It's a joke name for a semi-minor nation which most players will rarely if ever see unless they are specifically going for a fascist playthrough of that nation. It's a fucking joke in a video game.

A joke is something that doesn't break immersion, and makes you chuckle a bit. This is not a joke. If it doesn't offend anyone and people think it's funny, we should rename the actual country of Australia to "The Empire of the Platypus". That way, people will be happy!

In all seriousness, why is there support for this? I can just see in Europa Universalis V:
France -> Baguette
England -> Crocodile Kingdom (because why not)
Ottoman Empire -> Kebab
etc...


Either way, the developers probably forgot to remove a joke or a placeholder name. I doubt they would just forsake the seriousness of all of their other games for this.

It's idiotic game design to implement 'features' that nobody wants that will surely upset some portion of your playerbase.

Now that it's here I want it to stay. I never knew I wanted fascist Australia to be named "the Empire of the Platypus" before. I say this as a 25-year-old American mechanical engineer who has often critiqued Paradox's design decisions (corruption in EU4 and the Umayyad piranha vassals in CK2 for example).

Meanwhile I really wish I could recommend this game to friends and colleagues that have not tried any grand strategy games from Paradox before but are interested in WW2 setting so we can multiplayer it up. With these joke names though they are not going to take it seriously and will dismiss it. I can fix these oversights with mods but it isn't going to help boost sales.

It boggles the mind why you would make a history game where the objective is to either 1. be democratic, sit on your hands and wait for fascists/communists to begin wars so you can intervene or 2. be fascist, able to declare war freely and actually have a purpose other than sitting on your hands but get given a clown name for your nation because... fascism isn't cool mmmkay?

Australia turning Fascist is something that could have conceivably happened in history, especially if the Japanese had been more successful and formed a puppet state out of it.

No Fascist government would have even considered the name "Empire of the Platypus," though.

I think it's really funny personally but I can understand why people might be upset if they want a more verisimilitudinous experience. Hopefully they will bring it up in the cast, cause does seem like a placeholder till can get a real name in, at lest to me.

While it was not just this single issue with the game, it certainly was a contributing factor to me not buying it at all. Paradox are certainly free to develop a game however they want, but choosing to release the game like this tells me their design philosophy has diverged from what I want in this type of game.

Especially after I pre-ordered Stellaris, and have been consistently disappointed in it.

I think the easiest way to fix this problem for both sides is just give the ability to rename countries whatever you want, as well as having the ability randomize with a bunch of generic fascist names.

That ability is already there, just edit a text file.

In fact, it could have been done in shorter time than the OP spent composing the first post, which is why all the epic crying is so funny.

This basically means that even if you gain independence and become truly India, you're still considered "British Indian." Then again, I don't think Paradox set it up for India proper to actually ever become truly independent. Graphical DLC and a patch for India may be in the works.
