Do you think the game is ok and angry people on this forum are easiy outcrying thankfull ones just unfairly?

The sad thruth is that in most cases YES. Look at Johan's supply thread, people whine about supplies for months now and when finally time comes to show the savegames with bugs to help fix them he gets like two.

When I first bought Hearts of Iron 3 I installed it, then packed the disc and box away in my collection of games. Then I ended up losing it for a time. According to you, that makes me a thief and a pirate and ineligible to offer my insights on the game. I also own a whole bunch of other PI produced games I have not registered, I guess that means I stole them too. Or I am not 'hardcore' enough to have an opinion.

I have no problems with HoI3 now. My aircraft seem to work just fine; they don't win the fight alone like they did in HoI2 but they are excellent at support I'm finding. I tweaked the values of subs and convoys to bring the price point a bit closer. I didn't think the AI set up parallel convoys either, but mine is working just fine.

A++, as the game stands right now I feel almost satisfied with my pre-order price purchase. I'd love some tweaks to the game but they're all expansion fodder and aren't related to core gameplay. Such as showing the softness level of the currently selected division, an easier way to change unit composition and OOB.

Special reasons????? Really to be honest there are no special reasons why you should not register. Still no one forces you to register but I will waste no more time with you. My time is finite and there are so many people I can listen to, those who register the games get priority.

There could be special reasons. His mom may not allowed him to do it for example.

Hey there, have you played eve online? if so how it is?? I was just looking into it and wasnt sure if it will be enjoyable or interesting. Been download Runes of magic (over 5GB) free to play MMO. Since WoW and EQ2 got so lame and i couldnt stand it anymore.
Hi, (sorry for continuing the OT) I've played EVE Online pretty extensively, I only quit when I was laid off and could no longer justify the monthly expense.

I've also played many of the standard MMO's, EQ, EQ2, WoW, and quite a few others. If you've burned out on these games you'll probably agree, there is much more in common between all of these games than there is unique. Even a brand new MMO will only be interesting for a very short time because very quickly those commonalities float to the surface and the game becomes boring again.

Not so EVE! EVE is not a level based game, but a skill based game. It is also a pure PvP game, some people don't like that and don't last long, but if you can wrap your mind around the EVE mindset it is an incredibly deep and very satisfying game.

If you're interested in EVE, you can get a 2 week (I think) demo and not even give a credit card #. If you like it, convert your trial account to a paid account and you're all set.

Something else that is unique about EVE. There has never been a paid expansion. When you d/l the demo, you d/l the latest version of the game with every expansion included. When the next expansion is released (there is an average of 2 per year) it will d/l automatically the first time you login after it is released.

Where did he call you a thief or a pirate?

He just said, if you can't prove that you own the game the legitimate way, then your opinion isn't going to be worth as much.

So, if you REALLY want a dev to listen to you and write back, you should dig up your CD key and register the game.

I'm amazed at the tone some of you have been taking with King.

He's by no means some kind of god, but every answer he has given here has been a volunteer answer. He's not getting paid to do it, he's not even in the marketing department.

To make a long story short, HOI3 is pretty much his baby, and no one wants to be told they have an ugly baby!

And even when they announce that they're giving that baby some plastic surgery and teaching it new things to make it smarter, some of you still come here and trash their efforts.

I understand you feel you got burned, and I truly think he does too.

I know I'm sorry you feel that way, and I want the game to be improved as well.

Just remember, you could have invested that money in another game with no input from its fanbase and little to no chance of free patches to improve that game.

It's not wrong to be mad, but at least try to be polite and constructive while you do it.

If you really did spend the money on the game, then the least you can do is actually try to make the situation better so you can get your money's worth from the product.

First of all, and most importantly, I want to thank King for his responses. I especially liked the more formally-toned responses that did not address any particular individual's behavior. And King has really done Paradox well by staying in this topic for so many pages and continuing to answer response. Bravo!

I saw this topic had the Paradox staff stamp on it and I read the entire thing... and I was not disappointed. It was really nice to get the inside insight. I opened up tabs to specific posts I liked from Kings, maybe in a moment I will chance a response to those.

