I too think that Paradox has gone way to far from a finished product. With EU 2 it was understandable,EU 3 i had learnt my lesson and bought a full pack with in nomine pre installed. But now I mean i have a hoi2 verision, another Hoi2 plus doomsday and a third with armageddon too. So I've bought 3 versions of the game, and they basically suck after a while.
Victoria is the game i've played the most, so i'll end up buying viccky 2 too. But i have no hopes of receiving value for my money until a mod is released.
It's pathetic really. for 10 years i've been playing and buying paradox games. and it's always the same, without a good modding community they are just not worth the money. I refuse to buy the roman EU 3 since i just know i'll be soo dissappointed. Does jugurtha spend years in rome on the bequest of the senate, does Julia die and therefore the influence on pompey end, causing the 2'nd triumvirate dissulution? Does Marius speak up against marcellus and thereby gain the position against numibia and sulla as his legate? Nah. Probably not.
On behalf of Sweden, i beg forgivness. Things made in sweden are usually good and robust, with quality matching their descriptions. Ikea does make good robust furniture although they have saved in certain parts to make it cheap. That is understandable since it is just that. Cheap.
The only great thing about paradox games are that they don't need the CD inserted to work.
Cheers
Actually, Ikea is a very good example of screwing the customer over and making the customer feel good about it at the same time. (Seriously, if you don't get this statement, please think a little harder)
Strangely, the gaming industry is going down this sad sad route.
I absolutely hate DLC, especially DLC which is launched at the same time as the game. But if you really think about it, this method of selling has been around for ages.
Think about buying a car, and all the nice extras like powered windows, sports rims, upgrades from tape deck to media center, huds, etc, etc all costs extra.
However, if you really really think about it, many of these upgrades actually 'make' the ride.
If you're going to release a DLC, release a DLC that has more meat. Not some horse barding, or a short buggy dungeon so you can increase your storage size.
Pre-ordering a game so you can canter around in a DS9 uniform (picard will facepalm if he ever saw this) or 'obtain the coveted NX prefix (sigh....) or a free 'royal scots brigade' is pathetically sad.
Sad because, customers are so easily suckered.
Marketers believe that customers are actually much smarter than advertisers take them for, hence why messaging in advertising isn't dumbed down. (Which will explain the current slew of incoherent advertising) Marketers are just thinking that customers are really really smart..like psychic smart.
If only they could take a look at the gaming industry...as easy as selling crack to a 9 year old.
