Wacky English!

So, I started in 1066 as William the Conqueror, and conquer I did, as by his death William reigned in England, France and Aquitaine.

Oddly, 4 generations later, my king gave his son some land in England... which made the guy flip to English in a heartbeat, to my chagrin, as the kingdoms of Aquitaine (my primary), France and Bavaria form a much larger part of my kingdom than England.

Is there a way to avoid this without modding, or is this exactly how the superspecial case of England is supposed to be treated? I had hoped the culture change events would only trigger upon England being a primary kingdom title, seeing as my capital never left Rouen and all...

Well you gave him land in England, so HIS capital was in England, right?
If his capital has English culture, then he can get the event to become English, and could very well accept.

As Tuareg said, it's sometimes better under the circumstances to change to your province's culture and avoid revolt rather than sticking to your family roots.

Doesn't really apply to some kings and pretty much every emperor though.

could be that your son got the generic event where he can convert to his capital province's culture, in which case the english events have nothing to do with it

It could be, but SOMEONE must have had the event despite their king being in Rouen all the time (though, for at most 4 years, England was my primary title; that is, Venice's duchy leaving Italy is 4 years ahead of Flanders joining Aquitaine).

Oh well... next time I should just give him an Occitan province or so... that, at least, is still in the same culture group.

Once, I gave some random guy in my court who didn't hate me the duchy of Barcelona. I go back and look at him, and he is English cultured. I checked England, and everyone was still Saxon.