Unfortunately, we all know that forum's do not moderate themselves, so I support the moderating that also had to go on in this topic, but that's the same as I can find on any other topic ;) I just wish King could spend any little precious vacation time (well, first on vacation! go have fun!) that he spares here more so on this insight rather than admonishing people for their behavior.

[edit: @LoneGunman. I agree that the tone some people take with the Paradox staff is truly frightful! Especially considering the points you mention (him taking his personal time to post here, etc.)]

Secondly, I am an [at present] unregistered user of the game (surprise! oh you already knew that...), and I never expected to be thrown the keys to the forum as such (limited access is fine by me), but I really dislike the disrespect shown to unregistered users without the merit of a "fair trial" so-to-speak. I have no idea who pirates these games; that personally makes me sick. I mean, it even makes me sick that the game has been on sale for like 10 bucks and I bought it for $30, even though I should still feel grateful because some people were paying like 50€ for it. And yes, I get suspicious at some individuals, but I keep my comments to myself.

Really, this forum should be more embracing of new individuals. How can the community grow if potential buyers stop by and are told to stop talking since they haven't registered their game? And again, I own this and EU3:C and I don't want people to mistake a person who is unregistered as a pirate by default. That is unfair.

[edit: @John-SJ and "EVE" off-topic posting. try X3:TC for a non-subscription, EVE-like experience. My favorite game... (see my sig)]

Well, as I said, no one is accusing anyone of being a pirate. Unless you can specifically quote an example that I didn't catch here. :)

That being said, as a potential buyer, you would be free to ask questions about the game, ask other buyers for their opinions to help make a decision, but unless you've actually played the game, the chances of you offering anything insightful to actually improving the game would be extremely limited.

Even most of the responses on the "Your Top 5 Issues" thread offer no explanation as to how to fix certain issues, or even get into the specifics of what those issues are.

Instead, they simply read "better ai! better combat! more events!".

That doesn't do crap for the devs, all it does is clog up a thread that is supposed to help PI brainstorm, with lackluster posts that will detract from the good ideas put forth inside.

I could write a nice-sized essay regarding the merits and faults of the Air and Naval combat portions of HOI3, so it's not hard to actually summarize that with some possible solutions and advice that might actually make it's way into the game.

Or even suggest that the AI be broken down into specific "groups" that can be applied to different nations based upon their starting circumstances. Since I happen to believe that the AI of the UK should look at the war fundamentally different from the AI of Germany.

Both need to fight a different type of war to win, the key is maximizing their benefits without tying their hands behind their back when it comes to alternative methods.

An Example:

If you know that Germany is always going to build a ton of panzers even if it runs out of oil, then you would obviously target Germany's oil and fuel production to cripple the AI.

So the AI needs to take this into account and make sure it maintains a good stockpile of oil. If this stockpile drops or starts to run out, production needs to switch to brigades that don't consume fuel, such as infantry.

If manpower starts to drop as well, then the German AI might consider building militia as a desperate last measure to preserve the Reich!

That is how I want the AI to think. I want it to look at its situation and make a logical decision when it comes to what it can build and maintain versus what it actually needs.

You do realise we are fighting war we cannot win with the patching process? Not matter how much we imporve performance you'll wish it goes just that little bit faster. Not matter how much we improve the AI, you'll all want to be that little bit better. No matter which tweaks we insert into the alignment system, and do have a couple of good ideas there, you'll wish for a little bit more.

