While you are waiting for the release like me you might want to check-out a similar PBEM game called Europe 1483 by Guild of Blades. They are in the middle of playtesting the 16 player version and are about to Beta test the 44 player Europe, Asia, and Africa 1483. More info at the following URL: Guild of Blades Interactive

WARNING: This is a small company and their website has a lot of broken links.

Looks very nice. Most of the provinces, from what I saw are actually quite accurate. Glad Poland is in there as a major <G>. Eh Johan? :)

As long as you're bored, waiting for the game, read some of the aar's eh ... take a look at the pix in the aar section .. easy your pain, old boy!

Hmm, looks like a promising game. However, the province borders and names in Scandinavia are (as usual) quite ludicrous. In all fairness though, EU is probably the only grand strategy game I've seen that has got them right. ;)

'Cossacks' is certainly very pretty and, despite the identical period has gone for a very different approach (battles rather than grand-strategy it seems). EU may be more original, but its hard to tell.
Thanks for the link Raphael. :)

Raphael -
I agree with Matthew, It looks like Cossacks is similar to like Age of Kings (but obviously a few centuries later). However, I didn't see how to get a hold of the game and got the sense that it's still being developed. Do you know when its supposed to be released or any other details like these?

Also, how did you come across the game in the first place?

I've been waiting for Cossacks, for over 6 months now.. They update their website even less than Paradox, if thats possible :)

The game is supposed to be released Q4 2000 I think. The game sounds very good on paper, and the screenshots are great, apparently 8,000 units (i.e. armies) can be displayed on screen without any slowdown on relatively decent sized computers. Plus they have countries which aren't only the 'popular' ones.

A combination of Cossacks and EU in one game would have me melting from delight though..

Hello all

For 'Cossacks' or 'European Wars', I've found it on the following adress :
http://www.gamesdomain.co.uk/gdr.cgi?preview.html

at section 'target range'.

This site 'gamesdomain' is, following what I've seen until now, one of the best site for strategy games. EU is in their list, and many other very interestings games to be released. And theses games, like EU, bear rarely a reference number. Also they give interesting informations.

Instead of Age of Empire, I would probably compare 'European wars' to 'Shogun' (but I have never played Shogun, so I'm not sure). I suppose that there is a very interesting battle structure with a powerful motor, but the strategy is of course less interesting than EU. In military matters, it's really an impressive game, as you can see with all the unit types.

Bye.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to add a link to Gamesdomain. Maybe I'll get lucky and be chosen to be a beta tester for European Wars.

Also - I saw that Frog City, the developers of the 'Imperialism' series of games is currently developing two new titles. One is called 'Pantheon,' and is a city builder set in Ancient Greece with the added feature the player assuming the identity of a mythological god (Zeus, Apollo, etc). This premise doesn't do much for me, but if anyone else is interested the site is www.frogcity.com. They've also gotten previewed in most of the big US game sites (pc.ign.com; gamespot.com, etc.).

The other game hasn't received as much publicity... It's more of an economic game in the vein of RRT2 and called 'Silk Road.' I happened to send an unsolicited e-mail to the president of Frog City with some publicity ideas and they promised to add me to their beta tester list. I was pretty enthusiastic about Silk Road because I really get into the economic games. If anyone has any value-added ideas for our friends at Frog City, e-mail me and I'll be glad to give you the address of their president if you want to try to get on their beta tester list also.
