You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means.professionalism.
Prior to HOI IV, HOI has always been about "what if's". But the what if's have been plausible, believable, scenarios that could have occurred if that had happened instead of this, this instead of that. Variations occurred alternating from actual events, yes, but as much as possible they were always based on reality, on real possibilities.Really? No respect for history? Tell me what was the historical name for the facist state of Australia circa 1939 again? Complaining about a lack of historical respect in a fictional context hardly makes sense now...
Crass, if you read the thread properly you will see that many of us do have a problem with it. Including me.Huh? so there is not a single soul that has a problem with Australia called Empire of the platypus if they go facist in this game?
Ok I can sort of buy into the argument that it breaks immersions for some players but that is as far as I can have any understanding of all this critique.
Some of the arguments and rambling and wierd comparisions to other things is borderline insanity.
Edit: New Zealand is called "Kiwi Empire/Republic" as well. Seems like Paradox just view our two nations as a geography joke, or a far away fantasy land or something from the Simpsons, not actual places with history where people live.

With that in mind In what version of world war two would a Fascist Regime (so, oppressive, dictatorial, abusive, not renowned for their sense of humour), EVER call themselves "The Empire of the Platypus?" Be honest now.
I can't believe that there are actually people on this forum who are defending this, especially when so many people flipped their shit over Sunset Invasion.
Actually, I blame CK2 for this. Because CK2 gradually pandered more and more to ahistorical play and (bad) comedy, it seems to have become an accepted and even expected part of Paradox games.
I don't want it. Dynamic names should only exist where they are needed. Obviously, a non-Communist Soviet Union would not be called the Soviet Union. A Communist United Kingdom would not be the United Kingdom.
There's no need for a unique name for every government of every nation, though, and some of these names are so ridiculous that they feel like a slap in the face.
Inconceivable! You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means.
You're right I didn't think about that. The only way i can think of reasonably to please the immersion side is that the platypus name can never be used by the AI. But rather it uses just generic names from the list. while a human player going through randomize list and can get the platypus name as a possible choice as a little Easter egg? I know the platypus side might not like it but its a compromiseThat wouldn't fix the 0,1% (figurative statistics, mind you) possibility that AI pulls it off.
"To all the people saying you don't mind the stupid name, no one really cares." All of us who aren't bawling our eyes out can say the same thing. To all the people saying you don't mind the stupid name, no one really cares. It's idiotic game design to implement 'features' that nobody wants that will surely upset some portion of your playerbase. There is no trade-off in this scenario - no one would be upset if Australia and NZ had logical names, but some people are surely going to be pissed off if they have joke names.
This isn't the only example either. Rosa Luxemburg? The Shogunate of Japan? Utterly ridiculous.
