see. Perhaps in a year the whole dissapointment has been forgotten and HOI3 becomes the best WWII strategy game out there.

I think HOI3 as a concept was very good, but implemented very poorly so far.

This. (tough i'd change was to is, the concept is still very good)

And I highly prefer it this way then the other way round, despite the bad start they all have (I still dont think the state of hoi3 at release was that much worse than hoi2)
(seriously consider how simple hoi2 was compared to 3 and how bugged and crashy and slooow it was at release, hoi3 is still over all "buggier" but i think on a percentage scale they wouldnt be that far apart)

they all become games you will play for a very long time, there are so many features to try out, ways to play, not even counting multiplayer....
I also don't mind that you "need" mods to play them, I usually play mods anyway ^^

compare them to "savely" designed games, and compare the number of hours you spent with them

I think for most of us its clear which games we prefer

I have to admit I have been playing paradix games since EU1 and the original HIO and the release quality has always been a bit below the market average. For a time I considered this to be a strength, the degree to which the early games developed along lines players wanted to see the game improved.

As time wearson releases are frankly shoddy and incomplete and I am growing extremely wearisome of hearing excuses like, strategic Ai is difficult. If you cant do it then get out of the strategy games market.

It is true that no-one else makes games quite like paradox, and I love the huge scale and strategic element. But I am sick and tired of paying for expansions only to hear 'this is where we wanted the game to be'...

I never bought a couch to be told some time over the next year we will replace the foam in the cussions with stuff that actually offers comfort. Stay active on our forums for foam updates...

Thats true, but then again they dont bring their expansions out two or three months after release, then maybe another one 9 months later and then start to prepare the sequel ;)

what i mean is they spent a lot of time polishing their games and if after a year they need some income and put out an expansion I'll understand it, it only means the game lives longer :D

(seriously not meant as criticism Bill, i agree with you, but its a thing to consider)

Consider me a sucker if you want, but I hope the next HoI game tries to make another dramatic leap like HoI 3 did from HoI 2. I don't want to play the same game ad nauseum. So it's not a polished product. So it doesn't work the way I want it to. Heck, I can't even play a complete game yet without getting too aggravated to continue. But I'd rather have that than have the same old -- at least as long as Paradox or modders continue to tinker with the product.

Like your carmakers or banks or anything else were better.

I drive a car off the parking lot and it stops a couple of times I get to take that baby back and take my money somewhere else. Haven't had that happen yet.

I don't know anyone that had money in a savings, checking or money market account that lost money from the banks. A lot of debt holders, but if you are going to buy risky mortgage instruments, that is the chances you take.

I'm don't know anything about Polish products, but I still wouldn't throw stones at them.

This is totally OT, but I just can't resist: 140 banks failed in 2009, and if you happen to have more than $250k in a savings account, well, tough luck. I had 2 banks collapse under me over the last 2.5 years, although luckily I wasn't affected.

I guess when start talking about the FDIC in a thread it is safe to assume that everything that possibly can be said about this topic has been uttered more than once.

I rest my case.

I was directed to this thread regarding a question about the release of 1.4.

Sorry, I'm not going to even begin to read through 30+ pages of posts.

Somewhere in here King talks about 1.4

So if you had a question, there is most likely some sort of answer to it.

If it was "Is 1.4 coming out? Or will 1.4 be focused on improving the AI? Or will 1.4 have more optimizations to help my game run faster?"

Then the answer is "yes". :)

I think this thread has done a fairly good job of keeping some comments in one place then a new negative thread every day.

I have had HoI1 and 2... I never played the vanilla versions of those games more than a few hours and only mods made them really fun. However the basic mechanics etc were there and while far from perfect those games were the best strategic level wargames available for a long time.

HoI 3 attempts much more than anything previous and so the mistakes are more apparent in all aspects of the game because there is so much more going on. Still- with mods and hopefully a couple more patches it is likely going to be the best strategic level wargame around for a couple years. Maybe not up to the hopes of many in the anticipation of its release but what other game out there does anything close to HoI3?

There are other fun games, even other fun wargames but its a small niche HoI3 is trying to hit and its hard to say if the failures are due to a lack of competition or not. The obvious answer is until new competition appears if it ever does HoI series will probably be the best for what it tries to do and HoI 3 works 80% with 1.3 patch out. The 20% that doesn't work can be pretty painful and prevent finishing a game but its very close now to being completely playable only 5 months after release.

