  • Hearts of Iron III
Thought id check out the forums again after a few months absence to see whats being said and I notice people are still madly complaining about HOI III and so they should be.

Some of you folks really need to wake up in my opinion!

Ive been playing games like this for a long time now, also ive followed the HOI series from the outset with the original hearts of iron which means in plain terms i grasp the concepts of what paradox have tried to do, and playing all the games in series also means ive been able to observe changes and patterns of development. Couple to that heavy experience with many other games of the same type what that means practically is im not an idiot and understand how they work.

THE FACT IS HEARTS OF IRON 3 IS CRAP.

It amazes me that anyone here defends paradox at all, but maybe the minority folks defending paradox are paid by paradox or maybe their just blind dumb asses?

Some of you just dont get it do you?

Do you really think that just because paradox gives themselves a presence here for player feedback it means a working game is their priority? ofc not!

The only way for you to discover that their game doesnt work, and is not anywhere near working at a satisfactory level for marketing is to buy it right? You cant tell without buying it yes? But after you have bought it they have already got your money right? Now amplify that by the volume of people that have to open their wallets to face dissapointment. Paradox just like other game companies are making huge amounts of money, after their bank account is fat with your pennies offering themselves up for player feedback is just a veneer to apear noble to the masses.

Its no good people posting replies trying to make me or anyone else out to be an idiot. We all tolerate a certain amount of bugs and problems, I know all abut the pain of that I cut my teeth all those years ago modding Elder Scrolls Morrowind and learned just how painful it can be if your not careful, ive modded games since then.

The fact is HOI 3 didnt even come close to working at a basic level, forget fancy stuff, they couldnt even get the basics right...

Now consider this: This was not their first game in the series, but was the third in the series, the third game for all intents and purposes the same as the previous, so even with bugs and imperfections they should have had it pretty down, but from what I read here and my own expereinces they haven't.

Get used to it folks, theres a new concept in game making that game companies have now discovered and that is they can get away with making and selling games not ready for the market.

Think about it. I hear it all across the board and your going to see that behaviour more and more, more and more games getting released that are not ready for release and why? because its not about you or the game its about money! MONEY is all they care about, its a business. And the software companies know they can get away with it, youll still buy the games and youll complain when they dont work properly, but what can you actually do about it hmnn? What can you do about the vast sums of money in their bank account, theyve already got your cash.

Only fools think the games companies are somehow noble patching stuff for your plerasure, fact is its written into game legality, they wouldnt have customers for long if they didnt make patches.

I have loved the HOI series for a long time but when i started playing III i finally saw with clarity exactly how far games companies are willing to go to treat me like an idiot, because releasing HOI III as it was was tantamount to insulting me in my opinion.

And I also love Fallout 3 but i have it off the record from one of bethesdas team that they knew f3 wasnt ready for release but released it anyway because the volume of money they would be making would far outweigh the clamour of dissapointed fans.

So before you judge me as harsh consider what ive said and steel yourself and get used to a rapidly declining quality in games that will be released in the future. Game quality will fall until it hits a minimum horizon line that they can get away with, and i dont know about anyone lese but i dont like to be treated like a fool.

to quote another forum writer here "...my time with paradox is over..." As much as i have enjoyed the HOI games in the past, theyve now lost my custom, in my opinion at least HOI II had the semblance of something that worked, its problems were tolerable, HOI III was just a joke.

and before people start replying with whining posts about paradox being treated unfairly, this is what they do for a living, there isnt one of them there are many, and they have had 2 of the sdame games previously to work from.

There are no excuses for the pathetic example of a game that was HOI III.

And for those slow witted minds out there join the dots and look at other games across the board, think about the last say 10 years of games, and youll soon see a pattern emerging, a pattern of rapidly declining quality, not accidental but deliberate.

not my loss its paradox's loss, thats one les income theyll have from me.

(sorry: eve online reference)

But seriously. It wasn't as bad as Diplomacy. And if you have been following EU3. The game really wasn't good til about NA expansion. (if you don't count the Magni Mundi mod)

Some say HTTT is where EU3 should have been... And what was that... 3 or 4 years since release?

I agree with OP, to a large extent. Quality of games is declining.

But Paradox, to their credit, has always brought their games up to snuff by the end. Even if it does take an expansion or two (yuck yuck, not fair but thats business). I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt by now. If it still sucks when all is said and patched, my opinion will change.

Can you at least give me the name of a recent ww2game as good as this one?
Me I don't know any! I've been looking for a game like this for a very long time and I'm glad I finally found one.
Before that game there was only one other ww2 startegic game that I found fun to play and it wasn't even a game it was a mod for Civilization IV.
You should all stop complaining and be happy that there are still companies that comes up with great WW2 games!
Name me just one great ww2 stategic game that came out in 2009 that is better than this one. I bet you won't be able to.

Best WWII games prob comes from Matrix and some of them are expensive, esp the collection edition. I have War in the Pacific: Admiral Edition and its very long game. If you want realism and all the possibilities, try it plus there alot of other WWII games on the market.

I like it but I have a thing for number crunching and tedium (spread sheets in space) EVE has the world's meanest learning curve and the PvP is unforgiving. So you'd better have thick skin. (hence the phrase in response to two page of someone ranting about a bug or ship loss with a simple "u mad?")

But I dunno... If you like Paradox games, then you'd probably like number crunching and have a thick skin.

I bet after the first expansion, everyone will be liking HoI3 again.

Personally I have stopped playing HoI3 because 1.3 still doesn't do it for me AI wise even on hard and I've really taken a liking to HTTT that I actually played a game almost in one sitting.

I got the samn problems too, since HoI III simply not ready yet and im having trouble to choose the right game to keep me settled. So I tried alot of MMOs but not all of them. Most SP/MP games out there arent quite well entertain or lack of players involve, like a community. I like RP/Strategy games, mostly RTS if possible. So my favorite is War in the Pacific:AE but its turn based, no 3D and terrible graphics. I paid over $100 for it, it worth it if they put more professional artist in the game. But cant stand the graphics :(

Im trying out this RP and a week or so i will grab Eve Online, since they take paypal for monthly fees.

Thank for feedback :)

I can sympathize with the OP on the basis that the game's quality probably isn't up to that of a console release, and really the computer game industry is to blame for this at large because of the luxury of the 'patch'. I'd be pretty pissed if Gears of War 2 began to slow down and get choppy after the first couple of levels like this game tends to do after 1940. Shame on Paradox, you guys should have done better.

That said, they are working towards a better HoI3, and getting pissy isn't going to really help things. Of course, neither do the Paradox apologists who claim 'EU3 wasn't better until two expansions and a dozen patches after release and now look at it!'

I say that's all well and good but I'd rather Paradox hold a game for an extra six months and release it so it runs relatively smoothly with few bugs rather than their current business model. I personally know two people who pirate, yes pirate illegally Paradox games because they don't think Paradox deserves their money for a product that only gains its quality a year after release. I don't ascribe to that, but it's food for thought - that's probably a hundred dollars Paradox is out, if not more. And I'm sure there are thousands more like them.

And I was actually thinking of buying HOI3+DLC on Steam today with the sale today...

I have tried the demo and I was disappointed.

Back to HOI2 I guess, at least it works on my old lappy!

Well. He's probably a very young person. Doesn't remember when games were black and white and there were no patches whatsoever. Just sequels.
