you have CK2, and i assume that runs okay, stellaris uses the same engine as CK2 and EU4 and maybe Vic2? so hopefully it should run fine

Vic2 uses the previous version of same engine. I have no idea how big the differences are though.

Keep in mind, that Stellaris probably needs more performance than CK II or EU IV. Using the same engine doesn't mean much.

1024 VRAM really isn't much these days, might be time for an upgrade if you still have less.

If you're looking to get a new graphics card, I'd recommend waiting a few months. Both Nvidia and AMD are very likely to release a new generation of GPUs this summer and it seems like it will be a significant jump in performance.

Well, of course this won't help you if you want to play Stellaris on launch day. :/
This is a very inopportune time to have graphics card issues.

My video card has 1012 MB VRAM and my processor is an Intel Core i3 with a speed of 3.20 GHz and my RAM is 6GB do you think I will have any problems running it? I can also run Skyrim with the High Resolution Texture pack just fine on the highest settings. Thanks for any help you can give.
Edit: My video card is an AMD Radeon HD 5700 series.

So don't take my word for law, but I have gotten EUIV and CKII to run on a laptop with similar specs before (I think it was slightly better CPU, slightly worse graphics, but pretty close). Both were on absolute minimal graphics settings, but definitely playable. (Well, CKII was pretty much restricted to the slowest speed or two, which would drive me crazy, but I wasn't the one playing it). Stellaris is probably more graphics intensive than those, but I'm really hoping that with less AI nations (and without the thousands of people in CKII) it won't be quite as resource intensive as them otherwise. Even if you're below recommended specs it may still be doable, but no promises. Worth a shot at least.

Impossible to say as none of us have access to it yet. All we know is that the official minimum is set at 1024MB VRAM. We have know idea how arbitrarily that was set or for that matter how your opinion of minimum acceptable performance compares to the one Paradox has.

At a guess (educated, but still a guess) yes. Your CPU seems sufficient, and the GPU looks like it'll be 'good enough'. As others mention if you buy off steam you can return it as long as you have less than 2hrs played, so definitely test it and see.

@cole98
Just realized you say 512 MB DVRAM and had a closer look at your specs. That is only 512MB of Dedicated VRAM but the GPU in that APU has access to the regular RAM as well, probably not as fast as the dedicated VRAM but it's available to some degree. With that I'd worry more about the CPU which is only a dual core while the listed minimum and recommended are all quad cores.

CK2 is pretty much ALL about the character events (which hog the CPU) and not that much about the graphics at all.

If you minimise the stuff that the engine needs to track, it should help a lot. You may need to play smaller galaxies with fewer empires on your laptop... the minimum specs pretty much have to cater for those playing larger games and also be fairly conservative, or Paradox risks a lot of bad press. Wheras "I was surprised to find my under spec machine handled the game quite well" generates positive community feeling ;)

My gut feeling is that you should be able to manage fine using a small game.

The way VRAM mostly works (and hasnt been pointed out so far) is that mostly textures use lots of vram. Its no question of engine (of cause it is, but you can blow 8Gigs of VRAM with almost every modern engine). You can use 10 year old engines and load a thousand 100mp textures into the card and it will take a lot of VRAM...

So: Just try it out on the lowest settings, if it runs, try to increase all other effects but the texture resolution, almost everything else wont take lot more VRAM but processing power from the gpu.

There are also some monitoring programms (i prefer HWInfo32/64) where you get detailed info where your gpu is running. If the VRAM is full, the 512MB of yours is the bottleneck. If the VRAM isnt nearly full, but your GPU runs on 100%, its the GPU.

You could also look into the bios/uefi and dedicate more RAM to the GPU.
