US parties

I'm currently in 1875 playing as the US.
The Republicans won the election in 1860- I quickly won the following ACW and the Republican Party and Dem Party formed. But now, (1875 as mentioned) the Republicans still rule with 85 % of the vote and both the Rep Party and Democratic Party has some 3-4 % of the votes. Shouldn't the party "Republicans" disappear and let the new republican party take over?
The Democrats have vanished, and that's why I think the Republicans should too! Is this because they are still in power or is it a bug?

I've almost never seen a shift of power in the two party system US. Even if I let everybody vote, I still can't get a party in power that's not lassez-faire and militarist.

also every single party is marked as conservative

I still dunno how the political system works, but i managed to get the free soil party elected once.

All i did was focused on one path...never deviating through the events.

dunno if this helps.

I too managed to get them elected. In the 1840's, after giving universal suffrage.
