Paratroopers imprisoned in transports

1.05c, Germany, 30. July 1942

Just puppeted Greece after taking the VP provinces with marines and paras. Then I moved the transport planes in, loaded the paras on them, and moved all to Salzburg to let them wait for org regain. The planes have a button that marks that paratroopers are aboard and that I have to click it to unload them, but it is greyed out. That has nothing to do with a paradrop. The troops should just leave the transports. I can't believe that this is impossible, nor that they really would stay in the transports for some days. The transports are not at maximum org but they can't need it for opening the doors. Even if I wait for the org regain, what would happen if I unload the paras? Would the transporters loose all org again, for just standing around and doing nothing? And will the paras loose org and even strength in the transports?

You got it. Unfortunately you can't currently use your transports to transport troops. If you wait until the planes get up to their maximum org, you will be able to de-plane your poor paratroops that have been forced to subsist on airline food for several days. No wonder their combat strength is down!

Not to mention that the hot meals must be getting pretty cold after a month...

Anyway, just pla<n ahead: place the transporter and para nearby the province where you want to drop. They have great range anyway so they should be able to start in a safe location. Do that app. 1 month before you plan to drop. Load your paras only just before you want them dropped.

I know, exactly that I intended. The point is, that the transporters loose always much org, when you place them in a province. But then they are idiotically not releasing the paratroopers for absolutely no reason beside for acting paradox. You are not even allowed to press this damned button. It is there, you only need to click it, but nothing happens. You have to let the transports senselessly stand around with the paradroopers within them and wait, until they are on full org, though that is absolutely not needed. The paratroopers loose org and strength while they are in the transports. Only than you can unload them. Then the transports are at full org, but the paratroopers have lost org and strength, and you have to restrengthen them and to wait until the paratroopers also regain their org. Also this costs supplies and manpower for no reason. You can't avoid that with planning ahead. This feature is what had been implemented without planning.

You seem to have figured it out now. You can now plan ahead for this. So this is not a bug but something that is hard to figure out without trying it first. Perhaps other people can also benefit from your description of the air transportation process.

In HOI it now takes a while to set up and execute a paradrop mission. You should move your paratroopers around without using paradrop missions (which is historically what happened). It then takes a while to set up a paradrop mission (which is historically what happened). This perhaps needs a better explanation of the process (which you have provided) but it seems to be a good way to handle paradrop missions in the game.

No, I have figured it out before, not just now. This was a complaint about a false implementation, that has unlogical results, bug or wad. You are just taking my post with irony. I know now, that I have to move paras without planes. But you can't tell me that realistically paras within planes that just stand around on an airfield, can't unload, or even that they can't get supply and starve. But if you want to carry out a paradrop mission, you can load them within an hour. I preparation for a paradrop mission might take time. OK, I can easily believe that, but then this feature should have been the other way around. Don't tell that this happened historically this way when it did not. I am still convinced that this is implemented in the wrong way.

I had finally figured out on my own how to load and unload paratroopers, and it was confirmed reading this and other threads.

However, I don't understand how you carry out Paradrop missions. Are you actually able to use your paratroopers to drop behind enemy lines or in vacant territory? I can't figure out how to do this.

Help. Please!

Thanks,

CK

p.s. Sorry. In doing the search, I didn't realize this was in the bug reporting forum. I would have asked in the General Discussion forum.

WAD. waiting for full org after a transfer might sound a bit silly, but this system stopped the various exploits and works all in all fine. therefore there is no need for a change.

for executing paradrops, wait for full org, then order them to paradrop by selecting the mission from the box that appears by ctrl-right-clicking on the target province.
