Hello ,

i have an issue with those , no idea if it is a bug or not , here is what happens:

i have made a dreadnaught fleet and engaged their mothership in a system in which it resides , i have killed the mothership fairly easy , but after that 2 invisible ships tha ti could only see on the tactical overlay came in and destroyed 2 of my ships instantly.... Combat ended and next turn i was in the same system again where again von neuman mothership appeared and i killed it agian and again i lost 2 ships instantly......

how do you fight/defeat those if any way at all ?

Typically VN's have the mothership and two "Collectors" (they are VERY small). You can't see them unless you zoom in (though they should show as diamonds till you zoom in close enough and they are in visual range...).

There used to be a bug where some VN's would contineously spawn on your systems, think they killed that one though. This sounds like they were at an existing system though, so there may be more then one in system. In the system does it show them in fleets tab? Also in the beginning of combat if you expand their info (fleet info) how many VN's does it show?

Btw, to deal with the "collectors" best way is to stay away from them and hit them from range. Their tractor/hold beam and disintegrator is a pain to deal with (btw, the long range AP/guass cannons do well vs VN's.) Hope that helps.

Ummm...two things to try.

1. Leave it alone for a bit (let the VN collect it's data and move on). ;)
2. Try to take out the collectors first (draw them off) and then take out the mothership. (though in SotS prime it was a good idea to just take out the collectors and leave mama alone, she'll go away eventually).

Could be a remnant bug from before, if neither of these work, report in bug section. :)

Be sure to include your saved game file, and the error logs if you can. ;) Don't have a previous save prior to your war declaration? In the early days of SoTS2, I used to have two saves that I "alternated" with every 10 or so turn. lol But now I often forget for long stretches (40-50 turns lol) and use the continue feature on occation. Sorry it didn't work out for you. What race were you playing?

i have many saves just because of that :)

don't trust the game yet .... either way i have explored it and it crashes only if i declare war to the AI with which i have shared systems(etc. we both have colonies in the system and i have starbases in there as well for possible defense)...

it appears the starbases isse is not solved yet and if you try to have combat in a system with a starbase u crash insta.

well after lurking a bit more , i can say u cannot do combat with the AI at all....i crash everywhere after declaring war and trying invasion missions or simply idling in my space for the ai to attack me....

Hmmm...I've fought in systems with starbases, no crash. :/ I've also declared war on the AI (in my near 400 turn game) and not crashed there either. Trying to remember if I have any mixed systems. I may not I tend to shot at their stuff often. lol I had/have several treaties as well. To bad, but game plays quick, but if you want to wait I understand. It shouldn't be to much longer for those with less patience. :)

I do tend to stick to basic weapons (missiles, guass, and lasers, heavy lasers etc). I often think some of the crashes I've had later in games is when the AI gets the other weapon types and uses them (very ineffectively). Faced plenty of the npc encounters since last patch/hotfix as well and so far no crashes from them either.

Thanks, I've tried leaving it alone, it is in a system where I have a colony and now a base (built after about 25 attacks). If I have no ships, the VN just sits there and I fire planet misses at it, but it never moves and the collectors do not approach. I can't stop the planet from shooting at it of course. Sometimes one of them dies to the missiles. It never goes away if I leave it. If I bring in ships, I can sometimes kill the mothership, and all the collectors, and then combat ends like that was it, but it is back the next turn. I must have killed them all 15 times. So I'd say that it is some kind of bug, and now I've quit that game.

Had the same issue on one of my games with this as well.....Colony I had in system...the Neuman arrived on a turn and would every turn attack me. They wiped out my colonisation fleet first....then I put an attack fleet there and they munched them as well....after that I just left them alone and would keep attacking even though there was nothing there to attack or at least they did not attack the planet.....so I would have to wait through the attack each turn with a draw and no losses - was annoying.