King, not all unhappy players are also unresonable. I, for one, will be perfectly able to tell when the game has improved to a point to be fun again, and be satisfied with it. Even then there will be things that I am not happy with, but I will be honest enough to say that the game has reached a good development point and live with it. For the time being I am anxiously waiting for that moment.
By the way thanks a lot for your comments in this thread and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Isn't that a good thing? I mean, we players/community (how do you call us in the office? :)) should set the standard high, we should motivate you to do your best and we should provide you with feedback what kind of a game we want HoI3 to become. Reading through the top5 issues thread by Kallocain, you can easily see what's on people's minds when they play the game, where the direction of the axis of desired changes is set, for example you can notice surrender events in every 2nd post there, there's a reason why it's so often mentioned. Paradox' part of the work, something you did brilliantly for EU3 for example (BBB is gone, ping-pong is gone...), is to look at it all, decide what's possible and what's not, bounce it off your own idea for HoI3, make a ranked HOWTO and start working. :)
Don't judge us harsh for demanding more and more, we're like heroin addicts and we can't control ourselves. We want more product, of better quality and we usually want it right away.

On a sidenote, have you considered posting to the Kallocain's thread? I'd really like to see your (or Johan's, or Doomdark's) top5 issues with HoI3, things that bug you the most when you play it, things you believe should be changed. Would be really good to read.

It's not a bad thing, but there are two types of fixes those that are absolute and those that are relative. Say we have the game crashing when X is happens. We produce a patch and fix the crash. You are always going to be 100% satisfied with this this fix, after all it gives you 100% of what you wanted. Other things like game speed are relative as such we can never ever reach 100% satisfaction here, but what we can do is improve things. You may not be 100% satisfied with the result but you can be happier (I hope), well at least that is the gaol.

Thanks for the feedback here King, it is really appreciated. I do have one question though. I hope you can answer it.

I tried playing the 1943/1944 scenarios (gotterdammerung in hoi2 was my favorite). And the game would slow down really fast even on max speed. While 1.3 did fix pre-war game speed, I still feel that it was really slow while at war.
Can you say anything about this being looked into for 1.4?

We have already done several optimisation for Beta patches and the betas have reported that the game speed has increased. I myself use debug builds which are painfully slow, 1.0 went like lightning for me :). They have also reported crashes as well, which we are looking at. I have so far managed to find a couple, which we are aiming to fix in the New Year.

Did you play this game yourself? Now repeat your words. Do you think the game is ok and angry people on this forum are easiy outcrying thankfull ones just unfairly? This game must not have been released before current 1.3 state. I like innovations you made in grand strategy ganre. But seems to me you are too greedy. This game was at the state of beta when released.

P.S.: anyway i would like to pay more if it will change smth

I did play the game extensively during testing. However you are missing the point of the post. Things like AI imrpovements and game speed are not absolutes. It is not like we will suddenly produce an AI that will have the whole forum going this great. What we are aiming for in the next patch is an AI that performs better and although there may be things about the AI that still annoy you, we hope that you will see an improved AI.

The sad thruth is that in most cases YES. Look at Johan's supply thread, people whine about supplies for months now and when finally time comes to show the savegames with bugs to help fix them he gets like two.

I sent him one too.

There is perfectly good Eve thread in the OT forum, why not head over there?

People come here, people post, and registration is not a requirement. However the person with the unregistered game I took issue with started to imply all sorts of hidden agendas with the patch and things like that. I draw the line at that.

That's not a problem, but I am trying to be honest here and don't want to build up unrealistic expectations for the patch. I believe it will improve the game, I believe it will make it more fun. However what I do not want you all thinking that it will suddenly solve every single niggle you have with game. If I let people think that then I could be having a fantastic time come patch day.

So, if you REALLY want a dev to listen to you and write back, you should dig up your CD key and register the game.

Sorry, but, I totally disagree. What registering does is allow Paradox to have sway over you and your posts and your game support and causes the customer grief on getting support if/when they get banned for whatever reason. I've had three friends already who DID register the game and gave honest opinions of the game get banned. They called them trolls which is pretty easy to generalize a definition of what it is. Anybody who doesn't say nicey nice or gives too much negative feedback is called a troll here by the Moderators and thus issued warnings and bans. So, the smart gamer will never register their game here as if you do and get banned you lose all online support priveledges and that's pretty wrong imho. They force them to use email support afterwards and there is little to no support from that or it is very slow. It's bad enough they release such sloppy product, but, then to ban them from support as well because they are pissed off? lol I really wonder who Paradox think they are?