Software is its own industry. Hard to think of any major IT corporation hasn't made rather large mistakes in software releases... even Apple though they correct the fastest out of the big players. Paradox isn't the best on releases but its far from the worst, just look at some of the crap released this last year and most of it will NEVER be patched to a playable condition. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,701735/The-official-list-Worst-games-of-2009/News/

You want the US Congress to oversee products released by Paradox? I didn't realize Sweden was an American state.

By the way, you do realize they've been offering refunds for this game for quite some time, right? It's not like there's nothing you can do if you're unsatisfied.

P.S. Oh yeah, and companies that release products that don't work won't fly here? Are you serious? Ever bought a toaster? Or anything from Microsoft? Or a pencil sharpener made domestically? Or, well, pretty much anything made in our country?

Unable to finish a game?

I keep seeing this posted by different people and I really want to try and understand what they mean. I bought H0I3 pre-order and have always been able to play a complete game, one past 1948 even with the 1.0 version. I even had fun doing it.

I did run into issues and some weird stuff, but I just ignored it and kept playing and still had fun. I truely do not understand this rage about the product not working, etc. That ANYONE would REALLY expect an absolutely bug free computer game for $50 is just amazing to me. Even board games have 'patches' to them for God's sake.

If you would be willing to pay $20K for a computer game as you would for a car, then I WOULD have the expectation that it better work flawlessly from day one. But for $50, let's be real people.

I got the samn problems too, since HoI III simply not ready yet and im having trouble to choose the right game to keep me settled. So I tried alot of MMOs but not all of them. Most SP/MP games out there arent quite well entertain or lack of players involve, like a community. I like RP/Strategy games, mostly RTS if possible. So my favorite is War in the Pacific:AE but its turn based, no 3D and terrible graphics. I paid over $100 for it, it worth it if they put more professional artist in the game. But cant stand the graphics :(

Im trying out this RP and a week or so i will grab Eve Online, since they take paypal for monthly fees.

Thank for feedback :)

I played Eve Online for a long time. Too long me thinks ;)
It all boils down to the fact that game is boring. Its dull. You "gather" resources to build/buy better space ship that you will loose sooner than later, and it takes alot of boring mining or rat(creep) killing for a decent ship. Quite alot. And then some more. And then loose it in 10 second of fight and you dont even have to see the fight happend due to huge lag that occurs in bigger battles. In the end the game is pure boredom, nice concept, looks nice but borring as hell. The community is also somewhat "poor in quality" :p , alot of room in the game for you to get scammed and generaly f....d.
Talk about Eve doesnt belong here anyway :p

Now comparing WitpAE and Hoi3 is something better, I own both.
I like Hoi3 more than Witp series as it allows far more freedom in play trough research/build/making your own allies and enemies. In witp you cant build units, you play with what you get against a strict foe.
And you cant speed it up, takes forever to play one turn.

When it comes to bugs and patches I can only say that WitpAE after release was basicly unplayable, at least as Japan. I barely played it as Allies.
So it was somewhere the same as Hoi3 when released i think, never played Hoi3 v1.00, i bought it when 1.3 was allready out :D

When it comes to patching I put my hat down to Witp crew. They listen carefuly on forums, and smash bugs as soon as possible. Devs even released "last-minute patch" b4 the holidays to keep gamers "happy" ;)

I like Hoi3, some things need sirius and fast patches, some things need to change imho (supply system would be my first, I would definitly implement something that uses HQ units to draw supplies to provinces where you expect action, should make it impossible to conquer the world using only paras).

Hoi3 has AI that is amazing, comparing it to Witp at least. You can never have AI that is not beatable by humas, human brain simply has "too many tactics" and AI cant be programmed to counter all of them. Computers arent smarter than people, they can just count stuff faster than humas

All in all im patiently waitng for 1.4 patch, but until it comes out I dont see hoi3 v1.3 to be totaly unplayable crap. If it was totaly unplayable then people would be able to type down what is totaly screwd up in one simple sentence and I bet that would be patched up ASAP.

Can any of you type down in the most simplest form without extra hate why you think game is unplayable, like "game is broken coz AI doesnt work at all"?

You want the US Congress to oversee products released by Paradox? I didn't realize Sweden was an American state.
....

I'd really like for the US Congress to take a few years off. We'd all be better if they simply stayed home for awhile. But I'll save my real comments on US Politics for another forum.
